« on: November 29, 2011, 09:11:34 PM »If you are supporting abstinence based love education and being against abortion then it appears to me that you are supporting two mutually exclusive positions. It has been documented in the real world that communities with love education covering safe love and contraceptives have fewer unwanted teenage pregnancies than communities using solely abstinence only based love education.
If you believe that abortion is wrong, then you would probably be in favor of reducing the abortion rate. Simply banning abortion doesn't fix the problem. It's like putting a bucket under a leaky pipe. Abortion has been around for thousands of years and making it illegal will just move it into underground clinics or alleys, or force people to try home remedies to terminate an unwanted pregnancy, all of which are potentially quite dangerous. Reducing the frequency of unwanted pregnancies will consequently reduce the rate of abortions. If something is shown to reduce the rate of unwanted pregnancies, then on the grounds of it being consistent with your goal of reducing abortions, you should be in favor of it. This kind of education is more effective then abstinence based love education so you should support it if you do not think people should be able to get abortions.
There's a name for this effect which I forget. You know, banning something causes it to be more prevalent/dangerous. *bolts to Google*
