If you happen across two doors side-by-side while navigating the school in a crowd, please resist the urge to join the rest of them attempting to force themselves through the one open one and just open the second.

When it comes to custom paint jobs, 8BA has you covered. A backlit DMG w/ screen cover, buttons, prosound mod, and paint is easily worth what they're asking for. Just keep in mind that their selling point is the paintjob (which, from what I've heard, is very good).

If you're up for some DIY and don't want to include any mods, you can build a pretty rad unit on your own without having it painted. Here's a walkthrough I made awhile back.

Search around on Kitsch-bent and asmretro for parts you think look cool. Those ASM transparent red shells. *_*

Modding will require soldering, cutting, and drilling. It's only getting easier, though.

If you do find yourself interested in LSDJ then you should check it out. IIRC it's $2 donationware and can be very easily emulated. Emulate it first, then buy a cart to flash it to if you like it. Everyone's favorite bootleg Chinese cartridges can be pricey ($40).

From what I know so far:
Game Boy Classic (DMG) - Slower processor, but a good, bassy sound.
Game Boy Color - Faster processor, but less bassy sound apparently. Speaker upgrades and such can be bought for it as well.
GBA & GBASP are the fastest but have the worst speakers. probably not a likely candidate for LSDJ.
Don't worry about processing speed. I've only encountered minor lag maybe once or twice over the course of several years. What you do want to worry about is sound.

The most popular chipping unit is the DMG. It has that classic warm and bassy sound that we've all come to love, and when it's prosounded, it can't be beaten.

The AGB is unusable with LSDJ; navigating the software requires maneuvers that are not possible with its button layout.

My stereotypes:

DMG = classic, bassy, warm
MGB = background noise
CGB = static and background noise
AGB = unusable
AGS = cold, spacey, needs an adapter to record
OXY = bastard child that nobody ever loved

Check out this link if you want a more in-depth explanation.

I assure you that 8BitAesthetics is a reliable service and you will be getting quality products when you buy from them. Mods can be pricey but it's fair; the guys behind these stores put a lot of work in and want to give you the best service that they can.

But what 8BA has to offer might not be exactly what you need. What are you planning on using it for, Atlas? Running LSDJ? If so, what's your experience with the software? Do you really want a custom paint job? You let me know and I can help you out.

Well, it looks expensive, but then again, I see the price for gameboy colors ranging from $50-100, and usually that's for used or refurbished. I'd assume they are using new or refurbished gameboys to mod them, so it's a difference of $20-30.  If at that point it seems like a bad deal, you can try spray painting your system.  I can't guarantee you'll get an even coat on your first time ever doing it, though.
Buying either a DMG or a Color, unmodded and/or unrefurbished, for over $20 is ridiculous.

The units that they use are not new and probably not refurbished, but they are tested and pretty much guaranteed to be 100% functional.

I love your style, wehrmacht. Everything you make looks so minimal and sleek. I can't get enough of it.

Great use of color, too.

go make me another house i don't think you're working hard enough considering your wasting time making really really unhelpful posts.
