MBR doesn't support anything beyond 2TB and GPT can address space into the hundreds of petabytes

Not sure. I can't find any useful specs on it and I can't check directly because I'm not at it right now.

IIRC most hard drives under 3-4 TB on a 512 byte sector disk are required to be MBR since MBR cant address HDD space past 3-4 TB. I think its required to switch to GPT to get more space, since GPT can address more space
