"It could've gone better. I doubt you've ever met Roger but he's not here anymore, and Matsumoto is presumably a POW now. I was one kill shy of an ace too, it would've been nice to reach 30 that way."

"Yeah, I'm still in one piece. On the topic of armour I miss the shikra already, I imagine the canopy on that thing wouldn't let a laser through to hit me. Wouldn't be surprised if that research facility scrapped it with the state I left it in."

Yui thinks about piping up and saying she's not dead, but doesn't. Still feeling like utter garbage because she's been shot down six times, she decides to try to strike up a conversation with Walter, hoping she'll feel better.
"So... what exactly happened on this one, Walt?"

"I destroyed four aircraft, and got shot. Aside from that to bluntly break it to you Roger won't be coming back anytime soon."

He pauses to look for a clock in the room and check the time

"I saw Matsumoto eject, but things sounded a bit grim when I was dazed from being hit-  I think they left her in the streets."

Walter pulls down the collar of his clothing to show the middle of his perfectly normal chest before letting it slide back up while he shifts back to his previous position in his bed

"It hit me very bluntly on my armour plate, no scar to tell the story with sadly. Just soreness in my chest."
