Off Topic / Valentines Day - Afraid of it.
« on: January 14, 2013, 09:24:58 PM »
So, I'm pretty worried about Valentines Day this year. In fact, I'm pretty much afraid of it at this point. On Valentines Day of last year, me and my best friend got into a fight, and that ended our relationship. She was pretty much my only support system, and really the only person who actually really cared at the time. So to say the least, she meant a lot to me.

After she left me, my already depressive state was tripled and I became "severely depressed" up until about mid-August of this year. Even now when I think of it, it knocks me around a little. So, Valentines Day is coming up soon, and I'm rather worried about it. I know that I'll be in memory lane for pretty muh a week after Valentines Day.

I need moral support...

Off Topic / Jeep's Car Thread - Compiltation
« on: January 13, 2013, 02:04:13 PM »
I need to buy a car by the end of February. I've made threads like this before, however, this is a compilation of those vehicles that I selected. Choose your favorite, or if you have another suggestion, please post some info on it (pic as well). My limit here is about 12,500 - check Edmunds for prices.

2008 Jeep Patriot (click picture for video)
Benefits:
-Cheaper than Escape. (also great on gas)
-Jeep.
Downfalls:
-Kinda boring.
-CVT.

2008-10 Ford Escape
Benefits:
-More accessorized that Jeep Patriot.
-Great on gas.
Downfalls:
-More expensive (not substantially)

2007 Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor
Benefits: (not going to play cop with this)
-v8 Engine.
-Tons of fun, and VERY cheap parts.
Downfalls:
-Interior is "bare bones".
-People will drive extremely slow around me.

Suggestions are welcome. Any cars that I like will be added to this poll. Please keep this format to make my life easier! This will likely be the last "Car Suggestion" thread.

Off Topic / Server Conversion Project: BSoD - Data Center

Server Conversion Project
BSoD - Data Center

Project Description:
So, a while ago, an XP machine of mine crashed and went to the Blue Screen of Death. Unfortunately, for me, that means losing a lot of Blockland Files, and some vintage data. I was considering just restoring it, but I realized that I don't have the disc, and I could use it for better things. So, I am on a journey to convert it to a corporate-worthy data center.

Current Machine Specs
Dell Dimension 3000
Processor: Intel Pentium 4 (2.8 GHz)
RAM: ~700 MB
RAM Cap: 2 GB
Graphics: Intel Extreme Graphics 2 (pretty much shot for gaming due to age)

Desired Machine Specs
Dell Dimension 3000 - Server
Processor: Intel Xenon 2.5 (Quad Core)
RAM: 2 GB

Software Information
Windows Server 2012 Datacenter (MSRP $4,809)
SQL Server 2012 Enterprise (MSRP $27,000)

My Plan
Since I have some nostalgic Blockland files on this computer, I'm going to need to get my files off of this computer before I can proceed. I'm also formatting the HDD. However, being in a full BSoD, I can't to this with this machine alone. So I pulled my Windows 8 machine to do some data work. The Windows 8 machine is new, so it is using newer technology. To get the HDD to connect to this motherboard, I needed some parts:
Insten 675691 SATA to IDE / IDE to SATA 2-in-1 Converter Cable (MSRP $6.49)
Linkworld 7" 7" convertor from POWER 4 PIN-IDE Female to 15 PIN-SATA Male (MSRP $3.99)

With both of these parts, I will be able to get my old HDD connected to my Windows 8 machine. Once I get my files, I will still need to do some hardware work. I need to bump up my RAM before I can install Server. My processor at the moment should be enough for the time being, so I don't need to worry about that. After I get the software up, I'll work on the processor.

With the processor replaced, I need to get this to be a quiet machine. I'm going to switch over to liquid cooling.

Servers Final Worth
Hardware: ~$250.00
Software: ~$30,000.00
Total: EST $30,250.00

Status:
Waiting for my Newegg parts to come...

Off Topic / Drivers Test TODAY - Passed!
« on: January 03, 2013, 02:31:25 PM »
So, the big test is today. I take my test at 3:00. I'm soo freaking nervous. I'm pretty good at parallel parking, but instructors tend to fail you for extremely petty reasons. I intend to drive like a grandma the whole time if I make it past parallel parking.

Motivate me please :/

2: Ding Ding!

General Discussion / Engine Switch Thread
« on: January 01, 2013, 07:01:02 PM »
What is an Engine?
A game engine is a system designed for the creation and development of video games. For example, Blockland uses the Torque Game Engine by GarageGames. Whereas another game might use another engine that is similar, however, makes the game look and perform 20x better.

Why switch?
Torque Game Engine is cool and all, however, Blockland started out as a small project. Blockland was never meant to grow to 40,000+ players, and look where we're at now? Our functionality is limited, and we have to sacrifice features in order to get both performance and looks to somewhat work together. Blockland needs a new era that will attract many users. Our current system is just not good enough.

What about the mods?
Mods would of course stay. In fact, they would get better. You see, Torque strangely uses something called "Torque Script". Unfortunately, Torque Script is very limited and buggy. If we switched to a better engine, developers could very swiftly create mods by using a real coding language, instead of a pre-set one. Imagine the possibilities of that? On the down side, our current mods would need to be ported over.

Torque Game Engine CryEngine 3

Isn't this expensive?
Not at all. CryEngine3 is an indie engine, so it is meant for people like Badspot who aren't running multi-million corporations. If enough people are willing to contribute $20 via a donation, we can make this happen. So, with all of these benefits, what are we waiting for?

Do you think we should switch to another engine? (even if not CryEngine3 - a modern engine)

Off Topic / The Bracelets Thread
« on: January 01, 2013, 01:12:11 AM »
OK. So, I realized just now that I wear a ton of bracelets. My arm is starting to fill up. I swear, I'm addicted to them. I keep wanting to add more and more to my collection. I don't even know why.

So, my question is:

Anyone else wear bracelets like they're going out of style?

Server name is Bedroom Returns (v16)

So, I realized that I became bored with the current system of always flat maps. It was cool at first, but it lost my attention. So, I decided to take a nostalgic visit back to V16. I am going to be hosting a server later for v16 in the Bedroom. Everyone is more than welcome to join.

Plea:
I really want Badspot to release a final version of map supports. Disable the Auto-Updater, and tell everyone that no support will be given for this release. I would love this.

Problems:
-Auto-Updater closes Blockland because you can't cancel it.
--Solution: Start in Offline Mode. Enable Internet in-game, and use a mod such as In-Game Main Menu to browse the main menu.

Hosting:
Suggest a map for me to use!

Get Involved:
Help me figure out how to disable the auto-updater (not Launcher).
