General Discussion / Re: Anyone got a game mode for me to host?
« on: May 29, 2020, 01:25:04 PM »
Ok so turns out the falling tiles thing I found was actually more like tools to make a falling tiles server.

Anyone have the gamemode itself I could just host? I remember a while ago hosting it myself real easily.

After Twitter decided to fact check one of Annoying Orange's tweets, he went out and signed this executive order.

What does everyone think of this? Good, bad? Was it rushed? Is it actually enforceable?

Badspot updated Blockland so that you need Steam to authenticate due to several keys getting stolen. Hosting dedicated servers now required a special token that can be generated by your Steam account on the Blockland website.
I'm assuming that a bunch of people don't know about this since they don't use the forums, and now their non-Steam accounts and dedicated servers just suddenly don't work.
While this looks bad for Blockland's waning popularity, I don't think this means much until there are literally 0 people playing the game. I remember that Badspot mentioned he could get Blockland's costs down to $10 a month, meaning that forum ads and the few people still buying this game on Steam every so often would be enough to break even.

Ok so I couldn't figure out how to get falling tiles to work since it seems to require an older version of Slayer. I'm too lazy to figure it out.
Instead I'll host temple treasure.

Some of these sound interesting, especially the ones the brighter dark made since I never played any of them before.
I think for now I'll do falling tiles though since it seems the simplest. Maybe if I get a lot of people I can switch to one of the more interesting ones.

Thing is, just hosting stuff that's been released all the time doesn't really bring anything new to hosting, it just gets boring after a while seeing the same servers over and over. But whatever I guess.
oh yeah sorry, let me just put in a ton of work to make something really cool and unique from nothing for free so it can be played by barely anyone

the point of this thread is that now there are a ton of servers and game modes that haven't been hosted in a while, and I'm trying to see what people wanna see make a return now that I can easily host something

Right now I have a ubuntu box that is running basically 24/7 and I have already set it up to run Blockland servers.
Any ideas on what game mode I should host? Right now I'm running Unlimited Mining but it seems that someone else is too. I guess I can stay on that for now but if anyone has a link to a gamemode that is still downloadable and would like to see it hosted, I could do it.

bare metal linux has several issues running on macs due to driver problems, i'd just run an unactivated copy of windows
edit: virtualbox is free if you want to run a virtual machine, im not sure how well it works however
I was unaware but it seems that wine works on macOS? Not sure how compatible it is tho.

Gotta love what Tim Cuck's doing to aaaaall those legacy programs. And yet they have the audacity to charge $10000 for a computer that'll be outdated in 3 years.

RIP mac users- run Windows 10 through Bootcamp (or maybe WineHQ would work?)
Run Linux with dual boot, and then run Blockland through wine.
No I am not joking, this might be the best way to run Blockland and potentially any game that requires OpenGL on a mac without having to pay for anything.

Help / Re: Hosting a server on headless Linux?
« on: May 21, 2020, 09:52:06 PM »
I'm dumb. I renamed "BlocklandLauncer.exe" to "Blockland.exe" for some reason. Renaming it back, and then executing the launcher again created the real Blockland.exe before erroring. Using this Blockland.exe works fine now. Thank you.

Also for reference since I didn't mention it before: the reason I had trouble installing winehq was because I had the wrong repository. I was going by how the site said I needed on for my version of Ubuntu, but I was ignoring how it was saying it needed the repository for "eaon". Creating the correct repository fixed this issue.

Ok thank you, that fixed the problem getting Wine to work.
However, now I am getting this error:
