What I just don't really understand is this culture of certain blocklanders that just stuff on the game and have become so anti-blockland yet still play?

Like if you don't like blockland any more, just give it up. Badspot has kept the game running mostly fine for ten plus years, there's nothing more to be done. Let's enjoy it for what it is: a pretty decent Lego simulation of its time.

And not to beat a dead horse, but terrain added nothing that bricks couldn't replace. Just look at all the speedkart maps that people make these days. They work (mostly) fine and if bricks alone aren't enough, like I said in that post kalph called me out on two years ago: use the static shape mod and import your map that way. It looks and works loads better than the original interiors and terrains ever did.

Blockland isn't a perfect game by any stretch but boy if it isn't still just as fun as it was for me ten years ago to just boot it up and build stuff, which, if that's not the point of a Lego game, what else is there?
3  Off Topic / Off Topic / There was a blockland subreddit and I got drama'd on there apparently on: May 01, 2018, 09:04:50 PM
This isn't really a drama post as I don't actively wish to call out Kalphiter for this, and my main interest lies with the subreddit, however:

https://www.reddit.com/r/BlocklandIsHorrible/comments/42ezq1/swhollis_post_about_interiors_and_terrain/?st=jgoilv8c&sh=23f96602

I was just googling my name (trying to see if I could find any internet stuff I made pre-2010) and on the second page of results, there was that.

So, like, firstly, this is the like the third time a drama topic was made about me (this time on another site altogether) and I never even saw it. This shows how little I care about what any of you think about me.

Secondly, holy stuff the last update to the subreddit was four months ago? A long time ago, sure, but relatively speaking it's not at all. The drama post about me is two years old for scale.

I'm not going to post this to drama because this is a topic more aimed at discussing the blockland subreddit I didn't even know existed, but I will say this:

Kalphiter, if you're even still on this site, why not have the BALLS to call me out on main??!!

tl;dr bl subreddit for a bunch of whiny babies /discuss

Swholli used to do a lot of voicing for me but he stopped being available.

This is fake news I was doing literally nothing in 2013.

Every time this thing comes back into circulation I always get a small ping of nostalgia.

>anything to do with icy interviewing people from blockland

this actually went down pretty nicely. i've done an episode of blockland on air and late night blockland? (question mark because i forgot what it was called), but when he did invite me to these things they went down beautifully. i wish this sort of thing existed now but with non-blockland subjects too. (MAYBE I SHOULD DO IT!!!!!)

He did an interview with me about Block Wars and BEE. I will admit, for everything it was worth, the blockland talk show thing was actually not a terrible idea, me and hodot kind of did the same thing with the brockrand podcast a few years back. I'd totally be about bringing that idea back somehow- just get a bunch of the prevalent users together and shoot the stuff, not necessarily blockland related but with that being a through line.

Shame Block Wars cut that scene out and was made too late.

In fairness I cut the Jawa scene due to time and relevancy to the plot. I really just needed 3P0 and R2 to get to Luke and I always felt the entire Jawa sequence I had written for the 2009 version was a little bloated and not a lot to parody.

I also cut the trash compactor scene for the same reasons.

However, on topic, this sandcrawler looks sick, if I were to ever "special edition" Block Wars I'd consider writing in some more Jawa stuff just to include this bad boy.

I know this is a repost from the official topic but I'm putting it here as a quote text for those who don't frequent general discussion:

That's right, as of this Friday, December 22nd, 2017, Block Wars will have officially turned 10 years old:

Now I dunno about you, but that's actually kinda loving scary and reminds of my inevitable mortalityreally cool!

So, how are we going to celebrate this monumental occasion? This Friday, around 11am EST to 11pm EST (ALL DAY) I'm going to be throwing up a live stream on my blockalnd channel (youtube.com/swhollibl) where we're going to hang out, talk about block wars, star wars (last jedi spoilers probably), and you're going to get to see behind the scenes the filming of the battle of hoth! I'll show you how I shoot scenes, how I edit, and how I pretty much coerced all these people into helping me make these stupid movies!

Mark your calendars! May the 4th December the 22nd be with you.

I've been experimenting with an idea for a topdown shooter- fast paced, very much inspired by cool online flash games from 2005 (xgen studios)- and I've come to a point in my prototype I'd like some feedback.

So as I have it now, the camera follows the mouse crosshair (it being in the center), and the corsshair can never move more than something like two times as far as the player (the player sprite is 32x32, so the cursor can only move the camera up to 64 pixels away from that). The reason I did this is because in a lot of top down shooters I always feel like my camera never shows me enough of the screen to get an accurate shot.

The problem is, this method also feels pretty disorienting. I'd like some input from you guys if you have any about how I might go and fix this problem or if I should just scrap the idea all together.

Here's a playable demo: http://swholli.com/games/topdown/

EDIT: I fixed the camera! I was using a far too linear method, jumping the camera's x and y coordinates in a square instead of a smoother way that creates a boundary radius the camera can travel on. The demo now shows the more fluid system in action if you care to check.

Sorry to have to use exploits to keep this thread alive, we've just been busy planning the movie.

I've finished the script officially, Cowboy has modeled an ingame, functioning ATAT (if you've seen the production topic), and I've slowly gotten all the voice actors to contribute their full parts. We've shot some scenes but none that are enough to cobble a trailer together. As soon as I have one though I'll post it immediately.

All BLC members, if you have any ideas for smaller videos you want help with, let me know. We could always stand to have some little projects going during our large ones so this topic (and clan) doesn't need necro bumping again.
