I totally agree with you; Christian's views on gay marriage is completely forgeted up, but not all Christians adopt this state of mind, and not all atheists choose to butcher Christians beliefs. I guess both these atheists and Christians who believe gay marriage is wrong both have ignorance in common. Do you think that more Christians tend to shove their religion down other people's throats than atheist's ideas?it's more of an inherent problem with how christians and atheists separately develop: a vast majority of christians, and in fact most popular world religions, are inherited. you grow up with it, you adopt it, it's forced to you. whereas with atheism, many either begin with religious backgrounds, or are brought up without any inherent belief and do their own research. it's sort of the same situation as kids having been abused being abusers themselves, the process recycles over time.
