Yes, this game is awesome.  I started playing about 3 days ago, got to level 15 yesterday.
I've never really stuck with a free to play MMO(Because I have WoW...) but this is really fun.

Special is worth it, the ONI Blackbox is really high quality, really interesting.

I spent about half the release day looking at/opening it.
I'm weird.  I haven't gotten around to reading the diary-book thing, though.
