The purpose of agent orange was to kill crops and cause southern Vietnamese farmers to move to the cities. As a result many slums were erected around the cities. While napalm was effective at clearing forests, it was also dropped near or on villages. So if you are living in southern Vietnam and your village was burned down and you are living in a big stinky slum, I am sure you would have thoughts about joining the Vietkong. Plus agent orange is still causing problems in Vietnam for people such birth defects, contaminated forests and water sources, shorter life spans, contaminated wildlife, ect.
i know this. i studied the vietnam war (remember the january 1969 thread)
but we're not talking about the affects of these two weapons, we're talking about how the airforce contributed to vietnam.
napalm, strafing runs, targeted ordnance, dropping of agent orange, etc.

going back to what you said earlier, about the north vietnamese being a more civilized military, their air force was stuff in comparison, poorly trained pilots inside advanced aircraft calls for bad air superiorty and air-to-ground support.

Why hasn't the army been separated from the government yet? Why are they still wasting money on it?
i'm going to rephrase this statement the best way i can.
"Why hasn't the army been put under civilian leadership?" answer: because our government is civilians leadership. or supposed to be.

Their attacks were devastating to North Vietnamese forces which fought conventionally. The Vietkong used guerilla tactics. Your squad walks into a town and a woman throws a grenade at you, You patrol the jungle and get shot at through the bushes, step on a booby trap, ect. The North on the hand used tanks, infantry, and aircraft just like us. Plus they had a pretty big sam and flak gun network. Often they turned off radar when Wild Weasel squadrons were spotted, then turned them back on to shoot SAMs at any electronic counter measure planes and bombers.
but delivery of agent orange and napalm was carried out by the airforce to help fight against guerrilla forces. not to mention general ordnance.

Meh airforce takes jobs away. "Lets do what we did in Nam' and take boots off the ground and convince the rest of the military that is this is a good idea. We will just focus on the sky with our expensive drones." Plus you can only get so much done with drones, troops and pilots have more longevity and don't require electricity or internet to function.
last time i checked the airforce had a huge impact in vietnam

I don't mean to say that I know history better than the New York Times, but 1940 wasn't pre-world war II...
it's before the united states declared war.

just think of someone doing that to something like an early vintage museum-quality AK47 or a pedersen device
forget
it's a loving disgrace. i seriously would shoot whoever would do that to a piece of historic value.
