The extreme summary as I understand it is that these two men, Igor and Grichka, are science fiction TV producers in France who managed against all odds to gain PhDs and spent a while basically trolling scientific journals with ridiculous, incomprehensible theories (including a major one about how they apparently could figure out what happened in a certain point during the Big Bang), and go on forums using pseudonyms or their friends to support their work and insult critics. They spent a lot of money with plastic surgery to forget up their faces, and Igor has like 6 kids.

The more I read, the more I realise that summary is extremely limited, but it should help some people here get the basic context.

Is it like that in Australia? You guys don't technically have Net Neutrality after all. Or is there some other law stopping ISPs from doing so?

they won't throttle websites. It'll be more like, if you pay for the video package then you'll have full speed, but the music app will be throttled because you didn't pay for the package.

It doesn't discriminate inside categories (mail, music, video) but between the categories.

How are they going to categorize every single website? What if you go on an obscure website?

and it's important to note that it's not "forget federal level net neutrality," it's not "forget net neutrality as it's being implemented by the FCC," it's "forget net neutrality." So assuming there's a mean-what-you-say, say-what-you-mean thing going on, there's something about the core concept of net neutrality itself that they don't like. I'd like to know what that is.

We are suffering on this neverending hellscape that is the internet and we don't have the self control to get off ourselves.
