Creativity is a luxury no group in this game can demand. Most of us with the ability to build anything decent, replica or not, rarely finish a build. The scrapyard of a server we call a "spacebuild" is full of unfinished projects; it's a testament to the fact that creativity shouldn't be the driving quality we look for in players.

Furdle demonstrated a far more important quality: conviction. True, he didn't design the Millennium Falcon, but he sure as hell finished his replica of it. That's worth far more than most of the turrets and tubes (that some call ships) I've seen lying around.

I'm not familiar with his forum shenanigans, perhaps they are enough to justify denying his application, but I would ask that we take this "replica" issue off the table; it's trivial and irrelevant for the reasons above.

Sad that one of the most iconic ships from the Star Wars saga is apparently considered "boring".

Furdle's build is still miles ahead of some of the stuff we have lying around the server:

I quite like it. It's a real mistake to reject it.

Drama / Re: RTB Dedicated Hosting Service - real-time activity stream

It looks like RTB Dedicated Hosting Service is getting a lot of errors and whatnot (I'm not but other people who use the service are). Sorry I love this service and all but it doesn't really look like a big step up from Kalphiters

You have to be wary that you aren't being misled by a vocal minority. A handful of people, including myself, have experienced some issues but it's a drop in the bucket compared to the 60 or so servers they are hosting.

Furthermore, it seems like many of the issues are a result of flaws in the game or the engine it's built on. Flaws that don't show up till you host a server for an extended period of time.

Heres that log file. Not sure what's happening here, the server will show as being up on the dashboard, yet when I look on the serverlist it's not there. Also, it'll show people being on the server yet there is nobody there.

Edit: Also, is there a way to load custom skyboxes onto a server? If so please advise.

I disabled the auto-restart feature and the server has stayed up for 2+ days now. The issue may have been there.

I suggest you have the color of the text not correspond to the color players must choose. So, if the safe color is red, you might display : RED

This would provide a real, satisfying challenge and would allow you to remove the frustratingly annoying events like random rockets, guns, snowballs, and pushbrooms.

Another suggestion: either make the corners smaller, make them further away from the center of the arena, or specify a single corner. At the moment the middle/corner events don't do much.

If you want to really make things interesting have the colors of each pad change randomly after each event.

That's actually Sylvanor's server and I watched him build it. It is so marvellous but it's over 200k bricks so if you don't have the right comp, it crashes your client. Having used to live there, I almost cried as i walked through the streets. :P

You should convince him to release the save. It's a great looking build and it's a shame to let it gather metaphorical dust in someone's save folder.

I concur with Altiris on this. Don't throw the whole amount on a graphics card; I've built entire gaming computers for around that price!

Looks good so far and I'm glad to hear you will be releasing it; it's a real shame when people spend a great deal of time on fantastic projects but don't share them, like that great recreation of Seattle that I've only seen in screenshots.

Server is still a spacebuild but we loaded Battlestar Aceis to work on.

Ah, ok. It's off to a nice start.

I've restarted the server so we have all of the latest RTB features.

Where did my build go?

After our next update (aiming for the end of this week) I'll be looking into more advanced management options such as quota changing, music management and the environment settings you've just mentioned.

Do you have any ideas or suggestions about how you think it should work? I'm on the fence in terms of deciding whether we need a full blown saving system or whether it can be a button to save the current environment as the default to be applied on boot.

The latter would suffice for me and it would be greatly appreciated.

I've upgraded Comr4de's permissions so he can now start and stop the server as necessary.

65 days remain.

The server is online; I don't have a recent save so someone else will have to load one.

I've restored the save. No skyscrapers please.

I sent an email to about 24 hours asking how to change the colorset on a RTB server and have not gotten a reply yet.

It's been posted a couple times before in this thread; for now you have to upload the colorset via FTP. It's not too difficult and only takes a couple of minutes if you don't have an FTP client already setup.
