Off Topic / Re: Amos Yee: Why Child research Should be Legal

you should read up on the history of pride parades
the reason the parades are full of weird special interestes and such has a historical context
https://np.reddit.com/r/CringeAnarchy/comments/7oanin/what_exactly_are_the_children_being_taught_here/ds87f0w/
that doesn't negate the point that the overt loveual nature of pride parades is loving weird as stuff and doesn't help with any sort of "acceptance" they're supposedly going for, though
Didn't know about this. I'll have to chew on that for awhile. Thank you for sharing!

I should clarify that I don't have a problem with special interestist in general. I have a problem with people who take it out of the bedroom. I don't care if people talk about it publicly. Rather I think it's distasteful to, say, parade around in BDSM gear or something like that. Also, I just dislike hookup culture in general, as I see it as a distraction from forming stable, monogamous relationships (although I understand some people need to experiment before settling down).

It's not the final design, just an idea for what the new style could look like.
Oh, okay. Maybe we should ask modelers to submit possible avatar designs?

Not sure how I feel about the new player model. Looks like it's trying too hard to be a blockhead, while trying to not be a blockhead. Maybe it's just years of playing Blockland, but the arms and legs make me uncomfortable.

Who knows, though. It could grow on me.

blockland isnt "dead' but it is dying.... a very slow and painful death
Aren't we all just dying, slowly, though?

One has got to bring up the question, what is the probability that the legalisation of child research will lower the occurrence of individual child abuse cases? 🤔
For a child enthusiast, indulgence in child research is a slippery slope. It's crossing the line from suppressing their urges to indulging in them. Anyone who's been addicted to research knows that it leads them to increasingly hardcore material. For non-child enthusiasts, this can lead to shifty Kraigslist hookups were they engage in bondage or watersports. Weird, but it's between consenting adults and no one's really getting hurt. child enthusiasts, however, can't just find some weirdo on the Internet to fulfill their needs. They have to seek out children who are incapable of consenting (there may be some grey area there; but for overwhelming majority of cases, this truth holds). Of course, there are many child enthusiasts who keep their urges under wraps. But in most online circles where creepphilic material is circulated, many consumers are also producers (creepphilic material is often circulated in private chat rooms, where material is traded between members).

As much as it sucks to be loveually repressed, it may be necessary for the good of children to stigmatize child enthusiasm, both legally and culturally. It provides a huge disincentive to child enthusiasts to engage in abusive activities.

On the contrary, it could be argued that the stigmatization of child enthusiasm fosters a "forget what the world thinks" attitude, increasing the like likelihood that child enthusiasts will choose to abuse children. Giving them a way the satisfy their loveual needs in a way that doesn't (directly) harm anyone.

Also, there's already legal creepphilic material in the form of cartoons. For example, "loli" (hentai) and "cubs" (yiff / furry research). Plus, a lot of child enthusiasts get off on simply watching videos of children on YouTube. For instance, there's child enthusiasts on YouTube who find innocent videos of children--sometimes family videos or webcam videos that were accidentally posted--which they compile into playlists for other child enthusiasts to view.

This is all ignoring the fact, however, that the production of child research necessitates child abuse. Destigmatizing child research would lead more closeted child enthusiasts to view such material, increasing its demand, increasing the incentive to produce child research, and therefore likely increasing the incidence of research-driven child abuse.

the fact this exists and is gaining traction is proof of the slippery slope conservatives were talking about decades ago with social acceptance of homoloveuality
I doubt many non-child enthusiasts are coming out in support of it. There's a been some article here and there on child enthusiast acceptance. But a few of those have since been taken down. To me, it just looks like more child enthusiasts are coming out of the closet.

That being said, I do feel the LGBT movement is somewhat to blame for this. I'm bi myself, but I abhor the LGBT movement. It was fine in the early days, roughly 1940s to 1960s. But now we have pride parades filled with deviant loveual activity. We should be promoting homoloveuals and biloveuals to form stable, monogamous relationships and raise kids. They wanted to subvert heteronormative prejudice, which was fair. But they threw the baby out with the bath water. It's no surprise that child enthusiasts are now riding the coattails of the LGBT movement, which can be explicitly seen in their writing (lots of social justice lingo).

you have any idea how to get rid of the client message spam whenever someone says "the"
Oh stuff! I forgot to remove the debug code. One minute.

EDIT: This should do it.

General Discussion / Re: [POLL] How do you feel about raycast weapons?
« on: January 09, 2018, 08:57:56 PM »
raycast weapons don't hurt bots iirc which sucks, but otherwise i like them
This is a problem solely with Gravity Cat's raycast guns, as far as I know. For some reason, they only hurt bots in minigames.

I've been testing an attack that uses a radius check to deal damage, and the thing is ridiculously easy to hit with, even with a long windup time and relatively small range (it's basically the down-slam of a hammer weapon).
Perhaps applying the damage differentially could may it less overpowered. In other words, the hammer swing applies less damage near the beginning of the swing, and more toward the end, simulating the increasing speed of the hammer. You'd have to land the swing toward the end to really apply substantial damage, requiring more skill to use effectively.

iirc ppl use the grapple rope in grapple knife dms to go fast and increase the range of the knife
I'm sick of these melee weapons that hit from the muzzle point.
How have I played this game for a decade and not known either of these tricks/facts?

Off Topic / Re: What Are Your Non-Video Game Hobbies?
« on: January 08, 2018, 07:38:54 AM »
Some of these hobbies are more involved than others (listed in order of prominence):
  • music
    • namely piano, singing, and songwriting
    • used to compose classical pieces, but found singing to be more enjoyable
    • currently working on album; want to finish writing the songs this year, and record them all next year
    • trying to get back into digital music production (namely with LMMS)
    • pull out my melodica from time to time
  • computer science
    • programming (pretty broad; won't bother enumerating everything)
    • system administration, with Linux on a home server
  • electronics
    • salvaging parts
    • tinkering
    • occasionally doing actual circuit design (taking a class on electrical engineering right now, so hopefully I'll be able to do more in the coming year)
    • want to play with programmable micro-electronics, but haven't found the time yet (figure I'll wait until after my EE class)
  • reading
    • technical (computer science, math, AI theory, information security, research papers, etc.), philosophy, psychology, history, occasionally some fiction, and sci-fi (but only stuff with philosophical and/or political themes, like Orwell's 1984 and Zamyatin's We; not really into thrillers)
  • information security
    • wargames and trying out simple exploits
    • part of a InfoSec/CTF club at my university; not skilled enough to do competitive CTFs yet, though
    • occasionally doing something questionably legal
  • Russian
    • learning to read, write, and speak it
    • just started; New Year's resolution
    • literature and history
  • lockpicking
    • got a basic lock picking set and a few master locks
    • not very good, but it saved my ass when I lost my keys once

That's the current agenda.

there are a lot of people in this thread who say they draw that I haven't seen work of anywhere
They probably just aren't very good yet. Depending how often you practice, it can takes years before you can make anything worth presenting. I've picked up drawing on and off my whole life, and I've rarely produced anything I'd be proud to share.

I record music, right now I'm wrapping up a pop/rock album where I play all the instruments and my friend sings, will have to post it when it's done. :o
Definitely post it here. Love hearing from artists no one knows about (that came out as kind of insulting woops).

ive been getting into more traditional hobbies like ... ham radio operating ... blacksmithing
Same. Done any casting before? That's something else I've been wanting to do for awhile.

Vim and Emacs are absolute Garbahge. I use mostly notepad and wordpad mostly
Please tell me this is a joke. At least use Notepad++. Emacs and Vim are so much better in terms of efficiency, as long as you're willing to learn. As someone who started with Notepad and Wordpad, I can't stress this enough. Who gives a stuff which looks better.

I'm thinking of creating a add-on that helps make add-on development faster and more painless. For instance, I find writing findClientByName() a bit tedious. Given I use this function quite frequently, I have defined the following function to make calling it faster:

Code: [Select]
function fcbn(%name) {
return findClientByName(%name);
}

Do you guys have similar functions you use to speed up development? If so, include them below. If I package them up, I will give credit (so include you name and BLID in case there's any ambiguity with your forum profile information).

I'd host this add-on (thinking I'll just call it Support_DevLibrary or Support_DevLib) on GitHub, through which other developers can submit pull requests. All utilities included would be solely for the use of development, and not to be included as dependencies for finished, publicly released add-ons. And of course, documentation of each function/utility would accompany the add-on.

If something like this already exists, please let me know. I've seen libraries like Support_CodeLibrary. But I haven't as of yet come across anything specifically and solely for aiding development.

        - Role cloud: If you do not feel like having to store your information on the server for your roles (admins, superadmins, owners, etc), you can set up a cloud server and allow it to sync with the cloud, your old admin prefs will be backed up before syncing happens of course.
Oooo! It'd be cool to see more cloud-based add-ons like this in general.

GameMode Maker v2
You may remember this maker, but it is riddled with problems, and needs to expand. My plan is to have the ability to use Slayer, or use the default minigame system with more options, set the colorset, have the possibility to edit the server script in the gamemode (using scratch or use your favorite editing software for scripts), better environment options, and more. At this rate you mind as well just ask a robot to do it for you.
Glad to hear you're updating it! Utilities like this are very important for enabling and encouraging non-programmers to create packaged gamemodes. I was actually planning on updating it myself, but I guess it's best you handle it. I would recommend adding the option to load in settings from a minigame the user is currently in. It could then detect if the minigame is standard or Slayer, and setup the gamemode file accordingly from there. Likewise for the environment setting: allow the user to load in the current environment setting. This could significantly simplify the UI, and allow users to verify the appropriateness of their minigames and environment settings without having to save and startup the gamemode.

If this functionality is already include, I apologize. I haven't been able to get Script_GMMaker to work. Specifically, /GMMGui does nothing despite the absence of any syntax errors.
