iPhone 8.
This conversation is over. Im not sure why you want to question a personal experience.

If it worked most the time, Id enjoy it more. Apparently working with your hands is a against the rules.

I’m just trying to understand what you’re talking about precisely, because your personal experience doesn’t really make sense to me so far. Maybe you were talking about Samsung’s Galaxy S8 Face recogniztion system? You have the right to have an opinion on a feature but atleast have some credibility when sharing your experience on it, maybe talk about the right brand or product.

Update from Apple about the « failed » on stage Face ID demonstration, turns out Face ID just did its job.

Quote
Tonight, I was able to contact Apple. After examining the logs of the demo iPhone X, they now know exactly what went down. Turns out my first theory in this story was wrong--but my first UPDATE theory above was correct: "People were handling the device for stage demo ahead of time," says a rep, "and didn't realize Face ID was trying to authenticate their face. After failing a number of times, because they weren't Craig, the iPhone did what it was designed to do, which was to require his passcode." In other words, "Face ID worked as it was designed to."

Cool, but the last time I tired it, it forgeted up a good 80% of the time because of it.
I had gone to an apple store to get my 6 looked at after the home button got stuck, and the sales person kept trying to push the 8 on me saying that the facial recognition would be the next big thing. I asked for a demo and they tried to map my face. It didn't work out and I'm still skeptical.

Uh as far as I know Apple would never offer a demo for an unannounced feature, especially in apple stores
How did they map your face exactly?

"It does not work for me."
"Yeah it does."

What the forget mate.

Having a beard doesn’t mean it wont work, Apple clearly explained how it exactly worked with different face appearances. And it’s not like Apple tested their Face ID system to trust it being the replacement for Touch ID on future iPhones. Neural networks and deep learning, it basically learns your face to recognize it faster and faster as you use it.

you have to align your face right then you have to swipe up, as opposed to just placing your finger on a button and being good to go
and as you saw in the demo it's not as reliable

Rumor said that it didn’t require alignment, and to be honest you don’t align your face as much as you would align your face for iris scanning.
The demo fail explaination was literally on the interface as it happened, showing « Face ID requires passcode to be enabled » meaning the device was restarted shortly before without entering  passcode. It was not a reliability issue.

EDIT: Apparently, when you restart an iPhone, it explicitly mention that it need to be reactivated after restart. The message at the keynote wasn’t that, so what happened during keynote is either a glitch or disabled after several tries or too long (8 hours) stand-by time. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K1mAYOzEGy0

Face ID doesn't work with my beard. Cool.
Yes it does. Where do you pull that from?

The only reason touch ID caught on is because it's fast. Face ID is not nearly as fast, it's not nearly as reliable, people are straight up going to go back to PINs.

so a stare is slower than a finger

no headphone jack? no interest

why posting then

bio-metrics arnt constitutionally protected. fingerprints, iris, face rec, voice rec.

LE can force you to open things using these without a warrant. just use a 4dig pin.

You can disable Touch ID (and probably Face ID) by pressing lock button 5 times in latest iOS

Only the digit code is required after that
