Off Topic / Private Sections - Now with 100% more truth!
« on: June 17, 2012, 02:48:16 PM »
Well,
Okay, well, I'll help fill in some of the blanks since the OP is really out of date. Most of those forums have been deleted.

I can tell you that one of the categories is called Archive - v8 and includes the forums Archive v8 - Add-Ons, Archive v8 - Maps, and Archive v8 - Faces, Decals, Prints. Shortly after v9 was released these forums were publicly accessible. v9 introduced a new add-on package format based on zip files. Before that add-ons were just random files and folders thrown in the add-ons folder. The boards were archived to give add-on owners an opportunity to convert their add-ons, then they were closed down after a few months. You can see some of those forums up in the main post. They've been merged, deleted, and renamed since then.

In the Files category, there is a forum called the Fail Bin. The Fail Bin contains add-ons in it that were deemed so horrible that they had to be hidden away for the safety of the community.

In the Blockland Forums category, there is a forum called Beta Discussion. This forum was initially used to discuss changes and features to the game before it was released. After Blockland was released, it continued to be used to test pre-release versions of new Blockland versions. The last version of Blockland we tested was v19. Now there's a constant update system and we test individual features on private servers, and news is posted to the public development board, so the forum has fallen into disuse. The last post in that forum was from December, 2011.

In the Off Topic thread there's a forum that mostly contains non-Blockland related projects produced by Badspot and the beta testers. You might see some of them if you follow PAX this year. The name of this forum is Cool People but this is in fact a misnomer, so don't feel bad that you can't view it even if you are a cool person. According to an official poll administered by kompressor, only 37.5% of the people who can access this board are in fact cool.

There is one more category and 2 more forums that I can't view. If had to guess, I would assume that it's a test category, and it probably contains a test forum, possibly for the RTB mod bot. I assume that the other forum is probably full of pictures of sharks skateboarding over an exploding volcano.
Theres the truth

Whats new?
V2 adds something (and the only thing...) people wanted! Private uploading!
So now under the upload button, you can check if you want it to be listed on the public file lister (which also is the list that people see ingame, if they use the manager)
And still
holy mother god of stuff this is not for keeping your private mods on
Literally, this is ONLY for public mods.

How do I use it?

Ingame Manager?
Mhmm! Now you can download Client_BLADManager.zip from the homepage and do all your downloading (not uploading -> Thats impossible) in game!

Why not just use RTB?
The difference between RTB and this is that RTB has a full blown out mod manager super mega thing with tight uploading requirements and intense stuff like that. The tightest security this has, is that this has a file checker and it makes sure the zip is correctly named. This also isn't for having a place for your add-on to be checked out commented and stuff. This just hosts the file, always gives you a direct link and even generates a forum code. This requires no account and no super long description and icon.

What the forget.
Im not saying it's not a cool wedding, i'm just saying

it's cool and all and not to be mean, but those guys are way too loving obsessed with Minecraft o.o

113
I know this would never happen in a million years, since it'd cost a stuff ton of money and it'd be a loving stuff to get to work cross platform, but if we had Euphoria AIs, that would just be plain loving awesome.
Incase you don't know what Euphoria is, Watch the video on their site.

I know this won't happen, but how loving cool would it be if it did?

Modification Help / PyBLS (Blockland Save File Library for Python)
« on: May 21, 2012, 07:16:42 PM »
What it is
So if you have Python 2.7 or above (untested on lower versions) and you have a decent amount of knowledge of python this could become handy if your a lazy fatass. This basically is a 50 line class that you can use to write save files.

How to use
A quote from the example:

if __name__ == "__main__":
   import random
   bs = BlocklandSave('ASuperFunTest.bls',8437)
   cnt = 100
   size = 100
   data = "4x Cube"
   for i in range(cnt):
      pos = str(int(random.random() * size)) + " " + str(int(random.random() * size)) + " " + str(int(random.random() * size))
      bs.addBrickLine(data,pos,0,0,0,0,0,-1,1,1,1,8437)
   bs.finish()

I think you can figure it out yourself. :)
It's a zip file, since theres this long boring part i just call a prefix (prefix.txt) where you can change the colorsets and stuff, so you go to the colorset.txt of your colorset.

Then you just remove the line breaks and the DIV lines, also make sure they are all in decimal format (i think that matters, do not know), by taking the hole numbers and dividing them by 255.
Then in the output you'll get something like...

Then go to the file thats titled prefix.txt, you'll see a bunch of lines similar to this, just replace them with the new colorsets, making sure not to remove the line break. Thats all.

Now where do I get this stuff?
Right here! It includes:
BlocklandSave.py - What you import
prefix.txt - Must be in same directory
ASuperFunTest.bls - A file generated with this.

Enjoy! (btw i wrote everything, incase you wondered)

Blockland Terrain Generator
The Unofficial Project

About
I was loving around in my Documents folder when I stumbled upon my old Sockets folder. Though I hadn't touched this in years so I opened it up to actually be all my heightmap stuff. I began to look through my work. I found this really nice SimplexNoise Heightmap Generator, so I asked my trusty steed friend ottosparks to help me convert it to TorqueScript (all of this is either in python, C++ or Java), so instead of generating Heightmap.bmp files it would build it. Half way through we realized it all along only used colors and not actual positions, while we could have made a fix for it I decided not to, it would have been a waste of time.
A few hours later after shooting my bow in my backyard trying to figure out a terrain generation algorithm, I was packing up and I remembered I also had Truce's Heightmap2BLS script which I used to convert the heightmaps into .BLS's. So I quickly got to my computer and opened it up, too bad it was in Java. Then the thought struck me, I MUST CONVERT THIS TO C++ AND MAKE A GUI, QUICK, TO THE BAT MOBILE STEAM CHAT WITH OTTOSPARKS.

Brian Smithers: hey
Brian Smithers: i just realized something
Brian Smithers: WE ARE BEING handicapped
Brian Smithers: Why are we converting a C++ Script which runs at about in 0.5 seconds to generate molestic terrain, when we can just convert Truce's Java Heightmap2BLS into C++ and run that using a cache system!
Brian Smithers: WE ARE MOLESTING handicapped
ototperks: idk
Brian Smithers: so
Brian Smithers: plus
Brian Smithers: java is a lot like C++
Brian Smithers: we can convert it easily
Brian Smithers: well lets get to work
Brian Smithers: wait
Brian Smithers: i dont know how to write in java
Brian Smithers: do you know how to write in java?
ototperks: i can read it
ototperks: and write in it a bit
Brian Smithers: ok
ototperks: i know the syntax pretty well
Brian Smithers: because i dont know how to write in java
Brian Smithers: at all
ototperks: i can't actually make stuff in it though
Brian Smithers: read it or write it
Brian Smithers: so lets cut this to the chase and begin our work
ototperks: currently i'm doing stuff
Brian Smithers: oh
Brian Smithers: ok
Brian Smithers: ill try to get nullable to
Brian Smithers: wait
Brian Smithers: forget
Brian Smithers: :)
Brian Smithers: :(
Brian Smithers: *
ototperks: lol
ototperks: i dont
Brian Smithers: it has a converving brick function
Brian Smithers: which is very nice
Brian Smithers: Also do you know how to make GUIs in C++
ototperks: define 'gui'
Brian Smithers: Graphical User Interface
Brian Smithers: some text boxes which we can get the value of a place to pick a location and a button
Brian Smithers: Min, Max, Save Location, Go
Brian Smithers: bam
Though he was busy at the moment, nor does he know how to make GUIs in C++, but we can easily just use command line for that. So instead of learning how to read java and converting truces script I decided to make this topic :).

I mean come on guys seriously. Look at his desktop he posted in "Post your Desktop 2"

"Okiver <3" I mean come on seriously?

He also seems to know a bit about Okiver
1337 doesn't exist like 9905 doesn't.
What's 9905?
Okiver, that's why.
and Badspot wont sell 1337 or 666.

A fine use of $20.
I think I win.

I mean I'm almost sure that this guy is Okiver.
