Housing's job is to make sure people living on and off campus are reasonably accommodated and living comfortably. If I'm "getting on their nerves" that's pretty indicative of the motivations of the people I'm dealing with.
Speaking of, I met with the community director today, and it was a waste of time. I learned nothing new and she offered me several rooms (hey hey there isn't just one empty space like they loving said) that were all objectively worse than where I'm currently living. I brought up the rooms with no names on the doors and she insisted that they were filled. She wouldn't verify it, either. She told me it would be demeaning or something to housing services to check if the rooms I had found were empty or not.
I'm gonna change my strategy. I'm going to talk to the Dean of Students, because it would be a good idea to bring this up with her if it's going to affect my academics. I also have two theoretical room-swap ideas in mind:
- I could ask one of my roommates whether he would know any one of his friends who'd be willing to swap into this room. He's a party dude, so there's bound to be a ton of options. I already have one in mind, but I'm not sure he's interested.
- Our dorm is right next to what is considered sorority HQ on campus. If I can find three girls that'd be willing to swap with me and my roommates in order to be closer to the action, not only would I score a better room for myself but also one or two for my two roommates. This is the harder one to pull off, obviously.
