Games / I created a new Boom Beach task force [The Block Squad, increased to 10 members]

Title says all. I'm not really all that fond of my current task force so I'm considering dumping them and creating my own. I'm not going to do that until I can get at least four other people besides me to join it though. The task force will be open to all players and I ask for players who at least semi-actively play the game.

I'll accept anybody regardless of experience, victory points, or HQ level. I am a level 49 player with HQ Level 17. If you want to join, just comment in the thread and feel free to recruit your friends regardless of playing Blockland or not. I also don't have a name for a task force either so feel free to submit ideas.

Went ahead and created the task force. It is called "The Block Squad". My name is XR_7. It is open to anyone for now and limited to five players. I'll happily increase the member count if I need to do so.

Fun fact: It took me 869 days to get 20,000 posts, which is an average of 23.015 posts per day. For comparison, Maxwell is at 20.666 posts per day, therefore making me faster.

As some of you know from a couple weeks ago, I landed a job at Walgreens because my Hardee's job was barely giving me any hours at all (5-10 hours a week). I was planning to work both jobs  part-time which, from the looks of my Walgreens hiring conditions and my expectation of Hardee's hours, appeared to add up to approximately 25 hours a week.

Backstory: I've worked at Hardee's since June 2015 with a rough average of 20 hours a week (frequent variances) but the store recently got chewed out by the DM (district manager) and had to cut hours on people, hence the sudden decline in my hours. By coincidence, right when my hours were docked I got the call from Walgreens requesting an interview in response to an application I sent in May 2015 (~8 months wait...?). I went to the interview and got the job on the condition that I would work weekends for Walgreens and a few weekdays at Hardee's, so I went and talked to my GM about it. She was getting all antsy about me saying that they wanted me weekends because that's when I worked the most hours at Hardee's, so I told her that I'd see if I could work something out.

I did work something out. I managed to pull some strings with Walgreens so that they would work me weekdays and let Hardee's have as many weekends as they wanted. I even told Hardee's that they could put me down for a couple weekdays as well. I stayed in frequent contact with Walgreens and my Hardee's GM so that they would know what days that I work and at what location.

Now we get to today: the week that I am supposed to begin my actual paid work with Walgreens. I decided to drive over to Hardee's to pick up my schedule for this week as well as to grab some discounted food before heading home. I didn't see my GM there but I saw her car parked outside. I looked at the schedule and to my dismay, she had me working 37.5 hours this week every single day only omitting the two days that I said I worked at Walgreens. I have never once worked a schedule that long in my lifetime and on top of that, never had a .5 hour either. I'm guessing that this is because 38 hours is counted as the full-time threshold and she's trying to work as hard and long as she can without letting me have full-time benefits. On top of that, I am a full-time college student with 14 active credit hours. There is literally no space for any sort of possible homework because most of my shifts start right after my final class ends.

This 37.5 hours of Hardee's plus my hours at Walgreens could be putting me somewhere near 50 hours of work this week plus 15 hours of class time plus 25 hours of commuting time plus ~45-50 hours of sleep. There are 168 hours in a week so you can see where that puts me. Saving all of my homework for Saturday morning and Sunday evening won't work, because I have deadlines this week as well as a research paper due next Monday AS WELL AS a speech to give in class this coming Wednesday.

No idea what I'm going to do now. I don't want to quit my job at Hardee's because it's my primary source of income (even with the piss poor wages). I don't want to quit Walgreens because they pay more than Hardee's ever will and I need to save money so I can move out of state next semester.

On top of that, my GM told me the other day, word for word, that, "You either have a first priority job, or you have one job." I'm feeling rather intimidated right now because I'm starting to sense some sort of aggression here. I'm supposed to be working as a part-time worker as a full-time college student with two sources of income, and she's only trying to make it harder for me out of spite.

Games / theHunter - New Guest Experience + Free Stuff!

I don't really expect much of BLF to be interested in this, but a quick search showed multiple topics for this game that I've been playing constantly. If you are not a patient person, this game is not for you.

theHunter is a game focused on a realistic hunting experience. Featuring 10 massive open world environments (and I'm talking multiple km² here on each map), you must try and locate animals in order to kill and harvest them. All animals (with the exception of female deer and female elk) have a score attributed to them in order to show off your personal bests and enroll in competitions where the highest scoring animal wins.

Animals also vary in behavior. Some respond to man-made calls or scents and will approach the area where they heard the call. Some are very stupid and aren't bothered much my human presence. Others will run away as soon as they smell or see you (coyotes, foxes, bears, etc). Some animals will even viciously attack you if cornered or if you get too close (bears, moose, bison, reindeer, feral hogs, wild boars). Some animals (such as birds), cannot smell you at all but make up for it in good eyesight.

Animals will spook and run away due to several causes. Some may run if they see you (most animals have rather poor eyesight, but coyotes, foxes, turkeys, etc will run if they see movement). Some will run if they catch a whiff of you, so stay downwind (check wind direction with wind indicator or just watch which way leaves fall from trees). All animals will run if they hear gunshots (gunshots will generally scare off every animal within render distance) or footsteps (especially when running).

Although this game is free to play as a guest and for using tutorials, it is not free. Like TF2 to some extent, you have the option to purchase new items with real dosh (real money is converted to in-game "em$"). Unlike TF2, some of those items are required for a few missions. Therefore, you couldn't continue with those missions until you buy the item and make use out of it. Completing missions will reward you with in-game credits known as "gm$", which are mainly used for buying consumable items (camping supplies for instant travel to campsites or tents, climbing rope for ascending steep cliffs, scents for luring animals, wind indicators for checking which way the wind blows, etc).

Until this week, guests (aka people who don't spend money on the game) were only given the .243 Bolt Action Rifle with unlimited ammo and were generally only allowed to hunt Mule Deer, which are only found on the Logger's Point map (although as a guest, you can visit any map you want). They were also given a .357 pistol, but no ammunition. That has been completely changed now. Today, guests can now hunt whitetail deer, pheasants, cottontail rabbits, and European rabbits. Mule deer will be phased out on February 03 but can still be hunted by guests until then before requiring a license. Guests are also given a .243 Bolt Action rifle with unlimited replenishable ammo, a 12 gauge single shot shotgun with unlimited replenishable birdshot (for hunting birds and rabbits), buckshot (deer, fox, coyote, other mid-size game), and slugs (large deer, bears, pigs, other big game EXCLUDING bison), and maybe even the .357 pistol (although I'm not sure on that one). Should a guest purchase the basic membership ($9.99 for 3 months), they'll be able to hunt every single animal on all reserves except for bison (only because that needs a bigger gun).

I could include a lot more, but I'm done typing.

I have been constantly getting a call from a number with a 405 area code (Oklahoma City area) and it won't stop trying to contact me. I ignored it the first two times because it called me while I was at work, but it just called me a few minutes ago and I decided to answer. I could hear some movement on the other end but the person didn't speak. They hung up after 8 seconds. I ran the number through a Google search. I'm seeing some sources claiming that it's a marketing call but there are other people who had the caller hang up not long after they answered their phones. I never found any sort of business to which it could belong.

Ad Bot is trying to convince us to stop playing Blockland and to take up Minecraft. I never thought I'd see the day. This is like seeing posters advertising Target inside Wal-Mart.

I've lost all faith in Ad Bot, and I suggest that everyone else do the same.

I've set up a job interview at Walgreens for this Sunday at 3:00. I applied at this location like....8 months ago and they just decided to contact me now. It really seems like a blessing in disguise because my manager at Hardee's has recently been forced to start cutting hours on us. I'm only working 7 hours this week on 15 cents below minimum wage....

I plan on continuing employment at Hardee's so if I get this job, I'll be working two jobs along with my weekday mornings of college classes. Just like in the last thread, I asked if anyone would want to donate some lucks to me and it apparently worked. I remember I asked for 20 lucks but you guys went all out and gave me like 80 or something and I needed to bring like four jars of lucks with me to the interview. If you donate enough lucks, I might get the job.

Sidenote: This Walgreens is literally across the street from Hardee's where I work.

Off Topic / I need help troubleshooting my ASUS tablet (problem solved?)

I'm pretty much just posting this here because I know there are a lot of tech nerds on these forums and the ASUS website is not recognizing my tablet model (K013) so I can't look up troubleshooting from there.

This morning, I discovered that my tablet was having problems. I had been finding it completely powered down a few times this week which struck me as odd, but I thought nothing of it. Today, I found it off again, so I held down the power button to turn it on. However, it stopped on the loading screen, like so:



It just says "ASUS: In Search of Incredible" and features a little rotating loading icon. Although this is normal on start-up, it won't go past this screen to a functional touchscreen with my unlock screen. It's not totally frozen or anything, since the loading icon still moves. The few times that I've managed to get it to my touchscreen, it will work totally fine for a few minutes before crashing and trying to restart itself again, once again stopping the reboot on the loading screen.

I figured I could try a few things. I've tried wiping a few consuming apps that I didn't use anymore (got rid of almost 1GB worth of apps). Just a few minutes ago, I started downloading a 573MB system update hoping for some help, which is currently at 9% as of this post.

Now comes the alarming part. I usually keep my tablet inside a trashy velvet case with magnets in it that trigger the screen to turn on and off when I open/close the flap. In order to take pictures of it, I removed it from the sleeve and turned it over. I was surprised with what I saw:



I don't know how well you can tell as this was taken by my piece of crap phone camera, but the back of the tablet is darkened and discolored in splotches. Thing is, I can't tell why it is like that. Perhaps it is something as simple as the white coloring being rubbed off from movement within the case. Perhaps it is something more serious such as it could've gotten hot and melted something inside the tablet or something leaked in there. I don't even know if it's a problem at all, but I'm alarmed to find out about this right when I start having repeated issues with it.

Any ideas on stuff I can do? System update is now up to 22% and it hasn't tried restarting itself.

Off Topic / Missing dead man discovered in the parking lot where I work

He was still here when I got to work this afternoon too. He was apparently reported missing sometime last night and he was discovered dead in his truck early this morning from a heroin overdose. When I got to work at 3:00PM, the truck and the body were still there and state troopers were all over the place, followed by a coroner, investigators, the family of the dead man, and a tow truck to take the truck away. My manager wouldn't let any of us watch them transfer the body to the coroner's van so don't ask.

I'm wondering if this will appear on the news, so I probably won't tell my family about it yet. My mom would probably freak out lol. The man's parents and brothers all visited the scene and were totally beside themselves, not only from the death but also because they apparently moved here trying to escape easy access to heroin because they already had lost one child to it. This guy who died was 27.

So at work, a guy stole the cookies that I baked and my manager caught him on camera. Hardee's sells cookies for 89 cents a piece and it was my first batch that I made. We have a plastic display case on the front counter where we store a maximum of six cookies as well as apple turnover display boxes.

Anyway, about 20 minutes after I left work, this guy wearing a bright orange hoodie with an undecipherable logo on his back was just standing by the counter with his hands in his pockets. I have no idea why no one saw him because the girl on drive thru, the shift manager, and one of the line cooks were still there. He seemed to wait and look around to see if anyone was watching, and then he reached around the display case, opened the door on the back, and snatched a cookie and placed it in his pocket. He looked around again, grabbed another, and then stepped back. Next, he grabbed some apple turnover boxes, but realized they were just empty display boxes, so he took another cookie. This time however, he knocked a stack of coffee cups and a box of coupons onto the floor so he went speedwalking out the door. He got in his white Dodge Ram, and then this cheeky guy goes through the drive thru. Going through our recordings, he said that he bought a burger with a coupon that was supposed to give him a medium drink for free, but he never got the drink. When prompted, he couldn't turn up a receipt for proof, and he drove away.

Blocklander of the Year 2015

Ha, you guys thought I was gonna forget, didn't you?

Since 2013, this has been an annual thing. This will be the third round of BLoY considering that there has been a phenomenal amount of participation in the past. Both years have had their share of problems as well as humor, and I expect that it will happen again this year.
Synopsis

In the Blocklander of the Year competition, all forum users may participate in nominating who they think deserves to be the best Blockland user of the year. Your reason for a nomination does not matter. Did the person release an unforgettable, game-changing add-on? Did the person resolve a big argument? Did the person tie your shoes when you couldn't? Each user has a capstone limit of five nominations, all of which will be anonymously stored by me until poll time (usually sometime around mid-December). All nominations will reach the polls, even if they only have one nomination. The polls will decide which users are worthy enough to reach the semi-finals, of which there are multiple rounds. The four winners of the semi-finals will advance to a single final poll. The winner of that poll will win the 2015 title.

Q. I have had my ability to PM revoked. Can I still nominate users?
A. Yes. If at all possible, please try to contact me via Steam. If you do not have Steam or prefer to not go to the trouble of it, then I guess you can post your nominations in the thread. However, should you need your nominations edited or found for some other reason, it will be very difficult for me to find them again.

Q. Am I required to nominate five users?
A. No. Five is your limit, not your requirement.

**(ADDED 11/27)** Q. Can I nominate a user multiple times?
A. Yes, but I don't know why you would do that. A person with 10 nominations is just as likely to get into the polls as someone with only 1 nomination.

Q. I just thought of a user more deserving of the title but already maxed out my nominations. Can I swap out one of submitted nominations for a new one?
A. Absolutely, as long as nominations are still opened. Once again, I prefer that this is done over PM or on Steam so that I am sure to address the situation. However, you may not change your nomination(s) once the polls have begun.

Q. How do you resolve tiebreakers?
A. If I end a poll and the winner is a two (or more) way tie, then I will hold a shortened poll at a later date between the tied users and the winner of that poll will move to the next round.

Q. How do you decide who appears in what poll and with whom?
A. All polls are set up completely randomly using a website that randomly draws names for me. I have no say in who goes where whatsoever.

Q. The user that I want to nominate is banned and has either left or is serving a sentence, but is not ban-on-sight. Can I still nominate them?
A. Yes, as long as they've been on the forums or in game sometime during the year.

Q. Most of the users nominated are from the forums. Why don't you call this "Forumer of the Year"?
A. Because everyone has the option to nominate someone who is active in game and does not (or no longer) use(s) the forums.

Q. The user I want to nominate is ban-on-sight on the forums, but is still very active and helpful in game. Can I nominate them on this technicality?
A. No. If someone was stupid enough to be forcefully and permanently exiled from the forums, they are not eligible.

Q. What happens if my nomination manages to be permanently banished in the duration of this project?
A. Your nomination will be removed, but I will contact you about it and allow you to choose a new user if you wish. If it happens during the polls however, the user will simply be terminated from the list without replacement. Think of it like a "No returns after 30 days" type of thing.

Q. Can I nominate someone who won last year?
A. Yes.

Q. Why don't you share with us which users are already nominated?
A. Due to the fact that everyone who has received one or more nominations makes the polls, access to the list of nominations would encourage people to only nominate users who have not been nominated. Doing so could result in me having to sift through 200+ users that many people may or may not have even heard of and construct days and days worth of polls. Since most polls last for only about 24 hours, there simply would not be enough days for all those users.

Q. How do we know you aren't altering or sabotaging anything behind the scenes?
A. I don't know what to tell you here. You'll just have to either trust me or else not play along. As a heads-up however, I submit my nominations before even posting the thread, so as long as you can take my word for it, I don't even have the power to pick and choose who I think should make the poll.

Q. Does this belong in Forum Games?
A. As far as I'm concerned, no. This is more of a project run primarily by me and the fundamental plan of it all is not affected by other users as is the case with Forum Games. There is no real goal that anyone can actually attain by themselves as it relies on other users voting for the person.
