You know, I really want a Bison primary.

I mean, really want one.

Something like this (stats are compared to the Bison's)

Dat Bison: The Gun: The Movie: The Monty Python sketch
Level 31 Indivisible Particle Smasher
+20% damage done
+25% clip size
+30% reload speed
Shots have a no-damage concussion field that causes light knockback (Roughly 3/5 of the Rocket Launcher's)
Replaces Rocket Launcher
Still does piss-poor damage to buildings

How about they just make a ray-blunderbuss secondary, make the Righteous Bison primary, and remove the Cow Mangler all together? The Righteous Bison can have the stats stated above.

i know, but single player already is a server and it lags for me so it would be nice to turn it off.

The update made me lag less, so I don't know what's your problem.

I've tried Layman Mod Maker, and it seems to be pretty interesting. Good for ores/tools mod, but not much else. Any other mods that are compatible I should try?

Smart Moving isn't cheating, it's just enhancing player movement and allowing you to get out of that ravine you spent days trying to escape.
