I think it might be something about the keyboard breaking when the game opens, I dunno.
Also it worked fine until I was forced to install Norton.

Try completely deleting the Team Fortes 2 folder from steam/steamapps/username

That sounds like it would break it.

My friend gifted me Team Fortress 2 about 3 days ago. It worked fine; for two days and a half.
Now, I can't control my character, switch classes, switch teams, or anything. When I try to talk to someone using the Shift+Tab Steam overlay, the text only comes out as numbers. (0123 49642 1834 012 34)
I can't even move. I can move while crouching, but if I stop crouching, my character takes over himself, and I can't control him. I tried reinstalling the game. I tried reinstalling Steam. I tried changing the controls. Nothing worked.

HUD is messy

Apart from that it's alright.

HUD doesn't that messy to me.
Aim assist; not a fan of it either, but it's pretty useful when someone is being annoying and jetting around, and it's hard to shoot him.
Jetpack isn't confusing to use for me, just hold down the jump button.

PROTIP: Manual overdrive > Automatic overdrive.
