Clan Discussion / Re: Blockland Alliance Navy [BAN]
« on: February 09, 2009, 08:00:20 PM »
Well, for my simple space map I'm going to have a star field with just stars that glow nicely.

For the nice one I want to have a galaxy (similar to seeing the milkyway at night), stars around, and also a planet, a moon, and another surprise it if looks right.

Maybe help yourself and show the code so we can help you?

Current map status: barely started.

What are Nibus' suggestions?

Also, I think I'm going to just make a simple space map, then go back and put time into a nice one....eventually.

Modification Help / Nancy Drew and the case of the mising bricks
« on: February 09, 2009, 06:45:07 PM »
I'm in a bit of a pickle.  I have this code for creating bricks for a little mod on my server:
Code: [Select]
function plantdigbrick( %pos )  //Plants a dig-able brick at %pos
{
%newBrick = new fxDtsBrick()
{
position = %pos;
rotation = "1 0 0 0";
angleID = 0;
colorID = $dirt_color;
colorFXID = 0;
shapeFXID = 0;
printID = 0;
dataBlock = brick4xCubeData;
isBasePlate = 1;
isPlanted = 1;
client = findlocalclient();
};
%newbrick.clicktokill=1;
findlocalclient().brickGroup.add(%newBrick);
%newBrick.setTrusted(1);
%err = %newBrick.plant();
if(%err == 1 || %err == 2 || %err == 3 || %err == 4 || %err == 5 )
{
%newBrick.delete();
}
else
{
$cavepart[ %pos ] = 2;
}
}

It is largely based ripped off of the duplicator.  The problem is that occasionally one person will have random sections of the build be completely invisible.  It is rare and happens to only one person, but I would like to fix it.

As a note to get a head start on the questioning:  Nothing you do to the bricks makes them appear.  Not spraying them a different color, wrenching them and turning on and off stuff, nothing.  It also happens to me some times.

I use it with no problems.

God, sounds like Firefox really does brainwash a billion kids.
For people who aren't good with computers and know exactly what sites give viruses, Ie is a very bad decision for a web browser.  For people who are good with computers, they should know that Ie is non-standard complaint, and that Microsoft and their browser ruin the potential ability of sites to be coded once and display right on all browsers.

It's not that firefox is the only browser that people should use, it's that Ie is the only browser people shouldn't use.

Kunit and Laremere, Learn2Indent
I indent all the code I write, but I didn't want to take the time to go to an external source to copy a tab to put in the code.

What I don't understand is why people try to make mods that give the features of full games.  You don't have to have a super complicated mod to have fun.  Besides, the only server special mod that I've seen actually be hosted for a good amount of time is RoB.  You can't expect people to spend hours on your server to start having fun like you can with other games.

Modification Help / Re: Return to Blockland v3
« on: February 08, 2009, 03:42:11 PM »
I plan to phase out usage of the IRC since its much harder to control who uses it and who can't. We will be switching over to Jabber which will have 1 account per BL ID so people are easier to manage. It also supports group chats so it'll be like IRC just easier to control the idiots in it.
Cool.  I assume that people will be able to access their RTB Jabber with an external client that works with Jabber?

Also, I've been wondering what possibilities there of people joining server's chats through an external client (or while they're on a different server.)  I would be useful if turned on a server would create a group chat that had everyone ingame talking, and you could  talk to them.

I got this after giving a reason for derepping someone.

Also, on the topic of the new server, is there any chance that the RTB dedicated would be used to host an IRC for RTB?  We could have multiple chat rooms and whatnot.  I understand if you want to stay with centralchat and just let them host it, but just a thought.

Maps / Re: Mutantz Mapz And Portz
« on: February 08, 2009, 12:04:35 AM »
Also, on the whole quality vs. quantity issue, I just counted the number of custom maps in use via RTB server browsers, and only 28 out of 82 servers are using custom maps.  17 of those are slate edits (I think, I may not be up to date on every single name of every slate edit.)

If you want to make custom maps, it looks like you'll need to put in allot of quality for people to actually use it.  This isn't like weapons of vehicles were you can have any number of them, with maps you only can have one at a time.  So if people are choosing what map to use, they're going to go with quality.  Making a ton of maps won't help anything.  Making a few quality maps will change everything, since people will actually use them.  If a few people use a map over and over, more servers will start using that map instead of playing with it for a minute or two, getting bored then just switching to slate or the bedroom to have fun.
