a single-player third person shooter in which you control a character who is the backflippinest pistolwhippenest motherforgeter to ever live and every level is basically him running through a fairly large and pretty world and performing sweet acrobatics and occasionally gunplay to get from point A to point B with as much emphasis on moving extremely quickly and keeping momentum as there is just shooting dudes

admittedly, the concept is sort of like shadow the hedgehog but not stuff, but it's more inspired by gunz or s4 league except not stuff

Off Topic / Re: Does anyone actually use the Home Keys?
« on: July 24, 2013, 02:15:47 PM »
i use the home keys but i've never actually used the Home key

you know, between page up and insert?

i actually don't know what it does. same with scroll lock, and the pause/break key. which both sound pretty forthright, but don't do what i expected them to

but beyond that i only use the home keys because that's just where my fingers usually are on the keyboard in the first place and if i spot an error i usually just backspace all the way back to that point, then re-type from there (because i type fast enough to bridge any cognitive gap that would have created in the first place)

i dunno i really liked saints row

it's sort of a clusterforget and really tongue-in-cheek but the gameplay is solid, the plot gets pretty funny and the characters are tolerable at worst to fun (to mess with or otherwise) at best

like it's not a realistic crime drama but i don't know what you expected considering there is a scene where literally a stuff-ton of hookers rush a bunch of pseudo-mafia-dudes armed with nothing but a bunch of carrotbats and sheer unrelenting moxie

Creativity / Re: Pixel Art

hey no what're you doing

you can't use pixels and then make smaller pixels, that's just being lazy

i mean there's pixel art for coolness' sake and then there's pixel art because it's easy and cheap to pull off and you are doing the latter

don't stick too rigidly to the actual patterns that the game follows and try to follow the game's basic feeling

for instance his up-b could be building a floating brick platform that eventually falls away, and his side-bs could build large walls that deflect projectiles and reject movement

his A attacks could utilize extremely short-ranged projectile weapons (sort of like mega man) with the twist that you can't move most of them while firing, but they all do at least decent damage at close range and aren't necessarily the only things in his arsenal

for instance his normal A could be a fast-firing semi-automatic Gun attack, quickly racking up damage ala Falco's blaster but at much shorter range (less then maybe 3 player-widths away; essentially long melee range), then use your side-A to lash out and do damage to people caught in your barrage- i'm thinking a long swipe with a sword, like Link's side-smash but more like a poor limbless imitation

then your side-smash could be the Tier+Tactical combat shotgun- fire uncharged to do normal (but good) damage akin to Mario's side-smash and knockback and fire charged to do better damage (and knockback) closer to Snake's normal side-smash

actually what if some of blockhead's attacks were imitations based off of other character's moves, with his weapons?

what if most enemies just dropped everything they were carrying- as in literally, everything that they would be using on you- but not necessarily any of it was useful

for instance killing a goblin caused him to drop his armor and his sword, but the armor- which might be broken in the fight, fallout 2 style anyway- is too small for human use and the sword is barely even considered a weapon compared to the professional, smithed weapons that are available back at town and both are basically just vendor trash

Drama / Re: CAN WE STOP WITH THIS DEDICATED SERVER stuff ALREADY
« on: July 16, 2013, 01:54:54 AM »
what bugs me is that dedicated servers usually don't maintain after the host has left

servers usually have a 'spool-up' time during which players won't join because there aren't enough players in the server (in other words, it's not currently popular enough), and during that point in time you usually have to go tell people that the server is up or otherwise advertise that you are hosting

after you break 4 or 5 players, the server gets high enough on the server list for players to see it immediately and go 'oh hey _______'s server is up i will join it' and then you'll consistently have a server with players in it

but the trick is, there's actually two thresholds; the first one is waiting for someone to join the server in the first place (presumably out of boredom). that can take forever to break

nondedicated servers have the advantage that the first person is the host, so that's an entire threshold down and there's also someone actively trying to get the server advertised so it can build a playerbase. without the host being present you've basically got a dead server.

Suggestions & Requests / Re: A better weapon system & suggestions
« on: July 16, 2013, 01:36:32 AM »
team fortress and blockland aren't the same game

blockland is almost unique in how far it is toward the projectile scale then it is the hitscan scale and that's why the combat system is so fun

assuming an element of one game will help with no modification in another is just another fallacy. you gotta think about how that would change the game and how well that would mesh with the assets that you (or i guess in this case others) have created for it

Drama / Re: "/support"

And Count is right, it's like the kids of the drama board just fish for stuff to bitch and moan about.  It's like a competition to make up new complaints.

Take a walk outside and get some fresh air Bushido, sounds like you really need it.

It doesn't bother anyone. People just want something to complain about. It's like when you hear jets above your house everyday or traffic around where you live and get used to it, then somebody brings it up and says "that is so annoying, how do you live with those sounds around you?!" Then you and everyone around begin to notice the noise, and get annoyed as well.

if i were looking for something to complain about just for the sake of complaining then i would pick a fight with someone specifically just for the argument

that way at least the conversation would feed upon itself and snowball

i'm genuinely mad that people have created a shorthand that has been not only misused wildly but it's also so widespread that entire topics are post after post of the same thing with no progress toward any goal or resolution and i think it should stop because it isn't actually helpful

and i'm so sorry if that's somehow symptomatic of me being a shut-in. seriously, what the forget

I don't know, I can't say I agree.
It's not like there's a limited amount of replies a topic can receive.
If people want to just pop in to say "good job OP" or "just wanted to let you know someone agrees with ya buddy" I don't get why that's a bad thing. If they really do agree, then there's nothing more to elaborate on.

if you wanted to tell OP that you actually backed him up you would say something more involved

like /support is practically an emoticon, it's completely devoid of expression beyond 'i agree'. it's got no precision but people fill threads with it anyway
