Hm, what if you got rid of all the typical RPG elements in M's idea.  A simple trade winds like game might be allot of fun.

There are many times in game design that the solution isn't to come with a way to solve the problem, but instead just remove the problem.  If it isn't a crime stopping rpg, remove the police and the ability to commit crime (ie: have weapons.)

Make the goals of the game to succeed at the main focus of the game.  Have people work so that they can get a house in the best neighborhood with the biggest lots.  Or possibly own the sky scrappers in the middle of the town.  Have people build, and make building well important enough that people will do it.

It's somewhat a shame that the majority of add-ons are guns.  Guns help with DMs.  And personally, if you're looking for a good DM, go to some other game that's designed for it, don't bother with it on Blockland.  Do something that only Blockland can do.

It was directed at you.

You first connected to the server today, at 10:00:10 am.  The server logs do not lie.

Edit: Upon further inspection the server client list seems to have been reset a few days ago, the list was started after that reset, so only those who joined since the reset have been placed on the list.

Also, Kalph, but some note next to the list to not bitch about your name being on the list, and that it will be updated shortly or something...

Hold your horses.  I checked the list sometime last night and Desolation was the only one not listed on the post from the list of clients.  Kalph has updated the list even since then, so you haven't really been on the server that long.

Edit: The server logs also show you only joining once so far.

Kalphiter is yelling at me to get more people into the server, ironically for a voice server via the chat box.  This post is pretty much all the effort I'll bring, but I think I'l try to stick on the server as long as at least someone is on it now and then.

Mechanic's stuff, for repairing the ship after taking damage in battle.  Shield generators.  Captain's quarters.  Power core (unless you include power generation with the engines.)

I really like using unity.  I'm still learning all of the internal workings though, (currently have a tab open for learning about RPC messaging) so I'm not quite at the point of making anything of quality with it, but hope to be soon.

maybe he can't for copyright reasons?
Nope, he technically owns all Blockland add-ons.  I only knew Skylands was going to be a default map because Trader told me it was in one of the new betas, and I never was contacted in any way to be asked or told that it was going to become a default map.  Not that I mind anywho, but yeah, he can include them if he wants with no legal concerns because of the BL user agreement.

I personally would like the brick selection to be filled in more.  There are many gaps in the library (such as 1x14, and 2x16) that would really be nice to have as it's annoying to have a spot that big and need to split it up in some hackish way with smaller bricks.

That, and inverse corner bricks should be default.

Well, those are both sandbox games, so they don't really count as taking an aspect which emerges from a sandbox game and turning it into a full game.

There is a fun game called stranded which has some building elements however, so it's not exactly something which has never been done as a full game.

Suggestions & Requests / Re: Blockland 2
« on: July 18, 2010, 05:27:27 PM »
I could actually see a Blockland 2 coming out, but not for a few years.  At a certain point things will be possible due to increases in processing power and internet speeds that were (very reasonably) not taken into account when programing and would require a major overhaul of how bricks work, which at that point it'd be reasonable to upgrade the engine as well.

Fyi this is in the games category because while it does talk about blockland, it's applying its gameplay to the possibility of other games.
From the main post.  Read before you post please.
