I have my own opinion, I think badspot should just continue adding small updates, and in the next 5 years or so he should spend 18 months updatig the game engine. Then they will be able to have both terrain and shadows., making everyone happy.


Its actually sort of silly if Badspot goes ahead with this if more than half of the community doesnt want this, we could easily boycott (NOT SAYING THAT WE WILL).

Check the poll, 75% approval rating.

Sorry, there is no due process in this thread. But you asked nicely so...

You broke these rules in the OP:

"Why don’t you keep everything like it was?" Because Blockland is developed by a small team, it is not possible for us to keep every feature in the engine working 100% AND add cool new features.

Also, your argument is uninformed and biased. Bricks might take more memory, but they are way faster than equivalent interiors. Interiors are tremendously hard to work with. Game types are fun because of the gameplay rules not because of interiors.

I will delete further posts about how we should implement a replacement for interiors/terrain. Having a replacement is a fine idea. But this thread is about shadows and shaders and how interiors and terrains are going away, not about how interiors and terrains are staying.

Does that mean you'll accept builds to showcase shadows? If so I'd like to apply Althur

I'll start a shadow test + beauty thread when we are closer to release. You can post saves there. We might include some as defaults. In the meantime figure out what your prettiest Slate-compatible save will be. :)

I'm excited about these shadows, but I have to say I would be disappointed if lights the player spawned still penetrated through walls.
I would also hope that in this update or a close one, you could change the flare and light amount to allow more lights. I have several reasons for this.
One is my TDM I have been working on for 2 months.

I think you'll be pleased with how your build looks in the shadow update. BTW if you send me a save I can test with it.

What kind of support are mappers going to be given once the update passes?
Right now it feels like mapping is going to be off limits and we'd be stuck with a bunch of generic slate edits.

I don't know, what's left once you aren't making terrains or interiors?

It sure does, many houses had to be removed to make new ones because of the brick limit

Cool. Well, we'll look into it. We probably won't bump it for only one map. But if there are more people maxing out it makes sense.
