General Discussion / Re: Possible Linux port if Blockland was greenlit?
« on: August 19, 2013, 12:01:12 AM »
PM Baddy a link to this topic?
Well I would say he has a much greater chance in the General Discussion than his PMs, and his PMs are probably for more important things. I think I will just leave it here honestly.

I decided to bump this as its starting to get lost...I doubt Badspot will post here so this will be my final bump.

I was looking at your specs, why do you have an APU with a dedicated graphics card? You should get a Phenom II X4 or something. If you want to keep your APU you should get an AMD graphics card so you can crossfire the integrated GPU with the dedicated card however there isn't a wide list of cards that can do hybrid crossfire with it. I would suggest getting the Phenm II X4 or if you want higher than get somethig higher than that.

I've said this before so some may remember but Blockland is really low on system requirements when it comes to running the server. I ran a Speedkart server with 3-4 people on a system with a Pentium 4 1.6ghz, 240mb of system memory, and I used the OS CentOS. The server ran flawlessly, I would get the "LAG" icon when the round would restart and maps would change (which is mormal IMO) but racing was flawless and didnt lag one bit. So basically, if your specs are better than that you will be fine lol. HOWEVER, upload speed is also a biggy when running a server for any game (I have about 20mbps)

General Discussion / Re: Are We Still Using That Old Engine?
« on: August 18, 2013, 01:09:54 PM »
I know it is. But you don't reply to a post saying that an engine is terrible by saying a game using the engine is in alpha. The engine is not in alpha.
What the forget are you talking about? I never said the engine was in alpha, I said the game was, and in the above quote you said that you understood I was referring to the game but then below you are saying I was referring to the engine. What are you trying to do here?

Torque3D is not in alpha.

Sorry I was saying the game was in alha...you could've figured that out simply by googling the game but I guess you didn't even do that.

Torque3D is terrible, shown by how terribly optimized that game is.
It's in alpha lol. Also the physics engine is seperate, they just use torque3d for the visuals.

i don't get why people go to the trouble of making ports of games for tiny niche audiences like this, especially when all it does is cause them to flood support forums complaining about it not working with whatever obscure ass version of linux they're using
far more trouble than it's worth
I'm replying to this as a way of bumping but also to respond to you. I do agree with you in the sense that if I were Badspot I wouldn't spend money developing for a platform that has a very small userbase considering the amount of money Badspot makes compared to other indie games (im not saying he's poor but there are a lot of other indie games that profit much more than Blockland). I just think its something nice to do and in the long run you end up supporting all platforms meaning there is a greater chance of income (even though 2 of the other platforms may be small).

As far as people running into problems, I disagree. Considering there isn't even an official program for Blockland on linux, there are only 4 pages of help threads for linux where as for Windows there are around 9. HOWEVER, this could be because like you stated before, the linux userbase is small compared to the other platforms.

"I couldn't care less about what you say and I never asked for your opinion."

If you say "I could care less", then it implies you care to some extent.
That could be ever so slightly caring, or being obsessed over what others are saying.

"I couldn't care less" means that you do not care at all.
And therefore it is impossible to care any less. You can't have less care than no care.
I probably did word that incorrectly sorry, but I care a little for everyone's opinion even if they are ignorant. If I didn't (or state that I didnt) then why should they care about mine? In this case, I think Linux is a very nice base to build OSs on, while other people think it sucks or is silly.

PLEASE NOTE: I already know there will be a couple of handicaps posting "but linux sucks" and "nobody uses it"... so guess what, I could care less about what you say and I never asked for your opinion.

Now that I have straighten that out I would hope for a reply from Badspot or Rotondo. Lets say Blockland was greenlit and many people started purchasing the video game and Badspot gained a lot of income from it, enough to hire more developers. Would you (Badspot) think of hiring one developer for the linux platform (Debian/Ubuntu)? If not, please state why?

(Does anyone think I should email Badspot about this rather than a forum post?)

Not blocky. Badspot has a specific style that is the Blockland style, as I call it. He would probably have to be the one that makes and releases Blockland style, default addons.
Unless if he can teach THE WAY.
Wtf are you talking about?

A couple of these questions have been answers already and have been on te greenlight page since it first went up. I thought steam would greenlight games this month as well? They are only doing it in September?

Edit: For the questions that haven't been answered I bet the keys will just be tied via the account. Some games on steam do this already and also games on Origin such as Medal of Honor (the key I believe isn't visible or obtainable but it is automatically added with the account). We really don't know how this will work though, good questions.

This game called BeamNG Drive (its in alpha) simulates realtime vehicle physics/crashes etc. theres a video below. The cool thing is that it runs Torque3D. I do not know if the physics has its own engine (like bullet which is what BL uses) but still its pretty cool.

Help / Re: Cheapest Video Card For Shaders?
« on: August 16, 2013, 09:52:06 AM »
There is more to getting a new graphics card than just getting it. Depending on your current computer specifications, you may need to upgrade your power supply. Additionally, your current hardware will limit how far you can upgrade. If you get a graphics card too powerful, it will bottleneck your CPU. If you upgrade your CPU, you'll probably have to get a new compatible motherboard as well, and then the PSU....

Basically, you should tell us your computer's specifications so we can give you a recommendation.
In reply to Pecon, to see your specs click "start" go go run and type dxdiag.exe and hit enter. After a little while a window will come up, it will have CPU, RAM (ram isnt really required to tell us but tell us anyways actually). Then go to the "Display" tab at the top and tell us the name of the card. To see your power supply you need to open up your computer and read the label on the PSU (or sometimes it says it right on the power supply), it can be a bit confusing so feel free to post a screenshot and we can help if you need any.
