Forum Games / 5 Years to the Day (Interactive Story thing)
« on: August 13, 2011, 09:01:14 PM »
If people enjoy this enough, I'd update it at least once a day when schools back in.

The Story: Exactly 5 years to the day, the apocalypse began. Not with a bang, not with wars, not with fear and destruction. Instead, it seemed like a simple common cold. But it was much, much worse.

We had no warning. No time to prepare. Before anyone could figure out why their families were going insane, why they bled from unharmed skin, why the world disintegrated before their very eyes, it was too late. Global powers, suspicious and too distracted of their distrust of one another, were unable to work together to find a cure. As the governments bickered at each other and threw blames, billions died. People cried for help. People asked why. But in the end, there was only silence.

You are Benson Hale. You are one of the few people left in this world who is immune to the disease. You travel alone. You travel light. For in this world of death and treachery, you have no one left to trust but yourself.

The Plan: This story is 100% controlled by you. You decide how he lives. What he carries, how he acts, his personality. All you. I control in no part the characters decisions in this story, I only write the outcomes of his actions.

A message from the handicap (Author): I'm sorry if it's stuff. :c

Creativity / Wafflajizzles unnamed dramatic story thing (Update 1)

I've been thinking of writing some sort of story for a while, but I was always too lazy to actually write it out. I've finally gotten around to writing the first chapter, but I still don't have a name. Let me know what you think c:

Chapter one: Cold Sweat

"It hurts.. so bad.."

"I know. I'm trying, just, calm down, okay? You'll be fine."

God damn it. I can't do this again. I've watched one too many scared soldiers, many of them just kids, die in my hands. But this wasn't the time to think about it. I had to keep working. I had to try. He's loosing blood fast, but I can't see from where. "I'm so cold, man..." He let out a long, rusty cough. "I can't feel my legs.." "You'll be fine. I just need to find the so-" His femoral artery was severed. I don't even have any transfusion packs to give him. I don't even have any painkillers to ease him. "I'm going to die, won't I?" I looked him directly in the eyes. I could see death in them. He deserved far more than this- bleeding to death in a dirt crater, under fire. He atleast deserved the  truth. But I lied to him. "You won't. you'll be fine." He let out another long cough. this one, accompanied by blood. "Medics are trained to lie well, I heard. I guess you must've missed  that course." His eyes were slowly rolling to the back of his head. No, no not now. Not again. I can't watch another one die. "I won't let you die here. I won't." Despite his atrocious condition, he managed one last breath and used it on one final sentence: "Your too late for that." And with a bloody grin on his face, he died. But there are worse things to worry about then a body now. There was a strange whining noise, and the hum of engines in the distance.. something was coming..

I woke up in cold sweat. The low pitched whine of the Ariska's engines brought me out of my dream. Sitting up in my bed inside the tiny cabin, I rubbed my eyes deeply. I keep getting those dreams about the war. Whatever I do, they don't go away. Hopefully, this buisness trip will take my mind off it. I get up, and wash my face in the tiny sink by the door. I pull on a fresh pair of clothes- Some casual things. My buisness meeting isn't until tommorow, So I have a day to fool around Jaltak. But then again, Who wants to be walking around Jaltak anyway? The little holographic display mounted in the wall of my cabin displays the information first in Altarian, Which looks it took the alphabet and turned it backwards, and then in english. It was about 8:00 AM in Altaria, Sunrise. The ship was in final docking procedures, and would land in about five minutes. All passengers were to report to the Entry bays for final de-boarding. Since I still had some time, I packed my things and started walking toward the viewing decks. Usually, the long, steel hallways are packed with travellers. However, today, there is only the sound of my footsteps and the maids of the ship preparing rooms for the next round of travelers. Even the Atrium, which is usually packed with people going to and fro, is empty, except for a few scarce souls walking to the Entry bay. Walking up the rightmost stairway to the third floor of the ship, I push open the glass doors to the Carpeted and window-surrounded viewing deck. Normally, the windows would be full of beautiful stars and the empty blackness of space. Today, It's filled with the warmth of the Altarian rising sun and the view of Jaltak's ever stretching skyline. It seems that each time i'm here, the Buildings grow taller. Or maybe the ships are getting smaller. The whine of the ships engines become ever lighter, and the dull thud of tethering hooks attaching to the side of the ship. A final decreasing whine sounds through the air, along with the sound of mechanical lifting. Exiting the viewing deck, and walking toward the Entry bays, I brace myslef for the days ahead. It's going to be a long, hard two weeks in this hostile world.

Games / Men of War: Assault Squad , must vent rage
« on: July 07, 2011, 05:24:52 PM »
So, I played a game today on assault squad. The games fun, but the community is stuff, and they broke a lot of things that were great in the original men of war. The worst things I think they broke in the new men of war:

1.) Spamming emplacements, like flak 38s, machine guns, etc, actually works now. I mean what the forget is that? A guy who's terrible at the game can spam a whore of emplacements and turtle down near a point, turning it into a god damn death field for anything nearby. Worse, emplacements often outrange high explosive shells for some reason, so that's stuff.

2.) Rushing a light vehicle and tactically controlling it into enemy territory doesn't work either, because emplacements are so much cheaper now. The moment you get 5cm into enemy lines, you get swarmed by a whore of Flak 38s and light anti tank, which is insane.

3.) Number two nullifies any counter early game to emplacement spam. So your forced to save your points and watch your infantry die while you wait for that little itty-bitty tank button to become not grey. And by that time, the enemy probably has a better tank on the field, because your forgeted.

(Note that these problems mostly arise with the germans, because germans always have to be overpowered!)

So I'll continue on to possibly the worst experience i've had with this game thus far.

I start the game in the center point with my teammate, as it was a 2 vs 2. We both get to the point first, lock it down with well placed infantry, and hold our ground, as our flanks are secured. We then worked out a plan that my ally would get an anti tank gun early, and i'd save for some heavy anti-armor late game.

The tank gun gets to the frontlines, and sets up, and it's still quiet.

Than comes the massive stuffstorm. First wave was 2 rushed squads of volkssturm. just double clicked on to the center point, so they didn't stop to shoot. Mowed them down quickly. about 15 seconds later, out of the fog, like 3 heavy machine gun stands, 2 handheld machineguns, and a Flak gun roll out of the fog and deploy right next to the point. They killed everything. Litterally everything. I had more infantry by this point, and my tank, and just needed to clear out the point of those guns. But every time i'd try to shoot one of the little guns with direct control, even though the aiming rectile was perfectly centered on the gun, it would hit the dirt like 10 meters in front of the gun. I killed one mg42, decrewed another, and that was it. I wasted all 50 HE shells on the sherman trying to blow up the loving gun, but it never died. It just kept hitting the dirt right in front of it. And when I was about to pull back to get more HE shells, the tank got sniped across the map by a Stug.  The game was stuff the majority after that, german stormtrooper spam rendering any attempt at caping the point stuff. Until I finally saved enough for a sherman jumbo 76, then we managed to finally get them out of the middle. But, of course, by this time, the germans got their own fat-ass overpowered weapon the field. The sturmtiger, which basically fires a 300 mm rocket shell with pinpoint accuracy at a target. The thing snipes my god damn sherman from across the map, the shell lands on top of the sherman, blows the turret off, makes it explode, and forgets us royally for the rest of the game. I almost threw my computer threw the window.

I'm not sure if i'm just stuff or the germans are overpowered, but I doubt skill makes enemies less acurate.

TL,DR Version:

Germans are overpowered.
