Off Topic / Gas Prices [We're in a freefall]
« on: October 22, 2014, 12:29:01 PM »
Gas is falling ever more. Missouri is going to fall below the $2 mark any day now. Using GasBuddy, the lowest regular ethanol price is $2.11/gal. The news is advertising some BP stations with gas at $1.99 with purchase of car wash.

Quote from: Old OP, if relevant to anyone
In the area where I live, gas is the lowest I've seen in half a decade. Just the other day, they were on average down to $2.59, but I saw $2.52 at another station and $2.39 with car wash.

Much better than the $3.29 - $3.99 we had to live with before. Can't imagine California.

Off Topic / Apparently, Drake Bell was at my school [I have a pic]
« on: October 09, 2014, 09:54:42 AM »
From that Nick show, Drake & Josh.

My school is having an assembly and he is going to be performing (I'm not going). I watched the show back when we had Dish Network, but that ship sailed in 2007-08. From what I'm hearing around here, the show still has some sort of bandwagon, because excitement is really high.

A friend of mine posted this of Facebook.

Off Topic / Ice pack experts needed
« on: September 26, 2014, 10:58:45 AM »
I hate having lunch at school but I need one on Fridays because of crap scheduling. I'm don't have deposits into my lunch account because a) I almost never eat lunch at school b) The system is hokey and c) Lunch at school is more expensive than bringing my own.

Anyway, the problem: I reached into my lunch bag and my hand is covered in slimy blue gel. The bathrooms don't have paper towels (only dryers) and I can't get toilet paper due to occupied stalls. I use notebook paper to get it off, but my food is covered in the contents of the ice pack. Now I have to skip lunch and I didn't eat breakfast.

I'm currently wondering how I'm going to clean it up when I get home though. I need a way to wash it out and I don't know if it is safe to go down into the drains/septic tank. I'd use a hose, but I also don't know if it is a great idea to wash it into the ground and possibly killing the grass.

Off Topic / My grandmother fractured a vertebra in her back
« on: September 18, 2014, 04:19:19 PM »
My mom told me when I was leaving school that my grandmother had to be taken to the ER from being hurt while exercising. Just a little while ago, my mom got an update that she fractured one of the vertebrae in her lumbar spine and is in a lot of pain. Recovery will take about eight weeks. She is still rather "young" though relatively speaking. Its not like I have an 80 year old frail grandmother who will be confined to a nursing home.

Nevertheless, I hope she gets better soon.

Off Topic / Yosher is putting things in my shower
« on: September 17, 2014, 09:09:46 PM »
It only makes sense.

I actually took my entire shower with knowledge that this little critter was in there with me. I noticed it after my hair was wet and didn't want to have to track water around looking for something to get it with so I just finished, measured it, and killed it.

Now that the weather has gotten cooler, my house too has been overrun by spiders. They have been found in every shower in the house and in various other places like under baseboards and under beds. I also found my cat playing with a centipede. We may have to pest-bomb the house for all the unwanted guests seeking refuge from the incoming cold weather.

Basically, the principal won't sell Chick-Fil-A sandwiches because the deceased owner and his [current president] son don't approve of gay rights/marriage, even though 200 free sandwiches were offered to the school for their event. I really don't think this is going to ease tension between the issue.

Off Topic / Nearly had my first car accident....with the fuzz
« on: September 06, 2014, 01:51:26 PM »
That's right. I was almost involved in a car accident with a police car. PLOTTWIST: It was the cop's fault. It was also my first time ever driving out by myself.

My parents and three of my sisters were out at a barn exercising our horse. I had already dropped off my brother and other sister at their gun safety/shooting sports class about five or six miles down the road. It was about 11:00am and they were done so I left to go pick them up. I was on Highway BB towards Hillsboro, MO. The speed limit is literally a limit, because it would probably be pretty tough to hit 55mph on the winding two-lane road with no shoulder and rock faces and dropoffs on either side.

I was going probably anywhere between 40 and 50 and saw a car gaining behind me. As he got closer, I saw that it was a brown unmarked Crown Victoria interceptor. It didn't have a spotlight, but it did have the Missouri State Highway Patrol license plates. He eventually began riding up on my bumper (to the point of tailgating), but I ignored him.

As I drove for about ten minutes, I saw my turn approaching, which was a small field next to a water treatment plant. Next to it was a line of about four baseball fields. There was a good 400ft left before I flicked my turn signal and began to gradually slow down. As my wheels began to go to the right to make the turn, I heard a loud screech and a blaring horn (he clearly wasn't paying attention). I instantly looked in the mirror and saw smoke pouring from the police car's tires as he was sliding towards me. I hit the gas hard to get out of the turn and he continued past me. A guy who was leaving the field in his truck was looking at the police car like "What the hell was that?" and started laughing.

After I picked up my brother and sister, I went back over the area and their were deep black tire marks crossing the center line. I don't think many people can say that the first time they drove by themselves that they were almost hit by a police car.

Off Topic / XR_7 gets stuck in the road [screw everything] [Low-qual PICS]
« on: September 03, 2014, 10:52:13 PM »
Um....yeah. Good news that was cancelled out by ugly news.

My dad took his old commuter out to be inspected. If it passes, I will have a car to drive depending on which one my dad chooses to drive to work.

Good news: The car passed inspection.

Ugly news: The car broke down less than a block from the inspection place and was stuck holding up traffic.

Let's start from the beginning.

My dad has been working on his old commuter car (2001 Ford Focus) for a while now trying to make it suitable to drive so he can either start using it again so he isn't piling miles on his newer car or so I can drive to work and school. Yesterday, he took it to a tire shop so that they could get it inspected. It drove perfectly on the way there and it worked perfectly for them, allowing it to pass the inspection test.

Skip to this afternoon. My mom was lying on the couch exhausted and didn't want to go with my dad to pick up the car, so I went along with him to drive the van back home (also to be my first time driving on a road by myself) while he drove his car from the tire shop.

My dad pulled out of their parking lot and I followed him. We went through a stop sign, turned right, and stopped in the left turn lane at a stop light. When the green arrow appeared, my dad didn't move forward. Instead, he flipped on his hazards.

Uh oh.

I looked behind me and saw a gray Saturn behind me so I just turned on my hazards too so they'd go around. My dad got out and told me that the car died and wouldn't start. I didn't want to sit in the turn lane so I drove in reverse for half a block down the street and parked in an empty gravel/grass lot. My dad pushed the car to the shoulder and left it there and came to the van to think of options.

We eventually had to call AAA and have them find us a tow truck. A tow truck didn't turn up until almost an hour and a half later. They freaking drove 45 miles to come find us. The truck carried the car home which is now sitting in its same spot in the driveway where it has been sitting for the past several months.

Back to square 1.

About time you got here:

Dropping the car back home.

Just 6-10mi to the north. I don't know how big it is but I've been waiting for good storms for a long time now. Thunder is intensifying and my back screen door is creaking.

Oh the adrenaline yeeeeees

Edit: Tornado Warning has now been dropped as the dangerous part of the storm has left the area.

Help / Where are my screenshots being saved?? Slayer issue or not?
« on: August 31, 2014, 05:08:19 PM »
So after Zapk likely put the malicious code into Slayer, I lost all my screenshots. Not a big deal, since most of the ones I cared about were either in imgur or copied elsewhere.

But I tried taking screenshots earlier today (on Greek2Me's server...which has Slayer) and when i just now tried to retrieve them from the screenshots folder within its parent Blockland folder, there are only default ones in there.

Can I no longer save screenshots, or are they being saved elsewhere?

Off Topic / Omaha Tragedy - "Cops" employee killed in shootout
« on: August 27, 2014, 10:30:11 PM »
http://www.latimes.com/nation/nationnow/la-na-nn-cops-tv-show-crew-member-dies-20140827-story.html

Well, the forums are fighting about guns now so I may as well toss a wild card. I saw this on the news this morning. From what I've read and heard, an armed robber was reported. When the police (as well as the "Cops" reality show TV crew) responded, the suspect began firing. The cops reportedly couldn't and didn't have time to decide if he had a real gun and killed the suspect, but the audio manager, Bryce Dion, was also hit, and he later died. He was wearing a bulletproof vest.

"Whatcha gonna do when the gun's on you?"

Die. Don't be in the wrong place at the wrong time.
