General Discussion / Re: Should Blockland be supported on Linux?

1.

2. You once again fail to see the point of open source software.

3. No one ever said that.

4. Not only is hammer the single most unreliable source of information in the observable universe, but it changes through wine versions, operating system versions, operating systems itself, etc. Just because one idiot said it didn't work for him doesn't mean it is the truth.

5. I'm quite certain Bill Gates is pro-national socialist what? I don't see him saying stuff like that. I'm also not supporting what he said, op is a dolt.

6. I don't see a lot of people saying they are superior to Windows/OS X users, but just because a few do, the majority of posix users don't.

1. thats kind of cool. but the workers do get paid for those contributions by their company. its not some generosity act done at home in the basement. its done by teams of professionals who are paid to do it. i dont think they will do it for free.

2. others contributing to the software, whatever. he is using it as a title to flash around the meaning that its automatically better than closed source. closed source gets updated by its team, so does open source by random individuals. unless you plan to use that source for yourself. there is no need to jump aboard open source train immediately and shun down the closed source train. they are both doing their jobs correctly(one more than the other because money is being put into it, and money does increase quality), source is just there if you need to get your hands dirty, which op and the casual pc users dont.

3. then why is open source better for themes? why do you need the full os code to change a theme "better" or "more". isnt that a bad thing? extra work for a theme?

4. this point shouldnt be argued anymore. i honestly have no idea why linux runs blockland faster if it does or what happens inside of it

5. i was making a joke because of his attitude when he refers microsoft

6. its an attitude thing. you can see it in the bandwagon of linux users. not the legitimate users. maybe its just that those tools are louder than the actual users.

> open source means nothing to you
except the fact that you get the assurance of thousands of the smartest programmers on this planet working almost around the clock (if you consider time zones) making the most secure but flexible operating system
that was directed to him, not in general. what is he using open source for? and the smartest programmers on this planet are already hired by companies to develop other things, like paid software. smart programmers dont find themselves without a job working on linux for free.

> people need to stop throwing this word around to justify sad clones of professional products
As of February 2014, POSIX operating systems run almost 70% of the internet
"sad clones of professional products"
i was referring to software more than the os. you have people going around referring to closed source software as the work of the devil. they are handed the source to the software, but dont do anything with it. but somehow they still act like open source is a title they must wear around proudly.
(imo closed source software is better than open source. they just seem to be more professional well done and taken better care of)

> customizing the theme doesn't require open source
you're right
but you can do it more and better when it is open source.
there is no reason for any os to have a theme be so ass stuck to the os it requires you the original code of the os to change it.

>  instead of attempting to bastardize the runtime of applications, just dont bother.
iirc almost everyone who played Blockland on Linux reported it ran shaders faster than if they did it on Windows.
well hammer says it utilizes the processor poorly. i would imagine it probably utilizes other things poorly too. but who knows what really is happening anyway.

> you have no legit use for linux
see my above statements
again thats directed at him. his reason is because windows was built by the national socialists to take over the world.

> youre just another hipster with a tin foil hat going around adding to the linux stereotype
the linux stereotype? what is that? not having malware?
a recent trend of script kiddies and hipsters using linux to pretend like they are better than average joe who uses windows or osx. they arent hosting anything or coding applications for linux or doing anything useful. it keeps becoming a problem because they take a jab at other os for being some sort of tool that stabs your wallet and drains it of cash.

samsung galaxy tab 3. screen is about the size of my hand, why would you aa that.
idk about you but the aa on my note was complete utter stuff. it was like a big pixel moving across the screen.

...why? that would likely make the controls and overall game even less responsive than they are now.

look at onlive. they stream legitimate pc games on anything.
they have accurate response time. just like a real controller
they frigging streamed dirt 3 on my phone, and no delay or anything. just as if i was holding the controller.
whatever they did, they did good.

My reason is because Linux is Open-Source. You can do anything with it unlike the limitations that Micro$oft puts on their operating system, Windows. No, the Linux community does not show off their "PC Skills", we are a community that helps each other.
open source means nothing to you. people need to stop throwing this word around to justify sad clones of professional products. did you edit any of the code in the os? make your own drivers? fix a bug? customizing the theme doesnt require open source.

I've customized it, you know. Since it's Open Source. :)

I also play games on it, just like any person would do to their OS. (For example, I use Wine to play Windows Programs and Applications)
instead of attempting to bastardize the runtime of applications, just dont bother.
"hey let me complain how much windows sucks while i run a program on my linux that emulates windows programs"
you have no legit use for linux. youre just another hipster with a tin foil hat going around adding to the linux stereotype
