Just wondering, what graphics card do you have? And which version of the drivers are you using?

v44
Due to performance issues with Torque3D, the game is re-written for the Quake engine. Supports standard OpenGL, 3dfx glide, S3 S3D and PoverVR SGL. Also, .ogg music is replaced by modules.

If Blockland runs at all, it will run like absolute crap.
The machine has way too little RAM, the CPU has crap floating point performance compared to a Pentium II with the same clock speed, and the graphics card was absolute stuff even when it was new. I've played RTB 1.045 on a Pentium II 400 w/ 512 megs of RAM and a 16 mb 3dfx Voodoo 3 3000, and it was barely playable. If your system manages to even start the game (very unlikely since the S3 Virge didn't really do OpenGL), it will play like a slideshow when it doesn't write data to the HDD's page file. But hey, it'd make a hilarous YouTube video.

I just skimmed the history thing, but his main point seems to be that it's evil because it is installed with windows. Aside from the obvious reason of free marketing, internet explorer is installed with windows so you can download a browser. Nobody buy's physical copies of browsers like this anymore. I don't think you even can.
The complaints aren't about that it's included by default, but rather the heavy OS integration. Windows 98 and later used IE as the default shell. You can probably figure out what this did to performance.

I've said this countless times, but go scavenging for computers in dumpsters and at junkyards. There's a good chance you'll find something that's better than what you have right now.

That's why you don't compress them.
Even if you decrease compression to nearly zero, you still get faded colors and ugly artifacts.
