so i assume a i5-4430 and gtx 750 ti will be good? maybe i should get a 660 later.

660 is a generation behind. If you want to push your machine to the next level, its best to save up your money and get a REALLY REALLY good GPU to leave upgradability to 4K eventually. Say, the GTX 780 Ti, which is a $700 card. Why such a loving expensive card? ..Because the CPU isnt nearly as important as the GPU for gaming, which is why for a truly great machine you pretty much need to dump half your budget on the GPU. I am serious about this. In this case for now, 300/2 = $150. a 750 Ti. You'd need an adequate PSU to run better GPUs, but that might only set you back $100 if you choose the right PSU, maybe even less.

And I do mean really really good; preferably getting a larger resolution monitor with that.

Though, you should wait, because the 800 series is around the corner.

3 gigs is not enough for BF4, and the RAM he has is really slow. Since DDR3 RAM isn't going to be produced for much longer it's best to upgrade ASAP rather than having to deal with the inflated prices later.

If he closes out of everything before gaming he can game a bit but I agree 3GB is kind of restricting.

Its recommended he upgrade both his RAM and his CPU this christmas.

do u think i can oc the i5 to play some more games?

Not without a better cooler. The i5 is more sensitive to overclocking and you have a larger risk of damaging it without adequate cooling. Plus, most of all, you will shorten its lifespan.

It'll be fine if you play on low settings for some games but you really really cannot game on integrated graphics.

Maybe you should go with the G3258 + GTX 750 Ti and get the i5 for christmas, that would be what I'd recommend. You'd just have to deal with the stuttering and turn down the graphics sometimes.

I changed the case also, you should like this new case. Its also the same price, but the initial cost ($350) went up a bit. Still, after rebates, it is still below $300. Hoping maybe your uncle will cover the extra $60 in exchange for getting those rebates when they come so you can get the PC.

alright, but why 750 ti?

A number of reasons to choose the 750 Ti vs its AMD counterpart the R7 265X. Less power and cooler operation (which is the greener choice since they perform identically), plus depending on the 750 ti brand you don't need a power connector.

what about getting an i5 and dealing with the integrated graphics for now? i can get the gtx 750 ti later? say for christmas?

If you can ensure that you will get the money to get a GPU for Christmas it might be best to go that route.

its a h18 though, i still cant OC?

No, you need a Z97 to overclock, and unless you can get a z97 board for ~$50, the budget wont happen.

The performance you get even when OC isnt available is still not bad for stock, since games mainly rely upon the GPU though, so its a m00t point.

i think this may work pretty well. lemme see benchmarks.

nope, the G3258 is better. also the case you suggested randomness: i cant put a new heatsink in it later; too small.

You wont be able to overclock since the mobo had to be cut in price, but if you upgrade later on, you can squeeze more performance out of the chip.

i forgot to ask, but what about air flow? that case looks very minuscule.

also this has the same specs

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ORj1lT5_EAQ

Case comes with 1 80mm fan and 1 120mm fan, can be replacable if you so desire.

You can add a fan to the side grill if you want to increase the in-take.

you can get windows for cheap from /r/softwareswapif you say you're sorry for something when you still have the chance to fix the thing you were "apologizing" for, you aren't actually sorry, so what's the point in saying it

Definitely a life saver. Shop there for your windows key and, I'm gonna quote myself again from a post I said before,

...
And here is a completed build (http://pcpartpicker.com/p/3KBFD), minus the OS since you probably have a key that you can use on your current OS so you can download a factory ISO (THIS IS NOT PIRACY since its the product key that Microsoft wants) for your respective version and just use your current key again (make sure you get a clean image from a reputable source such as microsoft.com, such as here http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-windows_install/where-can-i-download-windows-7-iso-i-have-a/7d964b05-2be9-4800-bc7f-3ca30356fc3d, scroll down for Home Premium and MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A LEGITIMATE PRODUCT KEY, OTHERWISE IT IS PIRACY!), but if you still want a physical copy of Windows (and/or dont have Windows 7), Windows 7 Home Premium is about $80. ...

I made it happen, but you're gonna have to find a way to take care of both storage and the OS since Windows isnt free. Unless, of course.. you migrate to Linux. Thats one way of forgetting about the cost of Windows. And you can forget about me endorsing pirating Windows OS, so that is straight out the window. ha did you see the pun I made

Perhaps Mint Linux for easy user experience.

Oh, and its $300 after rebates. Its $350 before, maybe somebody can help you cover the cost and give them the rebates when you get the money back. I'm sure somebody might help you there.

i seriously dont have any income. i dont own a lawnmower anymore and i dont know what else i could do.

This is really a problem, because you cant get the rebates before you purchase, meaning you'd need to drop more money than initially priced before you get the rebates back.

And I, for one, just cant find myself recommending AMD because of ethical reasons regarding power consumption and the planet and yadda yadda.

I never said prebuilt, but I guess I should have been clearer.

Also that's what we've been trying to do. This is basically a completely new PC with only 1 or 2 migrations from the old PC (the RAM and DVD Drive which can be replaced later)

Also, please for the love of god find a way to increase the budget. $300 cant make a PC worth your money. If it is something like $450, we'd be able to do it, mostly because you have to pay for the OS again, not necessarily anything with the hardware.
