kidplasma, the problem probably is that you use an extremely large template and add very small details to it that aren't even good, and i'm pretty sure these pictures are a small resolution first and after that they are resized so they can be seen better. you need to take and use this template and not a large one.

Tips:

-Do not save pixel art as a jpg file. (Perferably png)
-Select a color that you have not used and use it to fill any background space, then proceed to select that as the transparent color.
-Do not try to draw on templates (adding clothes etc) by enlarging the template.
