Off Topic / Anyone used to play this PC game when they were a kid?
« on: June 04, 2013, 05:19:13 PM »
The game was called Alex Builds his Farm, it was a game where you would play as a kid who lives on a farm and you would have to do activities to help the farm such as painting the barn, rescuing ducks in the pond, fishing etc.

Help / Portal gun no longer works with projectiles?
« on: June 01, 2013, 08:26:20 PM »
As you can see in this video at 0:15 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2IA9qiMZ5og the portal gun would send through projectiles such as the rocket. I tried this today with bricks and doesn't work, could it be because these are bricks and not interiors or something? Is there a fix for this?

Just to let everyone know, Blockland works with full compatibility under linux when used with the Wine program, having a native version would just seem more awesome (playing and hosting a dedicated server). It works so well that it can even host a dedicated Speedkart server with about 4 players on a computer that ony has 240mb of memory. Now if a dedicated Blockland server with Wine runs so well why should I be asking for a native version which requires work/time? It's just for the sole purpose of not having to have a dependency to run Blockland on linux, and of course a native version always brings out a little bit more performance. Another reason to have a native version is that not all linux distributions such as CentOS have wine in their repositories, which require people to get the downloads from other 3rd party or unknown repositories/places. A lot of games already support dedicated servers natively on linux including Minecraft, Garry's Mod, Counter Strike Source, Left 4 Dead 2, even Call of Duty 4 (I have set up all of these). My third and sort of final reason is that it shouldn't be too hard for Badspot to make a dedicated linux server and he also knows how to work around in linux, considering Blockland's master server runs on Linux.

Thanks to everyone.

General Discussion / Who chose to use per-pixel lighting?
« on: May 25, 2013, 08:14:43 AM »
Why did Badspot choose to use something demanding and have a lot of requirements such as per pixel lighting or whatever the hell it's called, rather than something less demanding and can be run on more computers such as Voxel lighting? With Voxel lighting you don't have that annoying 8 light limit (at least I think you don't) and you can also make Voxel light sources stay inside rooms/buildings (lights won't shine out through bricks) much easier without a lot of performance being affected (effected?)

General Discussion / Increase Bullet Speed?
« on: May 22, 2013, 01:49:22 PM »
Badspot can you please increase the speed of bullets/raycasting projectiles or whatever they are called? If you haven't noticed yet, trying to shoot a target on the left or right side of you with a gun while in a moving vehicle (jeep) is almost impossible or very difficult because the bullets just go to a random area or completely behind you. This would mean that the vehicle is actually traveling at a faster speed than the bullets are (which should not be possible). The other thing is that raycasting projecticles cant even keep up with you if you are jumping around and moving your cursor a bit left and or right (ill release a video some time).

Modification Help / How did Badspot measure bricks?
« on: May 19, 2013, 07:34:16 PM »
When Badspot was creating bricks how did he make them in correct size, like when making the regular and also special bricks so they match with the grid and stuff. Did he just start with 1x1 and then multiply each one as it went on?

General Discussion / Some Screenshots for Greenlight/Features Tab
« on: May 08, 2013, 07:55:34 PM »
These are screenshots that I sort of deem worthy to be on the "features" tab on the Blockland website and also maybe the steam greenlight page. I am missing a few which I will try and work on right now but for others feel free to post! Badspot, please put these on Steam greenlight!

Im stuck deciding what to pick as a career in life. I want to major in something with Computer Science/Engineering, programming (HTML, C++, Javascript, Python etc.). I want to be a programmer basically however ive been stumbled to decide as to what operating system to program for, I know Windows will get me the most money/job offerings but recently I have been using Linux and I have fallen in love with it. I think I would be more motivated to code for Linux since its sort of undiscovered territory IMO, and well everyone codes for Windows so its not like there arent enough of them. When I think of Windows to myself I just think of the word "stuffty" which just makes me not want to use it and program for it. I understand I could technically do both but that wouldn't necessarily work out.

Should I go with what my heart/myself desire or what will get more job offerings/money?

General Discussion / New banner maybe?
« on: May 05, 2013, 08:52:37 PM »
I figured since Badspothas been messing around with the forum website might as well update the banner maybe? The banner still looks nice but I feel the logo on this one doesn't really match with the one on the blockland.us website and the icon for the game so I tried at making my own. I don't really think it looks AMAZING or match more our current logos but just something different for a change
(We've had the same banner for years, and at my attempt to making a new blockland logo a year ago the majority of the community doesnt like the whole bubble/shiny effect).

Make some of your own banners and post them here too! (this is sort of a present to Badspot ololo, even though he still has to go and put it up if he likes it)

Off Topic / What OS do most of you run your BL servers on?
« on: May 05, 2013, 01:07:18 PM »
Im just curious as to what OS the majority of people use to run their Blockland servers use. If you want, post why you use it also.

Personally I run mine on linux (centos 6.4) because I can run a Blockland Speedkart server that holds at least 4 players and maybe more on a computer with 240MB* of memory.

General Discussion / Serious Issue With the Launcher!!!!!!!!!!!
« on: May 02, 2013, 06:34:27 PM »
(I'm almost sure Badspot is aware of this but in case he isn't this will be helpful.
The Launcher for users who already have Blockland installed seems to be working FINE.
The problem is for new users/new installations.)

Possibly due to the server being migrated, the Blockland launcher seems to be corrupted. If you try downloading Blockland (http://blockland.us/Download.html both windows and mac) the .exe (.dmg for mac) will download successfully and it will install into your computer however when you double click on the BlocklandLauncher.exe or the shortcut it made, the launcher loads up with the message "Loading Stuff" and then quickly following "Loading Blockland.exe" but after that the launcher exists itself and Blockland never loads up.

General Discussion / Smooth Shadows - IS IT POSSIBLE?!?
« on: April 30, 2013, 04:51:34 PM »

I was bored and decided to read through the Bugs section for S&S in the Development thread and I noticed this little bit of info Badspot wrote in the topic (see above). I understand why Badspot didn't look into this in the first place considering Shadows themselves are already very demanding. However, there is (are?) always the 1% of people with very powerful computers in any gaming community, Blockland too (not saying I am one of them). Could you add some type of option in the "Advanced" Tab for something that would make shadows smoother (it could also force the "High" setting, otherwise having the option on Low and the smoothing option wouldn't make shadows look well) I think it would be very useful again for the people with powerful computers or with people with somewhat powerful computers and want to do some Blockland machinimas in small maps.

(I have no idea how much performance the smoothing of shadows would cost since you didn't give us an estimate really but unless its something really crazy then I really think you should work on it)

General Discussion / No update this month?
« on: April 30, 2013, 05:46:46 AM »
Nothing, just wondering I guess we won't get a small update this month :(
We would usually get one at least every month or so.
