Off Topic / Trying to access this old hard drive
« on: April 20, 2010, 08:47:27 PM »
So, my laptop died and I got a desktop. Then I opened it and took it out, carefully. Very carefully. I made sure I didn't generate any static shocks off it and put it in one of those red plastic bags to avoid producing any static. I ordered a sata to esata cable, hooked the hard drive up to my desktop, and now I don't know how to access it.

Help me. ):

Games / Get Lost (new topic, yeah yeah)
« on: November 02, 2009, 02:33:46 PM »
Old topic died, so I started a new one.

Get Lost is a strange point and click flash game, where you can play as a human or a piglet. No joke.

http://www.e4.com/game/get-lost/play.e4

The game kills you a lot in many ridicules ways, and starting out the game looks a lot bigger than it really is. From the start you can pick from three of your own objectives, but it all comes down to this: Get four eggs, three bugs, a red key and do something with them.

It can take a LONG time to figure out how to beat this game, so for you people out there who don't feel like figuring the whole game out on your own, I have made a convenient video walk through:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RZn_wkpPJho

There is also a written text version that will be hosted on the internet... later.

Discuss the game, progress, ect.

Games / Cursor*10
« on: September 13, 2009, 01:48:00 PM »
Fun little flash game where you must cooperate with yourself.

http://www.onemorelevel.com/game/cursor10

Basically, you must find the staircase on every floor to move up a floor. With each life, you get a brief amount of time to make whatever progress you can, and then you must start from the beginning with a new cursor. But the second time, there will be another cursor there reenacting your previous movements. And it goes on and on, until you've used ten cursors, in which case you lose.

The goal is to reach the 16th floor.

Help / Console error: Function should not be used in LAN game?
« on: July 30, 2009, 06:58:45 PM »
I was working on my CTF the other day in a single player game, and I created a manhole cover brick (from JVS doors pack 2) and I changed the events around so it would open when the player touched it and not when they clicked on it. It worked perfectly fine, but every time I used it I got an error in the console that said "function should not be used in LAN game" (it said a bunch of other stuff to, but this is what it said at the end).

This isn't really a problem seeing how the manhole still works just fine, but I would like to know why this showing up in my console.

Music / hl2 Radio sound
« on: July 24, 2009, 12:08:56 AM »
In the popular Valve game Half Life 2 (or hl2) there is a mysterious character called Gman. You keep seeing him in the strangest places just staring at you. You begin to get used to it until you pass by a broken television cast aside in a closet. It's not plugged into any power source but it's on. You can see Gman on the screen, just... starring at you. It starts to play this sound...

This was originally meant for use with the "playsound" event and was available on the RTB mod manager. However, it was failed because it was to long for this purpose. I meant to convert it to an ogg and re-upload it, but it turns out there is no more music on the mod manager.

Quote
I removed music because logistically it's a pain to make exception handling in all the RTB code for a different format of add-on (music files). But also because I noticed people saw music as an easy way to contribute without making an effort so they'd just upload huge "loops" of music and then act like they'd done their bit for the community. I think the Blockland Music forum serves as a more appropriate place to find music loops.

Instead, I decided to post it here. You can listen to it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tFeK9PwgjtI&feature=related

Add-Ons / Half Life 2 radio sound

HL2 radio sound
When you hear it, you'll stuff bricks!

Description
The creepy HL2 radio sound that plays on a broken television set while displaying the man who stalks you throughout the game... Gman. This is intended for use with the play sound event, and does not work with music bricks, which it is not meant for. In case you've never heard this sound, I mean this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tFeK9PwgjtI

Credits:
Made and packaged by Dr.Block, special thanks to Valve for the sound itself, and to rollinroll for the video above.

Download
Sound_hl2radio.zip (Last Updated: 1)

Installation
Put Sound_hl2radio.zip into the Add-Ons folder in your Blockland folder.

Click Here to view this file on the RTB Download Manager

This add-on has been failed as a sound file but is back as a music file. You can download it here: http://forum.blockland.us/index.php?topic=77492.0

Drama / New master server change
« on: March 07, 2009, 03:14:24 PM »
Personally, I think it's bull stuff. It's been a while sense I've ranted about something Badspot did, but seriously, why should everyone's server have to start with their name? Sure it prevents fake "Badspot's beta" servers, but it can get annoying having no choice but to start your server name with your own name. Why not just release an update to the join server Gui that displays the name of the person who's hosting a server? Seriously now, not everyone wants to plaster themselves at the beginning of their server name.

Games / Odd happening on Garry's Mod
« on: March 01, 2009, 02:34:15 AM »
So I was looking at Garry's Mod servers, when I found a server called "come here if you want to be spawn killed". I was curious, so I joined. As soon as I spawned, speak of the devil, I was spawn killed but the host with an RPG. So I repspawned, and was soon killed again by the host and his RPG. This continued with me and four other people, trying to kill him before he could us, and I soon realized that you automatically die after five seconds. I'm guessing that this guy was using us as victims for his little game, where he would try to kill us before we were auto killed. It was pretty boring on my end and I don't take very kindly to being used against my will for someone else's amusement, so I decided to leave the server, as the other people being constantly killed already had. Just before I did, the host said. "Don't exit the game. Don't disconnect either." I ignored him, and pressed the disconnect button. But nothing happened. I saw the Garry's mod logo in the upper right corner of the screen, but I hadn't disconnected. I tried exiting the game and pressing alt+f4, but I couldn't leave the server. Eventually, I had to use ctrl+alt+del to escape. I don't know what happened, but it seems like he had some sort of script that keeps people from disconnecting from the server.

Discuss this and other odd happenings in Garry's Mod.

TL;DR: I dropped my donut on my keyboard and said "I'm gay" in Gmod.

Help / Console on Vista?
« on: February 07, 2009, 02:30:28 PM »
Ever since I got my new laptop, which happens to have Vista on it, it seems I can no longer enter the console in Blockland. Yes, my ` key is working fine, it just doesn't open the console. Does Vista have anything to do with this, and is there a way I can fix my problem?

Edit: Oh yeah, I can't seem to get into the console on any of the games I have on steam, either.

Off Topic / Getting a new computer
« on: January 30, 2009, 02:51:29 PM »
After months of waiting just to find out again that they couldn't find a suitable mother board for my old laptop and using the family computer (which sucks for gaming by the way) I've decided to get a new one. Any advice as to what laptops are good for gaming/which one to get?
