Suggestions & Requests / SpeedKart Remastered Idea
« on: December 23, 2017, 09:31:53 AM »
Lately I've been having the idea to make a remastered version of the original SpeedKart Gamemode (not to be confused with SuperKart which was meant to be a sequel but it didn't quite work so well), so I made a list and I'm curious to see what do you guys think and what else should be included.

- New Kart Models, polished and with more detail, and maybe throw in some new karts that weren't available in the original.
- Improved handling so it can perform better on modter bricks.
- Improved original and community made tracks, adding more detail and life into the environments.
- New Tracks with new themes in mind.
- New Sumo Arena Mode, inspired by the classic Jeep Sumo, the goal is to push the other players out of the stage, the last one who survives wins.

Being a remastered version, it will still maintain the original goal of the gamemode, to survive the race and reach the golden brick at the end.

Games / Games that improved drasticly after updates
« on: December 23, 2017, 07:17:02 AM »
Do you have any game that was bad at first but it evolved and turned out to be a lot better after some updates? I got this question in my head since I got this game called Wreckfest, it lacked features, had a terrible UI and optimization, they released an update this month which made it a lot more fun, handles incredibly well and the UI is a thousand times better, I even had to change my review on steam.

Off Topic / Fear of death
« on: December 12, 2017, 09:54:10 PM »
I usually don't make very personal topics like this, but I legit have something that has been bothering me so much on the last few months that it's becoming a massive issue to me.

We all know we'll die someday, it's a natural process and some people get to believe that there will be an afterlife/restart as a new person or animal/nothing, that's fine and everyone should believe on what they want, but lately after I lay down on the bed and I turn off the lights, I get this huge fear of death, that one day I'll not be around anymore and this thought is becoming a serious issue to me, I waste hours rolling around on the bed trying to get some sleep but I keep panicking about it, this often happens before I go to sleep, but it's starting to happen when I hear people talking about subjects related to death, this is bothering so much and I don't know what I should do to ease my head from this.

I've had that problem years ago when I was a young teenager, I cried so many times, and after that I've spent a long time not even thinking about it, now out of sudden this fear came back, and I'm afraid that it will ruin my sleep if it keeps going the way it is, I've been wondering if anyone felt this before or it currently does, and what do you guys do to relax from all of this, this is a serious topic to me.

Games / What were your best moments in Online Gaming?
« on: November 09, 2017, 12:24:53 PM »
I can only think of one, I joined an online server in the racing simulator game Assetto Corsa a few weeks ago, it was a Mazda MX-5 Cup Race and there were more than 20 players, I managed to pass some cars on the corners and some span out, but the best moment was when a White and Green Mx-5 started to compete against me, we were racing on edge, passing each other very competitively, it was really intense (imagine one of these episodes in Initial D where two racers compete throught the entire race very close to each other), at the end I sadly span out and he passed me, but it was the most intense race I've participated, and we were doing drifts and donuts at the end with the other racers to celebrate, I finished in 11th place and he in 10th, pretty average when you consider the skills of the racers in the front, I wish I had recorded that moment.

Off Topic / What is the name of this genre of music?
« on: November 06, 2017, 05:49:56 AM »
It's hard to explain, but it's sort of a cheerful music with upbeat instruments, and it mostly fits a sunny environment, it's more common to hear it on japanese games, here are some examples:

Once I find more musics like this I'll add it here.

Suggestions & Requests / Island Resort Concept
« on: November 01, 2017, 05:46:39 AM »
One of the things that I think Blockland is severely lacking, is a server with a polished tone that delivers a big map to explore, with activities to have fun with other players, including a minigame system where the player can spawn in some sort of HUB room, where you can choose where to spawn in the map.

Judging by the title of this topic you're probably thinking of Wii Sports Resort, but actually my concept behind the idea was inspired by a game called Go Vavation which is also for the Wii, that game includes a huge island that is separated by 4 different resorts (city, beach, countryside and snow mountain) each provides the player different activities to play, and it inspires you to explore around to discover secrets and new locations, I want to do something similar to that concept in Blockland, where you can play games with friends and do other types of activities that are scattered around the map, including interesting locations to visit, maybe an island with a huge beach on the front with a city in the distance, and it can be expanded from time to time to always deliver more content for the players.

Or, there could be several islands, each far away from each other to save up on performance, each island could have it's own environment, there could be public transportations that works as bots which will always follow a specific path, and maybe create a tool that allows the player to spawn specific vehicles, for example a bicycle or a skateboard.

Games / Tips for a beginner in game development?
« on: October 09, 2017, 10:53:25 AM »
I've learned so much on this community, a lot of it was having an eye for game development and 3D Design, and Blockland helped me a lot to learn things that I didn't even know about, but let's face it, it's an old game, the engine limits our possibilites, and I want to take a step further, I've began to consider more and more about the idea of becoming a game designer (or lead director if that ever comes to happen someday) I got a lot of ideas and concepts in mind for games that I want to make, firstly I was thinking of using Blender to do 3D Modelling, and the Unreal Engine to develop the game, but I would like to know you guys tips and suggestions of what should be the best to start with, I admit I'm not a programmer myself so that's why I was thinking of using Unreal with it's Blueprint system, but I do 3D modelling, and I want to take a step further in that department.

Also if you guys have any cool websites I should check at how to get started I would gladly appreciate it.

General Discussion / The Dark Ore - a concept for a Full Blockland Movie
« on: October 02, 2017, 12:33:19 PM »
This has been one of my first projects in mind ever since I've joined this community, it's a concept of a full fledged Blockland Movie which I still want to make it a reality someday.

The Dark Ore is a science fiction Blockland Movie, inspired by futuristic movies and some works from the BEE clan, it's set in the far future where the Blockland civilization colonized all of the planets on it's own solar system, they're always linked providing resources, materials and scientific discoveries, it's the golden age of science and technology, one of the planets are used only for mining where a lot of new materials had been discovered providing technological breakthroughs over the ages, and turning the scientists who discovers them into legends, the planet is populated mostly of miners and scientists, often times they separate themselves in teams, sharing the discoveries together.

One of the scientists is named Tyran (concept name for now, it might change with time) a 30 years old scientist, famous by his studies in the medical area which are archieved by his vast knowledge in material research, but such fame made him thirst for more, he joined the Team V0002, which are about 10 people, half are miners and the other half scientists, that alone bothered him so much because he wanted to discover a new material himself, but that was the only way for him to access the Ore Planet. (Concept name)

He dedicaded his life on that planet, doing anything to find the next big undiscovered material that can turn him into a legend, or for power, until one day during one of his extra midnight hours, he finds a mysterious ore, hidden in the deeps of a recent new cave that had been opened for research, it had a weird wavey effect and - *ACCESS DENIED*

I don't want to spoil too much lol, but let me know what you think and tell me if this should be worthy for a Blockland movie.

Games / How to improve free mobile games.
« on: October 02, 2017, 09:58:39 AM »
I have some plans of becoming a game designer (in terms of doing the visual 3D part, and directing the development of the game), not sure if I will actually do it but I like to brainstorm some ideas from time to time for some fun games, for both consoles, PC and maybe mobile, the mobile gaming market is huge and we can't ignore that fact, I've played plenty of different mobile games and I've been thinking of the best methods that could be done in terms of free games.

Most free games that I've noticed uses some of these methods which can be a nuisance at most:

- Video Adverts: The game forces you to watch them after finishing a stage or randomly while playing (the second option is incredibly annoying)

- "Energy Bar": it's a bar that drains after a couple rounds, once it's empty the player is forced to wait a few minutes (sometimes even half an hour) to play again, or pay to fill up the bar (another unnecessary option)

- Remove Ads Option: 95% of the free games have that option that you can pay a small price to remove ads from the game.

- "Gems": a premium type of in-game currency that can allow the player to skip through a lot of grinding, or unlock items that can't be accessed with normal in-game currency (we can call them coins) that you can win by playing the game (depending on how it's implemented it can be a problem)

- Banners: Small ads that appears on the bottom or the top of the screen, sometimes they only show up in the menus, but others appear all the time even while playing, and depending on the size it can be a problem.

- Pay 2 Win: this often happens in games that has an online mode, which makes it incredibly unfair for players who can't pay for in-game currency.

Sometimes I like to imagine some fun and free games that could be released on the mobile market, like a 3D platformer, racing game, puzzles and so on, with a few methods that I think it could be the best to make it fair and fun to play, so here are a few ideas I have in mind:

- Weekly prizes: that is included in a lot of games, basicly it gives you a prize if you open up the game each day on the week, once you complete the entire week you can gain an even bigger prize, that can't happen if you skip a day though.

- Adverts with prizes: There could be an ad button after finishing a level to play that can give you a bonus after every level, there can be coins and other types of prizes, the ads can be skipped after 3 to 5 seconds by clicking an X on the corner though so you're not forced to watch the entire thing until the end, but that can be optional, so you're not forced to play the ad if you don't want to.

- Gems that can also be earned by playing: They're rarer than coins, but you can still earn them by playing the game, allowing you to buy those gem-exclusive only items in store, yes they take longer to unlock compared to items that can be bought with coins, but it won't block the player entirely from having them without paying real money for it, but there still should be an option to allow players to skip the grinding process by giving them the option to pay for coins and gems.

- No "energy bar": Seriously that's just useless.

- "Billboards": Not sure if that one can be possible, but I've been thinking, let's say on a level you see a billboard, if you stand your character infront of it for a few seconds an ad plays on the screen, and by doing that you can win random small prizes, or the billboard starts to move, revealing a hidden path to a secret area of the level, but since this requires the player to stop and stare at it, it's optional, so you can just skip it.

- Balanced Online Mode: Balancing players with similar levels to play together, so it won't be unfair for the newer players.

- Completionist features: Unlock items by earning all the 3 stars in the level, each could have a certain objective to complete, for example earn a star by not killing any enemies, collecting all the coins, accessing all secret levels, avoid jumping and so on (the objectives can change depending on the level, some can ask you to kill all the enemies, while others the complete opposite), and medals depending on how fast you went on the level, Gold, Silver and Bronze, Gold gives you 3 prizes, Silver gives you 2 and Bronze only 1, this can boost up the replayability and the challenge of the game, giving the players the desire to replay that level again to complete it 100%, some exclusive items and levels could be unlocked by reaching a certain ammount of stars.

What do you guys think of this so far? I think some of these ideas could improve free mobile games greatly, without
being an annoying money grab game with a lot of barriers blocking you from progressing further, or a lot of grinding to do, you can suggest your own ideas too.

Suggestions & Requests / Ideas for a Blockland Adventure/Platformer Gamemode
« on: September 14, 2017, 10:03:16 AM »
Inspired by open world 3D games like Mario 64, Mario Odyssey and more recently Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, I think Blockland could definitely benefit from a big gamemode that allows the player to explore big open worlds with lot's of activities to do and things to collect, not the typical "The golden brick" meme kind of thing, but it could be an adventure for something, I've got some ideas in mind:

- Be able to travel to different maps, each having it's own theme, with missions scattered around, being able to talk to a NPC to activate a mission on your mission list, and be able to earn something in return
- Mission list, a list of missions that you currently have to do, and the ones that are already completed can be checkmarked.
- Currency and prizes, at missions, the prize can be money or equipments for your player that can allow you to traverse to places that you coudn't reach before (a rope to reach the other end of a bridge to continue your adventure for example) and there could be stores that allows you to buy items.
- Bosses, depending on the location you reach, there could be a boss blocking your way, so you must prepare yourself in order to defeat that boss first.
- You could unlock new locations by having a certain ammount of *insert collectable object here* sorta like the stars in Mario 64

Not sure if this whole thing would work but it would be really fun to have a gamemode like that, and maybe it could work in online, but each player having it's own missions to do, and maybe they can help each other out.

Off Topic / Issue with a PS2/PC Steering Wheel
« on: August 29, 2017, 01:54:14 PM »
A friend of mine gave me a steering wheel that works for PS2 and PC, it also comes with a gas and brake pedal, every button works and it works just fine when I turn to the left, but for some reason in the games, when I turn to the right it goes all the way out, even when I just turn the steering wheel a bit to the right, I believe it's a steering wheel from 2006, and it works fine physically, but I'm not sure if this is a hardware or a software problem, just wondering if anyone here had a similar issue or know a solution.
