Mapping Help / Re: Water Trouble

There should be some way to make the water seem colored rather than just changing the texture. But hey, it's Torque so probably not.

There are some color settings available for the water but none of them seemed to affect its appearance.

There is a "lava" water type you can choose. This should make it hurt/kill the player I was wrong. the "liquid type" setting doesn't cause player damage, at least not in Blockland.

To change the appearance of the water you need to select a different texture under the media tab. I don't remember there being a way to "color-shift" water.

That would be just as good. Let me know if you decide to add it in.

Wow, that's a really nice idea. I could try making it as an add-on if you'd like. EDIT: Or did you mean on the RTB website?

In-game if possible. I find it's much easier to find good servers if you can see the preview first; better than judging servers by title anyway.

Could the server previews feature be added into RTB as an alternate server browser?

I've played since V002 and I am 20. About 6 years of Blockland.

There's no need to be rude. He is obviously a younger player and he is just trying to have a good time.

If you find his build lacking, why not help him out?

The editor wand was a powerful tool but it only existed to make up for v002's shortcomings. The "complexity" was the result of necessity; the performance issues that plagued it are not present in "retail".

The real pity is that there is no official way to have moving bricks. Sure, we have JVS content and some others have hacked together moving interiors, but I'm still waiting on a proper implementation by Badspot. It may simply be that it isn't feasible to make a convincing, glitch-free, low-cost moving "brick" in the engine.

I've been using an Intel 2500k for a few months now (a Sandy Bridge processor) and I find the performance to be exceptional. They have fairly high overclocking potential too. This is all anecdotal of course, but the benchmarks available on tech sites support it.

If you're on a tight budget an AMD processor isn't a terrible compromise. Just be sure to check out the reviews/benchmarks of the various models and don't be fooled into thinking a 6-core processor is going to grant you any performance advantages in games.

It will be quite the "ricer". It was your money I suppose.

Perhaps "firing" the fishing rod performs a raycast to see if water is nearby. If it is, you could stand to win a fish based on random chance. No need to complicate it with emitters and such.

A voting system would be an unnecessary complication; a casual glance at the server would demonstrate what tags would be useful.

I'd keep the number of tags to under 20. That way they can be filtered/selected easily by the player without needing a massive drop-down list.

Friends lists and in-game chat is nice, but what I'd really like to see is server tags. I realize I've requested this before, but it's worth repeating.

The default server browser is functional but mediocre; it would be significantly better if servers could be filtered by content. The simplest implementation I can think of is that you, Ephialtes, manually generate the list of tags and server owners select up to three that best describe their server.

Examples:

Theme tags: Space, Western, Underwater, City, Medieval
Game-play tags: RP, DM, Mining, Freebuild, Themebuild

A slightly more difficult feature would be a server quality index. I'll leave the exact calculation up to you, but you could consider factors like: the # of players that connect, how long they stay, if players return and if so how often, server up-time, amount of custom content enabled, etc. Such an index might provide an incentive for players to host good servers and thus improve the game's value for its players.
