As anticipated by the recently leaked box art discoveries, Crysis 3 was rumored to be announced.  Crytek, via their Twitter account "@Crysis", mentioned that a very important announcement was due for today, April 16.  The announcement was the introduction of Crysis 3, the next chapter of the first-person sandbox shooter games that have been notable for breaking the norms of first person shooters and also breaking your system (unless you play it on the console like a gigantic tool).

Sources:
Confirmed facts:
  • Prophet is the new protagonist - ... Yeah.  (spoiler)After dying in Crysis 2, he somehow comes back in Crysis 2 at the very end magically.  This will hopefully be explained.(/spoiler)
  • The setting is New York City (again), but in the year 2047;  For reference, Crysis took place in 2020 and Crysis 2 was in 2023.  New York City is now even more of an urban jungle; taking "jungle" literally as it is now completely overrun with plants and wildlife.  With the new actual urban jungle setting, it will likely be open as the original Crysis was, and not as linear as Crysis 2.
  • CELL is back; the military contractors running under the Hargreave-Rasch company have erected "nanodomes", and apparently their plan is to do this with multiple infestation zones in order to assert control (over the entire god damn world).  New York City is referred to as "Liberty Dome" and will have "seven distinct and treacherous environments", and Prophet has somehow penetrated into the Liberty Dome to kill Ceph and find answers (possibly as to why the hell CELL wants do rule the world and maybe what happened to the other original members of Raptor team in the original game).
  • Prophet has an "enhanced nanosuit" and a nanobow.  No clue on how the suit is "enhanced" and how the bow will work really.
  • Due for Spring 2013 with multiple pre-order bonus packs (Stalker/Overkill/Predator packs), each giving some unique early weapon access and some pretty little skins.
  • Still runs on CryEngine 3, the same engine used for Crysis 2, and will be released on PC as well as Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and... the Wii U.  It will be on Origin for those digitally downloading it most likely, as EA has been shunning the use of Steam since booting their Origin service.

Games / EA wins "Worst Company in America" 2012 award...

...and uses it to boast about how many users they have.

In response, EA gave this statement to Gamasutra. “We’re sure that bank presidents, oil, tobacco, and weapons companies are all relieved they weren’t on the list this year. We’re going to continue making award-winning games and services played by more than 300 million people worldwide.”

Anyone else watching?  I'm loving his idea of insourcing encouragment.

"Trade Enforcement Unit" I don't like the sound of this... or his mention of piracy.
Nvm, it's specifically for physical import/exports.

The thread;
I just got in a relationship and she's a gamer ^_^.

like this: this is funny
No you loving moron, he's agreeing with me by also calling you a tool.  You can try to play ignorant and go "omg lawl these trolls they just get to me man xD", but you're still a gigantic tool.  I don't think anyone actually likes you after this thread.  Almost everyone has given negative opinions about your new relationship with your gamer girlfriend, save for maybe 1-2 people at most.

In short, you're a stupid cunt and your only defense to me was labeling me as a troll, even though I'm doing what everyone else is doing, which is nothing short of just calling you out on your proof and posting "I don't think gamer girls make for good relationships".

Off Topic / The Gipsy Kings, a.k.a. the most bad-ass
« on: December 22, 2011, 09:09:28 PM »

Quote
The Gipsy Kings are a group of musicians from Arles and Montpellier, who perform in Spanish with an Andalucían accent. Although group members were born in France, their parents were mostly gitanos, Spanish Romani people who fled Catalonia during the 1930s Spanish Civil War. Chico Bouchikhi is of Moroccan and Algerian descent. They are known for bringing Rumba Catalana, a pop-oriented music distantly derived from traditional flamenco music, to worldwide audiences.
Their music has a particular Rumba Flamenca style, with pop influences; many songs of the Gipsy Kings fit social dances, such as Salsa and Rumba. Their music has been described as a place where "Spanish flamenco and Romani rhapsody meet salsa funk".

tl;dr:  In the 80s-90s, they made some funky flamenco/salsa music that still rocks today.

Their popular tracks include Baila Me, Volare, Bamboleo, and my personal favorite, Escucha Me.

Discuss what you think of these guys freely.

just watch the video and if this erupts to be too much I'll lock it ASAFP.

This video is satirical in nature.  If you can't get the hint, it's entirely sarcasm and pokes fun at the "Rapture predictions".

Off Topic / Who is textbombing/textbombed me?
« on: December 10, 2011, 10:41:22 PM »
I'm getting constant texts of either "hello fatty" or "general cigarettenick".  This narrows it down to an incredibly small group of people in Blockland who actually are in possession of my number, and all four of them wouldn't do this.

I'm flattered that you're going to this much of a degree but ClamTXT.com easily halts any bombing whenever a user simply texts "stop" in reply to any of the numbers that they were bombed by.

Also if you told me how you got my number that's much appreciated too.  I'm not really mad, but I just don't really enjoy watching my phone vibrate and play my tone 50 times, no matter how pleasurable 50 vibrations to the crotch is.  But seriously, I just wanna know who did it out of curiosity.

Games / Command and Conquer: Generals 2 announced
« on: December 10, 2011, 08:48:31 PM »

http://www.commandandconquer.com/en/games/bygameid/cncgenerals2

At Spike TV's stuff-stained bias-as-forget hosted-by-nongamers VGA Awards, a trailer which had been previously teased some time prior was revealed.  Now we know it as Command and Conquer's newest title, Generals 2.

Quote
In the near future, world leaders are mere seconds from signing a global treaty and bringing an end to war as we know it when a devastating terrorist attack rips through the peace conference, killing all in attendance. In a world left with no politicians, diplomats, or activists, only the Generals remain. It’s up to you to assume their roles, command of their forces, and put an end to global terrorism once and for all.

  • All-out War – Take control of three unique factions, competing for resources, building up your base of operation, and leading massive batteries of tanks, soldiers, and aircraft into battle.

  • Uncanny Sense of Realism – Frostbite 2 technology allows for visceral, visually stunning conflict at an epic scale. Incredibly detailed units and environments, dynamic physics, and exhilarating visual effects bring the battle to life in ways never before seen. This is the closest thing to real war without the consequences.

New Ways to Dominate or Ally with your Friends – Go beyond classic deathmatch with a selection of new multiplayer game modes, designed with both cooperative and competitive play in mind.

Thrilling Campaign – Command the war on terror in an electrifying single-player campaign. Experience the dramatic story from multiple perspectives—from heroic General to crazed terrorist—while engaging the enemy in pulse-pounding tactical combat.

Ever-evolving Experience –  Enhance your game with an expanding array of downloadable content. From maps and units to factions, campaigns, and more, the fight against terrorism is deeper than ever.
From the bold points:
 - Base building is assumed to be back as opposed to CnC4's horrible attempt of having no base-building whatsoever.
 - FROSTBITE 2 HOLY stuff IMGOINGTOCUMIMGOINGTOCUMIMGOI NGTOCUM
 - DLC, which probably means it'll use Origin and not Steam because EA is pretty damn greedy when it comes to their DRM.

At an unusually dreadful videogame awards show last night, EA finally opened the lid on the long teased Command and Conquer: Generals 2. Here’s the news: it’s being developed by a new studio branded “Bioware Victory”, and built using the same tech that powers Battlefield 3. The screens are quite pretty, and posted below.
It is NOT being developed by EALA!  There is hope!

personal oponion:
Personally, I half-enjoyed the original Generals.  It made for great fun but it was very much lacking in some ways.  Being another title from EALA aka the corpse of Westwood reanimated, I'm very cautious to see how this will turn out considering the only real good title from that studio was CnC3.  It's nice to see them use Frostbite 2, however.  If it uses Origin and is priced at a high $60 then I won't buy it likely until it goes for at least $30 or less like BF3 did.

Games / Onlive - Free Halloween Scarefest!
« on: October 28, 2011, 08:31:57 PM »
So if any of you remember, OnLive is that really good attempt at cloud gaming.  First reactions from people were critical, people kept questioning just how it would be done properly.  Eventually these guys got it right.  Basically OnLive is like playing your game on another computer in high quality.  The only downside is that you require a fast connection (because you're literally playing a game over the internet), but hey you get to play your games in the highest settings!  Oh and the picture is a bit blurry/unclear.  Did I mention that because it's a game-cloud/stream service, you can watch other people?
tl;dr: You get OnLive, you play game over internet off their servers.

Play 4 games for FREE!

For this weekend they are holding a free-game weekend for Halloween!  Play Metro 2033, Amnesia, F3AR or Orks Must Die for free!  You can also pay $1 to be able to play them forever.

www.onlive.com

Signup is free, and you can play 30 minute demos of the games available.  I don't remember how many games there are, but there are plenty.  They work to the same capacity as the real copies, except you can't change any video/graphics settings (because they are all playing in high settings/quality anyway).

It makes my performance worse on this.
It's always blurry, and often has lag spikes. While on steam, it doesn't :c
Maybe it's just my internet but it seems faster when I just play the games, even when I can't run them. I tried out Just Cause 2 and it was about the same performance as on my computer.
YOU NEED A DECENT INTERNET CONNECTION FOR THIS.

Quote
On a PC or Mac:
MINIMUM SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:

Internet Connection: 2 Mbps wired or Wi-Fi connection
Operating System: Windows 7 or Vista (32 or 64-bit) or XP SP3 (32-bit), Mac® OS X 10.5.8 or later
Computer: Most PCs and netbooks, all Intel-based Macs
Screen Resolution: 1024x576
RECOMMENDED SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:

Internet Connection: 5 Mbps wired or Wi-Fi connection
Operating System: Windows® 7 or Vista (32 or 64-bit) or XP SP3 (32-bit), Mac® OS X 10.6 or later
Computer: Dual-core PCs, all Intel-based Macs
Screen Resolution: 1280x720

You primarily need to meet a download speed of 2 or 5 Mbps.  NOT MEGABYTES, MegaBITS.
Use www.speedtest.net to find out what you have, the results are displayed in Mbps.

...a search engine.

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, he is announcing a SEARCH ENGINE.

It's called WireDoo and supposedly will stand apart from Google with its ability to "deep search" by going for related keywords as well.

Personal opinion:  That's loving stupid.  If I wanted to search "mitsubishi galant '95" I'm sure as hell not gonna pay attention to the related keyword "mitsubishi galant '98".  Very rarely do "related keywords" actually work.  When google gives me "related keywords" it's usually the corrected spelling of something I searched.  When YouTube tries to generate related keywords for my videos, it's some outland-ish subject like "racing" when I'm uploading a video about Minecraft.  God knows what Bing does for related keywords but I can't be assed to find out.

Off Topic / Question about phones (specifically AT&T)
« on: October 22, 2011, 05:33:31 PM »
I have a Samsung Impression with an AT&T plan.  I can't upgrade my phone at the AT&T store until January-ish.

If I buy a used iPhone 3GS, AT&T version, off ebay or amazon or from someone I know, can I slap in my SIM card and it would work?

Or would AT&T/the iPhone know about it and not let it happen?

Off Topic / YouTube Adsense is stuck.
« on: October 20, 2011, 03:11:31 PM »

long story short; I was offered to make money from my videos by allowing ads to be displayed but it's been sitting there for 30+ minutes yesterday and still is today.

There's no text, it just sits there.  It's dark because of a YouTube dark theme I installed after that one change they did to video pages.
