Wikipedia article about that guy:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michio_Kaku

This guy doesn't look like a complete idiot, but he is a theoretical scientist. I'm not saying he's completely wrong, but he seems to focus in areas of science that aren't as 'proven' yet (string theory). He might be on to something, but I don't think he's representative of scientists at large.

What you're saying about scientists being paid to lie sounds exactly like the accusations that Nasa is lying about a planet 'nibiru.' You can't just cover something up like that, there are scientists all around the world. As far as I know, most scientists do not support the 2012 doomsday scenario, if you think so, then that's because you're getting your news from the wrong place.

It's no secret that (at least in the US) major news networks contain a few elements of mass public manipulation. No we aren't being completely brainwashed or anything, and it might not even be a big deal, but there are still small elements of it there.

Salt makes the ice melt quicker, it's the same reason they put salt on the roads when it's about to snow. The thing is, in order to make the ice melt, energy must be taken from surrounding. So basically it rapidly takes energy (heat) away from the other materials for the ice cream.

We did this in the 2nd grade or so, it was the best ice cream I ever had.

I just want to add this in (not trying to push it):

If problem solving is your thing, consider engineering.

Hmm, for your needs I would definitely recommend this tablet, considering that you are able to interface with it through your hands, and not just the pen. It also is small, and good for a college environment. Go with it :)

Thanks for the reassurance, I need it :P

On another note, are these are called tablets? I thought a tablet only meant a laptop with a touch screen.

Off Topic / Touch pads (buying one)
« on: February 19, 2010, 08:45:43 PM »
I'm currently looking into buying a usb touch pad for my laptop. The two main reasons I want one are to take notes (that require drawings), do math homework and draw outlines for 2d sprites.

Here is the pad I am currently looking at: http://www.wacom.com/bamboo/bamboo_pen_touch.php

It's $99 and an alright size. My main reason for looking into this one is my dad's coworker uses this pad and a professor at my university also uses a pad from this company. This pad supports pen input and multitouch.

Does anyone have a better suggestion?

I get 'the sillies' anytime I'm browsing youtube after 12 am. Then I show the videos I find the next day and no one thinks they're funny.

I used to go to high school with Captmeat, and my other friend Gastrocnemius used to play.

Should I rebirth my character? He's almost 50 years old, and I kinda want to start fresh. Will my AP and skills still stay with me?

Have you gotten 'the old' title yet? If it comes at age 50, wait until you're 50 since you're so close. If it comes at a later age or you already have it, then yes rebirth.

Drama / Re: Athiest Ban?

I dont believe this was a perfectly fair ban, as i didnt do much to provoke it.

I'm not picking on your religious beliefs or anything but I don't know how you couldn't see that ban coming from a mile away.

I wasn't implying to actually put her down, but my dog had a cataract in her eye so this reminded me of her (not as bad as yours). I then took this as an opportunity to ramble :P

Can the dog still walk? That would be a good sign at least, when the dog has a lot of trouble moving around is when you should  worry, I think. Although, I have also have a pug right now who is pretty old and seems fine, even though he has some trouble walking.

-Flashback
This reminds me of our dog that died at age 15 or so, but I think she was in worse condition then yours (she had a tumor in her stomach and some unknown fluid building up). Basically for a year before we had to finally put her down, she wasn't able to climb stairs anymore, so she'd bark really loud when she wasn't able to get up when we went to bed. For awhile one of us would bring her upstairs but eventually we got a big pillow for her downstairs. For the last few months of her life, you could tell she was in pain and had trouble breathing.

A day before my 14th birthday, we got a call from my mom saying she was going to be put down. We went to the vet and said our goodbyes, then left the room. There was one good thing though, they had just found out about the fluid and drained it. Our dog was looking much better, she might not have even been in pain, it was a nice sight to see her in for the last time. This happened in January, a month or two later I found Blockland.

Having such a thing as liquid currency is so much more efficient than bargaining-by-tangible-goods that I can't believe anyone would be silly enough to say that liquid currency is bad.

The problem with 'liquid' currency is that it can be created from nothing, which throws things off. However, that is a completely different argument then what is being talked about in this thread.

Once again, the point is that money is not the problem, humanity is.
Then change the topic title or make this more clear.

You can not change instincts, at least not with our current technology, so what do you propose we do to fix this? Getting rid of money (which is what you are saying, or did say) will not get rid of the problem

Even if we replace our currency with something tangible, as you said, humanity is the problem. Whenever there is large demand and short supply, there will be trouble. Whenever you have large groups of people spread out across the world, there will be groups with different interests and that will lead to trouble.

Personally I'm glad we have money, I doubt we'd have the technology we have today without it. Without it, we wouldn't be able to even talk about this. We'd be living in our own separate communities and have less chance of interacting with people across the globe.

Money is a motive. Imagine a world without money; no-one would be motivated to do anything.
You're forgetting about the will to live, which will motivate more things (possibly creation of more money).
