With v21 coming in the future, we will officially have shadows in Blockland. Back before this announcement, I would always use Destiny/Zack0Wack0's BLS2OBJ script to convert builds into .obj files, so I could render them in Blender and look at Blockland with shadows. So until v21 is out, I'm accepting suggestions for build renders.

Click for full size image.

This was originally just default builds and trying to replicate what v21 will look like. Screenshots from now on will have other light sources casting shadows, Anti-Aliasing, emmiters and more.

Feel free to suggest a build for me to render. Please use this format.

Don't expect all your requests to be finished soon or at all. I may need to edit them (unless you do so for my convenience) for the sake of the conversion and rendering being quick and easy. I should note that the Road Baseplates, 1x4x5 Window, and transparent bricks do not render correctly. Also, please try to use default bricks. It makes it easier for me. Consider this when choosing a build for me to render.

Creativity / Short story ideas?
« on: February 23, 2012, 01:35:47 AM »
It's 1:30 in the morning and I feel like writing a short story. Not too short, not too long, but decent length. If you have ideas for a story, tell me. I'll choose the three I like and set up a poll for you guys to vote which one I should choose.

General Discussion / Graveyard - Pale Green or Green Grass?
« on: February 22, 2012, 09:48:48 PM »
I've included a graveyard in something I am working on. I want every place to kind of "tell a story", the graveyard isn't tended to much, so I am wondering if I should use a pale green for the grass, or just normal green since it looks better.

Going with pale green and recoloring the fence to a lighter shade of black. Thanks guys!

Games / Red Dead Redemption - John Marston Scalps Bounties
« on: February 14, 2012, 06:39:40 PM »
I've played Red Dead Redemption for a while, my favorite job is Bounty Hunting. Now, you can either hunt them down, lasso them, and bring them to jail - or kill them. I never really thought deeply about how killing the bounty worked. You would loot their corpse for proof, then bring back the evidence and claim your reward.

After watching Hell on Wheels, a western television show on AMC, I made the connection.

John Marston scalps the bounty. I'm sure Rockstar had their reasons, but the game just doesn't come right out and say it. This is by far the only way I can think that John can retrieve proof from the corpse, and deliver it to the lawmen. He cuts of their scalp and hair with his Hunting Knife, and brings it back, and claims his reward.

Suggestions & Requests / Server Command - /removeHiddenBricks

A nice way to reduce brick count, even if there are only a few.

It would remove bricks that are completely covered on all six sides.

General Discussion / Losing Terrains & Interiors for Just Shadows - Wrong
« on: February 07, 2012, 06:40:37 PM »
It seems to me that some of you can't seem to understand this, but interiors and terrain are not being removed just for shadows. Without these aspects in the game, Badspot and kompressor will be able to create updates much easier. Many more things than shadows will be possible after we get rid of interiors and terrains.

These two features [interiors and terrain] complicate Blockland’s code tremendously. That means we can’t add game features very quickly. They still have bugs in them (after years of work). They are slow, too - bricks are about 90% of their speed and can do a LOT more (explosions, events, in-game editing).
Blockland is developed by a small team, it is not possible for us to keep every feature in the engine working 100% AND add cool new features.
Bricks might take more memory, but they are way faster than equivalent interiors. Interiors are tremendously hard to work with. Game types are fun because of the gameplay rules not because of interiors.

Stop complaining on how you are losing interiors and terrains for just one feature, more will come along the way.

Off Topic / Desperate Times Call for Desperate Measures

Have you ever been caught in a situation where there was only one possible decision, which was probably the worst? You didn't want to have to do it, but you had to?

One time I was sitting on the toilet. After flushing down my crap, I realized there was no more toilet paper. I checked underneath the sink's cabinet where we keep our extra toilet paper, but there was none left. All that was left was the brown roll that holds the actual toilet paper. You can figure out for yourself what had to be done.

What's your story?

Games / Cleaning Xbox 360 S Vents and Fan?
« on: January 29, 2012, 01:20:06 PM »
I have an Xbox 360 S, not the glossy one, so I'm not worried about cleaning that. With the console laid down horizontal, the top and side vents all have dust in them, so I can't simply wipe it off with my hand. The fan is probably dusty too, but I don't want to blow into the vents since the dust may get inside and screw something out.

Is there any way I can safely dust out the vents on the Xbox 360 S?

Help / Portforward on Westell 7500
« on: December 27, 2011, 01:16:59 AM »
I have hosted servers before, but this a new router. But not just a router, one of those hybrid modem-routers.

Now, I followed the instructions from http://portforward.com/, found my router, and followed the steps for Blockland. Everything is filled out correctly. I enabled the Disable UPnP in the Networks tab in Blockland, and UPnP is disable on my router. I start up my server, and open the server browser with canvas.pushDialog(JoinServerGUI); but my server's ping is ---, and with my ports forwarded, that means no one will be able to join it, and the ping should show.

If anyone has a Westell 7500 modem-router, is there anything else I need to do other than forward my ports for this router?

Add-Ons / Christmas Tree Brick (by Badspot)
« on: December 25, 2011, 07:51:26 PM »
Christmas Tree Brick (v1)
Christmas Tree brick for when the Pine Tree returns to it's normal state.

Description
Since it doesn't seem like we will be getting a seperate brick from the Pine Tree, and have the basic one and the Christmas one, I decided to copy the files, rename them, and package them. So when the Pine Tree returns to it's normal state, you will have a seperate Christmas Tree Brick!

Note: The brick icon is not perfect, it seems to have a greenish tint. If anyone knows how to make perfect brick icons, like the default icons, please let me know.

Installation
Put Brick_ChristmasTree.zip into the Add-Ons folder in your Blockland folder.

Gallery / Bathroom With Reflections and Realistic Lighting
« on: December 10, 2011, 12:27:38 PM »
After seeing a few topics with reflective floors, I noticed something. They're just halls with some windows, and a "reflective" floor. Very boring.
So I decided to build a small interior with a nice reflective floor. To me, that wasn't enough. I remembered seeing Eksi's topic on realistic lighting in Destruct. So I decided to throw some of that in there too.

Daytime; No Interior Lights

Nightime; Interior Lights

Off Topic / Why is Batman a dark and gritty character now?
« on: December 03, 2011, 09:40:12 PM »
In the modern Batman movies and games, Batman has become this dark, angry hero with gritty storylines and truly psychotic deranged murderers.

What the hell happened? Batman wasn't always like this. :/
