There are many things in Blockland that you may not know. Simply because no one was there to tell you, and it doesn't jump out at you like a red undulo brick; infact almost secret (sometimes).
Let's start with things natural to Blockland. (Perhaps modless.) Then we will get into the downloaded content and how it works.
Server LoadingLoad time.It is often asked by others, and perhaps you; "How long is the load?"
This cannot actually be answered for several reasons.
- Your connection may be slower or faster than others.
- You may already have some of the files from other servers, thus no redownloading required.
- Loading objects may take longer on your computer.
- You may have not lighted the map yet.
- You may have sounds and/or music downloads turned off, while others may have it on. Or vice versa.
I beleive that's all I have to say about loading for now.
The console, glitches, and you (fixing them)Server crashes after loading objects.It may be some prints you have enabled, could be some broken add-ons, too many add-ons, or the map you are trying to play.
I keep shooting/jetting/jumping/crouching when I'm not pressing anything.This is where the console comes in great use.
Press the ~ button to open up a command-line entry window, also known as the console.
Typing commands exactly as follows to fix these problems:
Shooting: mouseFire(0);
Jetting: jet(0);
Jumping: jump(0);
Crouching: crouch(0);
There is also an add-on called the
Glitch Fixer. It can help you remove these problems.
Weird boxes and squares are glitching all over the screen.I find this usually occurs when breaking several bricks (with wand). Others often happen to them due to physics. If your computer isn't crappy like mine, you can type flushTextureCache(); to fix this issue.
(The reason I cannot use this is because it freezes the game till the server thinks I lost connection.)
My spawns and bricks aren't working in my minigame.This is a LAN bug. When someone with the same ID joins the server, the brick ownership transfers over to them, thus the bricks are not in the minigame. To fix this, have them join the minigame, and turn on "Include all player's bricks." or rejoin so you gain ownership of the bricks. I've reported this bug already.
AdministrationWhat admin means.Yes, I understand. You can run your server however you wish, but I think people look at the word admin the wrong way.
Like fire, it's not a toy. Yes, it's pretty, and powerful, but is still not a toy.
An administrator is meant to enforce the server rules.
Those special actions only available to admins are to help them control the server.
The destructo wand pushes players because they may be in your way of clearing bricks.
Camera and player control (f8/f7) is a great way to get around quickly and make sure things are going the way they should be.
Fetching and finding players are just useful commands, that can be abused thus are given to someone who can handle power. Imagine joining a TDM and being able to throw all the enemy team into a pit of death?
Spying is to keep eye on specific players, to make sure they aren't doing anything wrong.
Kicks and bans are obvious.
FiltersCivilized vocabulary.When you see that warning after typing a message, it just means the server has E-Tard Filter enabled.
This is often used to prevent people from using stupid irritating words, such as "dat", "u", and so on.
**** gets blocked out.There is no need to put spaces in your words to avoid a curse filter. There are client sided options for turning this off.
Open options, goto advanced, and scroll down till you see the option for turning this off.
Controls New.The camera object. (F8) New.While in the camera, you may hold your fire key (default left click) to move at double speed.
The default controls and stuff. New.You can set the default emotes and sitting to keys if you enter the options menu.
By default, opening the brick bar at the bottom of the screen, you press 1. But 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 and 0 are to quickly switch to specific slots. If you bind 1 to use slot 1, you can still use it to open the brick bar. I find this much more efficient.
Downloadable contentFrom joining servers.When you join a server, and download some add-on content from it; you aren't getting the needed script files to run these on your own. These are just the necessary files to be able to use them in that server, and other servers running identical content.
You are also able to disable sound and music downloads in Options.
Decals and faces. (Client-sided)If you are using custom faces or chest decals, only those who also have that same file downloaded will be able to see it. Otherwise they see the regular happy face and/or a blank decal.
Prints and bricks. (Server-sided)Bricks and prints are not downloaded when joining a server.
Prints will show up as a single top stud, stretched to fit.
Special bricks (ex, Corner bricks, inverted corner ramps, one way window) will just appear as a 6 sided normal brick that matches the size of the custom brick, unless the client had downloaded it separate.
Bricks that are too large (anything bigger than 64) will also just appear as a 64 (Length, width and height) no matter if the client has it downloaded or not. Use of anything bigger than 64 studs/brick height is not recommended.
That's all I have to say for now.
