Off Topic / Lyrics in Music
« on: February 03, 2012, 04:12:35 PM »
One thing that has been burning on my mind the last couple of days is the use of lyrics in the majority of modern mainstream songs. They are useless, and degrade the value of the music greatly. Don't get me wrong, the human voice is an excellent instrument and very multidimensional, but putting words to it restricts it. One of the excuses I've heard from my classmates is that lyrics can tell a 'story', unlike purely instrumental music. Completely false.  A good composition can tell a story all its own, and the experience will be unique and a positively different, personal journey for everyone. In most cases, lyrics are just repeated incessantly throughout the song. While a theme is great for a piece, repeating it over and over with the same drum rhythm and everything, save different words, is not variance, is not exciting, and is completely predictable. It doesn't emotionally unlock like an instrumental piece can. It would be tolerable if it was confined to only genres like party music and rap, but completely dominating the market is annoying. Even classical pieces with choirs that sing lyrics are not as appealing. Rap is interesting to me for its rhythm, not content. But my friends continue to be dogmatic to the music they have been spoon-fed by television and radio without broadening and finding music that they like. These are my opinions. Most people may not have a problem with it, but I dislike it. I don't have anything against people who enjoy these kinds of songs, every man to his own opinion. Does anyone else feel this way, though?

Also, Kill All just reminded me. All the time now, people are building the song on the lyrics. They completely slack off on everything else and push them in your face, hoping to cover up everything else. It's like making a cake with mostly sugar and a few other things stuck on. It becomes thin and obnoxious, tailored just to make money. Creativity and innovation is throw out completely.

Off Topic / RED SOLO CUP
« on: December 31, 2011, 06:44:11 PM »
Now a red solo cup is the best receptacle
For barbecues tailgates fairs and festivals
And you sir do not have a pair of testicles
If you prefer drinking from glass

A red solo cup is cheap and disposable
And in 14 years they are decomposable
And unlike my home they are not foreclosable
Freddie-Mac can kiss my ass woo

Red solo cup I fill you up
Lets have a party lets have a party
I love you red solo cup I lift you up
Proceed to party proceed to party

Now I really love how you're easy to stack
But I really hate how you're easy to crack
Cuz when beer runs down the front of my back
Well that my friends is quite yucky

But I have to admit the ladies get smitten
Admiring how sharply my first name is written
On you with a sharpie when I get to hittin'
on them to help me get lucky

Red solo cup I fill you up
Lets have a party lets have a party
I love you red solo cup I lift you up
Proceed to party proceed to party

Now I've seen you in blue and I've seen you in yellow
But only you in red will do for this fellow
Cuz you are my Abbot to my Costello
And you are the fruit to my loom

Red solo cup your more than just plastic
You're more than amazing you're more than fantastic
And believe me when i'm not the least bit sarcastic
when i look at you and say:

Red solo cup, your not just a cup. You're my, you're my friend. (life long) Thank you, for being my friend.

Red solo cup I fill you up
Lets have a party lets have a party
I love you red solo cup I lift you up
Proceed to party proceed to party

Modification Help / Mario Kart Maps Project

I will be recreating many SNES and GBA racetracks and battle courses, and possibly an N64 one or two. They will be adjusted to fit Blockland better, with refinements like raising the walls and adding finish banners to the SNES courses.

Ghost Valley 1 (Boos to be added soon)

Battle Course 4 (temporary block texture)

Mapping Help / Static Shapes in Interiors not showing up in-game
« on: December 27, 2011, 01:01:58 PM »
In one of my interiors, I had a few static shapes in constructor. In-game, they're not there. Also, from a distance some green couches get all messed up with their colors.

Those are blue and black lines on the couches. IN the white thing on the table, a .dts plant is supposed to be there the windows are supposed to have .dts glass. I did not import them as reference shapes, but static meshes.

    Anagaea: An Era of Empires
Basically like any other Nation RP but in an ancient era.

    The World of Anagaea

    Empires:

    Rules:
      General:
      • No guns or modern technology, we're going by around 500 B.C. technology for everything.
      • No finding stuff in meteors.
      • No magic, this is somewhat realistic.
      • No asking for a stupid amount of land.
      • No general stupidity.
      • PM me before you start wars

Anything else is pretty much fair game unless it gets out of hand/clearly is not acceptable by common sense.

      Empire Rules:
      • No having really stupid and handicapped named like "SUPERGUNNATION" or "MINECRAFTLAND". Be creative.
      • No basing your empire off of a real one from history.
      • No basing your empire off one from a game.
      • Please have a decent flag, it doesn't matter if you use a modern nation's one but do not use MSPaint.

      Make an Empire:

Code: [Select]
      Empire:

      Flag:

      Government Type:

      Empire Type (Economic, Militant) :

Economy type (Market, Command, Mixed, Traditional) :

      Ally(s) :

Population (Max out at 5,000,000) :

      Capital:

      National Anthem**:

      Languages:
      **not required

Here are the political boundary maps. Pick your spot if you're making an empire.

Off Topic / What should I play?
      « on: December 07, 2011, 05:54:29 PM »
I play the cello. Disregard that for a moment and suggest me a non-classical song to play, something well known. Suggest your favorite song or whatever, I just need something cool to play, be it rock, pop etc.

Many times when I join a server, recently, I will be playing for a while, up to about an hour or two, and then I disconnect with this error.

Sometimes I'll be there for about a minute and it will do this. It's quite annoying at times. Any fix?
