If someone had a lot of knowledge with Python, or just knows how to code with it, is it possible that they could edit the .DTS exporter and make it for the recent version of Blender? If so, is there anything else such as shading that the new Blender doesn't have that Blockland requires?

General Discussion / Our guns/gunpacks are horrible
« on: March 28, 2013, 07:24:59 PM »
Seriously, you can't even have a proper FPS server. The guns we have can't keep up with a person's aim, in other words if you start shooting in the middle of the screen and turn your aim to the left the bullets are still in the middle or the bullets are catching up to where you turned, the bullets take way too long to reach your aim (on top of that, its even worse if you have high DPI). This is a major problem, I have experienced close range gun fights where I start aiming a tad bit to the side of the actual player and when my aim moves on the player the bullets still aren't on him and then I get killed. Why can't we just have bullets that are incredibly fast or something similar to hit scans so we can make FPS servers that are actually enjoyable and not about luck.

There are also problems with some rocket launchers (have no radius damage at all) but that isnt my main concern.

Off Topic / Blockland is very well optimized!! (Server)
« on: March 22, 2013, 07:31:13 PM »
I never knew Blockland servers ran this good, I ran a server with 3-4 people on it with the Speedkart gamemode on a computer that has a Pentium 4 1.5ghz processor and only 240mb of ram (only about 80-100mb was usable). The server ran fantastic! No lag, not even when the bricks were getting blown up in the new track that was released or during map changing. I am amazed at how well Blockland performs its pretty cool. Any of you guys have any stories similar to this one?

General Discussion / Can we have pointed lights?
« on: March 19, 2013, 08:11:01 PM »
I'm asking whether if this is possible or not. I have noticed that almost all of our lights and light addons emit some type of circular light, I don't think I have ever seen straight lighting effects such as a flashlight or effects of a street pole on the ground. Are these things possible to create but just haven't been made yet or they aren't possible? Can we also put lights on vehicles?

General Discussion / So about the removal of terrains...
« on: March 16, 2013, 07:16:39 AM »
I remember how the thread said how updates will be able to get pushed quicker or easier (game features specifically). However, these updates haven't really been "game features" IMO these updates are updates that the community members could have created as addons (added a gamemode, added terrain, added bots - all add-ons) all of these things would also most likely work in v20. With blockland being on steam and getting closer than ever with reaching its goal (getting it on steam) we should make a good first impression otherwise everyone will remember the game by its major flaw (brick limit, datablock limit) and nobody will buy the game. I am mostly talking about the big engine changes, my main concerns are the brick and datablock limits. Basically I would like this to be expanded, maybe 512k bricks or so and at least a much larger Datablock limit, a lot of other games (espicially on steam) that have mods have an infinite amount of how many you can have, if Blockland is the only one with such a small limit then there is a problem

I am sounding like I am being a richard and saying that all of Badspot's updates have been nothing or useless, they haven't, I like the new fixes and additions he has added dont get me wrong. I just feel the main things should come first and then the smaller additions

Off Topic / Torque 3D or Unity?
« on: March 15, 2013, 07:57:46 PM »
I'm going to start working on developing a game, learning to code etc. What game engine would be most beneficial, I don't really mind if one is harder than the other, if one is better I will use it. I figure Unity has more support than Torque but I don't know. I really like Torque3Ds features and being a Blockland player...I would just love to develop in torque (id be more enthusiastic about it in it). However if a game engine like unity is much better then I will use it.

Thanks guys! Please tell me other good game engines you have heard of, I am nt sure of what type of game to make yet, I just want to mess around for now.

Off Topic / Is anyone interested in FTP?
« on: March 14, 2013, 09:04:40 PM »
I discovered how to get VSFTPD working on CentOS linux and found that it was a pain, more of trail/error to get it up and running. If you guys are interested I can post/make a tutorial on how to get vsftpd on centos. The process will be the same for other distros. besides installation. The guide will also detail how to get SSL on it too.

Help / Graphics card making weird noises on the BL Menu (Solved)
« on: March 10, 2013, 10:53:32 AM »
Alright so whenever the Blockland menu loads up my graphics card begins to emit weird noises. I am not the only one with this problem, I looked up on the interwebs and it said its something with the capacitors that emit noises when under heavy load or something with the fan (which is normal apparently). I also found on the interwebs that some other people experienced this similar problems on other games when they are on menus running at 100fps or higher. When v-sync is disabled, the blockland menu runs at like 1000fps. When vsync is enabled, the menu runs at 60FPS and the weird wheezing noise is very very subtle, or you can barely hear it anymore.

I am guessing the solution to this is to have a Menu cap of maybe 60FPS/120FPS, which is what a lot of other game developers do (no need to have more than 120fps on the menu).

Another method could be to just enable V-sync when on the menu but then that would require the game to constantly disable vsync when you leave a game and then enable it again when you go back to the menu.

Help / Disabling music no longer disables music
« on: March 03, 2013, 07:32:13 PM »
This feature used to actually work but now its broken. Apparently even after unchecking the "Play Music" box, all current music goes away but then if someone adds a new song afterwards you hear it.

This is a video I made based off of YayFun's tutorial which is here: http://forum.blockland.us/index.php?topic=197423.0

The problem I found with this guide/tutorial was that it had some extra software/features that were unnecessary (IMO) for a regular person, the same could be for an advanced person, its preference really. Linux is becoming a very popular OS for desktop use and hosting as well. I wanted to show probably the most simplest way of hosting a Blockland server on linux and so here it is,

New video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gdsV2PNBajk&feature=youtu.be

Another Method:
I created a fully automated way to do this.

You now have a completely ready dedicated Blockland server located in the "Blockland" folder in your user folder. Just run the "Start Dedicated Server" file in it.

Off Topic / What (scripting) language would be better to learn?
« on: February 28, 2013, 06:32:15 AM »
I know how to script a bit already with Lua 5.1 (Roblox version). I know the basics and I can make things such as moving doors, two way buttons, guns,  simple stuff. On the other hand I also want to learn TorqueScript to make some cool add-ons for Blockland. Which one is more practical or which do you think I should go with? I already know the basics of lua but I know nothing of TorqueScript, all of these % and () makes everythjng confusing.  Should I stay with lua until I get a bit better and then go to Torque Script or no?

Notes: Reason why I want to move from Lua is because I feel lua or at least the Roblox version is too simplistic and easy.

What do you guys think? I might add a pole or something.

General Discussion / Why don't we have movable bricks?
« on: February 25, 2013, 07:35:59 PM »

This is what I mean by movable bricks, why don't we have something so simple like this that works with any bricks or maybe just a set of them? We had them on an older version of Blockland, this version should have it also. (This also has a GUI with it when you wrench on the bricks)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YXb9UFIpX3I     Go to 2:27

List of useful things with this
  • Secret Entrance
  • Single/Double Door(s)
  • Elevators (Not only up and down but sideways like in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory)
  • Platforms (Good for obstacles)
  • Spin things (Spinning bricks showcasing an item or something)
  • Movies/Videos - Trains, Cars, etc,

I will add to the list

General Discussion / Glitch when uloading save files on a Dedicated Server
« on: February 25, 2013, 02:26:30 PM »
This is probably a really well known glitch but it hasn't been fixed yet with all of the updates we've had currently. Basically when you upload files from a dedicated server or a server you aren't hosting the GUI that tells you your upload status comes up and while that GUI is there it doesn't let you use the scrollwheel on your mouse for your tools or anything else. Once the GUI goes away everything works again. Why does it do this and please fix this?

« on: February 24, 2013, 07:29:52 PM »
Iv'e followed this guide already http://maketecheasier.com/install-and-configure-apache-in-ubuntu/2011/03/09 and the site is working locally. I want to know how I can make the website alive and actually being able to type www.SITENAMHERE.com and being able to view the site (I have a Domain and DNS Sever already). Does anyone know of a good guide on how to do this?
