Modification Help / Haha holy crap my model turned out crap
« on: April 04, 2008, 04:43:03 PM »
Fantastic, I love you milkshape!

I spent way too much time making every tiny face on this thing, and about 20% of the faces actually export correctly. All faces don't retain material data even with the material in Add-ons/shapes.

Any way I could salvage this thing or should I just dump it and try again? I'd like to use primitives seeing as connecting vertices together with Faces is apparently a risky business.

Games / A new X3 game, now with bad-ass trailer
« on: April 04, 2008, 03:15:20 PM »
X3 Terran Conflict is a new stand-alone game (not an Expansion for X3 Reunion) that is scheduled for release sometime in December 2008

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6IXffiOex24

Not much word on it yet, but they seemed to have added some elements of awesome to it (better explosions, cool new missile effects). Hopefully it will be a bit more user friendly then the last X3 game.

Speaking of which, X3 Reunion is currently available for buy and is the game I'm currently hooked on. The X games play allot like a mix between Star wars fighter games and a 3D space RTS, giving you the ability to command fleets of ships to wage epic wars or to dominate the market through trading, or both. The Xtended mod (acknowledged by the creators of the game for it's awesomeness) also adds a stuffload of ships and stuff to the already expansive X3 Reunion game. Not sure how much X3 is right now, but I recall it was available on Steam if you guys were interested enough to try it out.

Suggestions & Requests / Water-tight builds
« on: March 28, 2008, 04:41:03 PM »
Imagine this, building a box underwater, and the inside of the box would be water-less.

Would be cool for making submarines and stuff. Actually, it would rock for anything you build underwater.

Games / FFCC Ring of Fates
« on: March 28, 2008, 04:34:58 PM »
Final Fantasy Chrystal Chronicles: Ring of Fates has a very long name. It's also awesome, go buy it.

This is not a Turn Base RPG, it's purely an Action rpg, even I'd go as far as saying an Action game with a level up system. You run/jump around a 3D dungeon landscape, dodging or attacking anything you come across, to ultimately complete the dungeon puzzles and beat the boss at the end.

Some cool features:

- You can jump in this game
- Equipped armor, helmets and weapons change your appearance
- This game has a physics engine
- The camera angle rarely sucks
- Very long game
- It has a storyline mode
- It has a multi-player mode (you can play single player in multi-player if none of your friends are online)
- You can JUMP in this game, I mean holy stuff! That was like a lost art in the Gamecube game, holy stuff...

Also, you do not remain a loving potato midget in storyline mode, so don't worry.

Drama / Your add-on request sucks because
« on: March 05, 2008, 10:46:02 PM »
I'm sick and tired of the handicapped complaints made in almost every request these days, stuff like "If this is made into an add-on I will slit myself" and "Jesus tittyfu.cking christ be damned straight to hell holy fu.ck no. I will not have this add-on stain my beautiful blockland :'( "

The fact of the matter is that, like so many other add-on requests, if it is made into a real add-on then you do not absolutely positively NEED to download it if you hate it for whatever reason. If it's included in a patch then oh dear lord, you'll actually have to do something going so far as unchecking some box in Options, holy sh.it I'm sure many of you wouldn't even imagine how much work that would be.

This is tied to allot of requests, especially from other games (halo, mario, more halo) which are rigorously flamed out of existence the minute they come into life. Again, if such add-ons are made by these requests, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO DOWNLOAD THEM. They do not need to go into your stuffty add-ons folder, they do not need to slowly defecate your precious blockland because you do not need to loving download them if you don't like them.

"But, our pretty add-ons board will be full of halo/mario/naruto/stuff-I-personally-don't-like!"
I know ignoring some topics can be very difficult for some and even cause epilepsy in others. I feel your pain man, really I do! A ninja  add-on topic gave me hepatitis B, true story.

Of course, the other types of responses are appreciable, such as the occasional "This would be difficult to make" or "Positive generic request comment", or even the "Not possible without engine changes" comment if you want to feel smart until someone comes in and says otherwise. Those are more then welcome, but the needless flaming is something everyone could do without I'm sure.

Gallery / Lasers!!
« on: February 22, 2008, 04:29:43 PM »
Previous thread http://www.blockland.us/smf/index.php?topic=30653.0

I made new laser emitters mostly to get a hang of creating 2+ particle emission points per emitter without any complicated sha-bang, and it worked! Wonderfully at that, the emission points rotate as well.

Anyways, here are some new tests in bedroom dark:

The psychadelic rotating lasers

Offset Laser Sphere

Laser cube <3

mmmm

And a house + street made out of lasers, where the hell are the emitter bricks? I know I left them around here somewhere

Any feedback / questions would be appreciated.

Modification Help / Angular lasers and tri-hexa rotating psychadelic lasers
« on: February 19, 2008, 12:18:40 PM »
I had about 1 hour of peace yesterday so I decided to try some new ideas out with the red laser particle. Through some random calculations and rigorous trial and error, I finally managed to make angle bearing lasers which could be directed downwards or upwards in either east, west, south or north directions.

Further testing with one of the more peculiar functions of the datablock led to the creation of these psychadelic lasers, which actually rotate slowly while shooting laser dots in 3 separate directions.

Oh yeah and that god damn problem where the particles spontaneously rise for no adequately explained reason was occurring again so I simply made extra emitters with gravity-affected particles to make a set.

Also release date, or release at all is pending. Corner lasers are still proving to be extremely difficult to create. I'm off to study, but I'll check back up later if I have time.

Drama / Why so serious?
« on: January 25, 2008, 04:23:12 PM »
Has anyone managed to not Permaban "Why so serious?" yet? Every time I see him in a game it takes him about 10 minutes to do something server-crippling resulting in his immediate ban.

I saw him the other day and perma'd him after he spawned about 100 snow emitters under a cover. Not quite sure what his friend agenda is.

Modification Help / I am having problems with this cloud emitter
« on: January 21, 2008, 04:08:10 PM »
I am beginning to wonder if the windCoefficient code is broken, because I can't get rid of this damned constant acceleration upwards when I try this emitter.

Code: [Select]
datablock ParticleData(ThickCloud1Particle)
{
dragCoefficient      = 0;
gravityCoefficient   = 0.0;
inheritedVelFactor   = 0.0;
constantAcceleration = 0.0;
lifetimeMS           = 40000;
lifetimeVarianceMS   = 55;
textureName          = "base/data/particles/cloud";
spinSpeed = 0.0;
spinRandomMin = -10.0;
spinRandomMax = 10.0;
colors[0]     = "0.5 0.5 0.5 0.0";
colors[1]     = "0.5 0.5 0.5 0.7";
colors[2]     = "0.5 0.5 0.5 0.6";
colors[3]     = "0.5 0.5 0.5 0.0";
sizes[0]      = 10.15;
sizes[1]      = 10.10;
sizes[2]      = 10.15;
sizes[3]      = 10.10;
times[0]      = 0.1;
times[1]      = 0.2;
times[2]      = 0.9;
times[3]      = 1.0;
windCoefficient = 0.0;

useInvAlpha = false;
};
datablock ParticleEmitterData(ThickCould1Emitter)
{
   ejectionPeriodMS = 500;
   periodVarianceMS = 0;
   ejectionVelocity = 0.5;
   velocityVariance = 0.0;
   ejectionOffset   = 0.0;
   thetaMin         = 1;
   thetaMax         = 45;
   phiReferenceVel  = 0;
   phiVariance      = 360;
   overrideAdvance = false;
   particles = "ThickCloud1Particle";

    uiName = "ThickCloud1";
};

Pic.

I just don't know what's wrong.

Gallery / Star Destroyer (WIP)
« on: January 19, 2008, 12:35:30 PM »
I had almost forgotten about this project. Me and Cheesecake had started this a while back, it's a giant star destroyer. Now, you might think this thing is "small" or just "big"...

This thing

is

massive.

It's as big as the entire loving kitchen, it's so big that we had to use base plates to make the slopes because the lag with anything smaller could cripple a super computer. As it stands, it's a 47k build. No interiors or anything.

Inside:

Feel free to comment.

Drama / The big word: Religion
« on: January 15, 2008, 07:19:24 PM »
It's about time I wrote something for you guys on this topic, it just took Face's thread with the surreal quotes to get me going (Evoliotion haha). This is a difficult subject to tackle so bare with me.

First off, I am not writing this to attack religion. That's just stupid, attacking someone's beliefs is a tremendous waste of time and effort and never ends well, which brings me to my first point.

Generalization, we all do it. Let me begin by explaining why we do it. The main cause is attributed to the fact that human beings are lazy. I mean come on, if you had a remote control in hand, I'm pretty sure you would simply press a couple buttons to bring you to your new TV channel instead of walking up to the TV and manually changing the channels. But, flipping channels manually might lead to the discovery of something more interesting, or research or something. It's easy to forget the value of work. What does work have to do with generalization you might ask? Well, generalization is simply taking the entirety of a population and putting them in a bin labeled with "Stupid" or "Butts". Generalization never produces truth. You will always have a good amount of odd ducks that simply don't fit in your "Stupid" bin. But, making more bins will require much more thought, what to label those bins and who to put them in, and thus will require more work.

Now then, we will take a handful of people, specifically John, Bob and Puzman. All these people are from the same religion, John specifically is a prick (You know him at work) while Bob and Puzman are cool guys, but you have yet to meet these fine gents. John keeps boasting about his religion and what-not, and finally you make the easy, lazy assumption that everyone that follows John's religion is also a John-like prick without as much as a second thought. Now you meet Bob and Puzman, but they are from the same religion as John. You remember your generalization, which you would naturally not want to be wrong about, and you treat Bob and Puzman as you would John. You basically skip all the work of finding out who they are, if you can trust them, etc. You move directly to a verdict. Congratulation, you just generalized.

My next point is based on the fact that John boasts his religion like some rich bastard shows off his Ferrari. Religion is not the cause of anything. I can tell you this right away, the main cause of stupidity is the person him/herself. Religion is just a reason people will throw around, like a game of catch. There are countless people out there that don't give a damn about what others believe. They go about their lives, going to church, contributing to society, etc. Then you have those that tend to generalize a whole lot, and sure enough they have something against a certain classification of people. If these people happen to be "loud", getting their word across to others and basically ear raping them with it until it's all they can think about, then you have the possibility of something dangerous. You can also have non-religious, or people of a different religion doing the same thing.

These people are stupid, regardless of what their religion is. Their belief, that everyone who they suspect is like John and thus deserves some form of judgment/punishment, is messed up. No, I'm not saying Religion/science/whatever messed them up, that's just another way to throw that weight all over the place. It's just the way that the person was brought up, the collective of all the specific situations that the person has been through that makes him/her that way. When you think about it, religion in these cases is itself a victim, being used by some to promote their will onto others.

Feel free to comment, add your point of view to this. Contributions are welcome, albeit there is a difference between a contribution and an assault.

Suggestions & Requests / New map requests
« on: January 07, 2008, 07:18:25 PM »
I had a couple map ideas hit me, both mainly slate edits with a twist.

Entering Atmosphere

A map with the earth underneath your feat. The special feature is that every solid object (including you) will be entering the atmosphere and thus on fire. But, only the exposed surfaces will be on fire (i.e. the insides of things will be unaffected, as will things that are located above other things)

Script wise, the main idea would be to make the ground essentially shoot invisible projectiles upwards at objects. The projectiles would make small fire-like effects on impact, creating the effect. I don't have the slightest idea how to make any of that happen though, hence the request.

Desert Storm

A desert map with a sandstorm. It will also only effect the outsides of buildings (sand won't get inside buildings). This could be slightly similar to the other request, in that it could also make use of projectiles. Invisible projectiles would spawn and rise upwards, creating Dust projectiles at random intervals as the invisible projectiles rise. The invisible projectiles birthing the dust projectiles will die as soon as they collide with something, like a baseplate layed on the ground, removing the possibility of dust projectiles appearing inside buildings.

Once again, I just don't know how to make this happen. It involves allot of programming that I just don't understand practically.

I drew pictures.
(the white line in the Atmosphere example represents the invisible ground, the other line perpendicular to it with a little h is a height measure, basically meaning that objects will not need to be connected to the ground to be on fire)
