Games / My summer project.

I was thinking of contacting a friend of mine, who will be trying to get into a college for game programming or something related to that matter. I was thinking it would be a good experience for the both of us as I would like to learn about modeling and texturing, as well as mapping and a bit of coding, but the main problem is what engine to use. I was also hoping for something that didn't rely heavily on coding, especially of the c++ breed.

It is going to be an FPS. And the engine HAS TO BE FREE.

I thought of retribution, but it would feel more like a mod and everything is grainy.

It absolutely needs to have multiplayer capabilities over a master server?

The highest bidders for me right now are the Sauerbraten and Cube engines.

I may add a poll once people talk about others.

Games / UT99 (Unreal Tournament)

The first Unreal Tournament in the series. I play it, as I got it off of Steam, because I randomly got 50 dollars for games and decided to get a couple low-end games as well as higher-end games (like Far Cry). This game runs at about 60-90 fps, on a "average" computer, which can handle HL2 at medium-high settings. Hell, I even get a good 40-60 fps on my worst computer, which is the basic Dell laptop that isn't really specifically made for one purpose. I get sound issues on the "average" computer (really distort sounds, like if a corrupt sound file were allowed to play), but I was able to fix it by turning off some sound enhancer thing that reduced the quality of sounds for all games but that. It stopped working, so I just turned the sound enhancer thing back on.

The sounds and the game feels a hell of a lot more stable on my new (stuff) Vista computer. The only thing bad about it is that (no, not the Vista part) it runs on an 8mb video card, so even UT99 stutters on maps other than the most basic ones.


Great older game to buy, its 10 bucks off of Steam, and I recommend it if you have Audiosurf and DOD:S already.

Also, I am excited over Far Cry (Yes I am excited over old news.). I just got it off of steam for 10 bucks and I saw some videos and it looks really good to me. If my computer can handle hl2 on medium/high graphics, can it handle Far Cry?

I think it looks pretty good, but I could use a few ideas. I modeled it in Wings3D. Obviously.

And no, I didn't base it off the TF2 Grenade launcher. I just made something that looked like a grenade launcher and wound up with that. I had no references, it was made purely from thought.

So right now i'm on my account through IE, which I hate. I tried to log in on my normal browser and forgot my password, so I made a new one, typed it in when it asked me to log in again, and it could not log me in, and told me to check my cookie settings.

Something like Ephi's flamethrower, but a beam instead that can shoot over long distances.

I don't want something with a high fire rate that will eat your fps, like just making a gun with an extremely low delay.

I found this on Newgrounds, and it is from the creator of the Sourceforts theme. I decided to take it, get rid of the really small silent part of the loop that made it seem like it skipped, and post it here. It is quiet enough to play close to the camera without making your ears bleed.


Bumping when elevator mod comes out, for obvious reasons.

Help / Blockland doesn't start (Vista).

It just won't start. The console opens, stating that it was missing a bunch of stuff, like the main.cs (of which I know is VERY important.), and the game itself doesn't open. I havent made any changes to anything as far as where stuff is, or add any addons. It ran fine when it launched after the install, but if I were to close it and open again this would occur. When I was playing, however, the game ran smoothly with no problems at all.

Help / Adding a command to an exe?

Like what some .bat's do, to open the exe under a special guideline, such as blockland with the mission editor. I was reading a few topics about it and I didn't quite think they were clear enough as far as what to do. I wanted to know how to do this so that I could get rid of the .bat that I have to open Blockland with the mission editor, and so that I could add stuff such as this to other games as well so that I can get rid of the .bat's for those as well.
