I really agree that unique mods that are never released to the public do nothing but harm the game
Point being that gamemodes was not even close to being the remedy for that. Needs settings support and it's gold. Right now it's stuff because in order to customize any sort of gamemode, even if it were to just be tweaking a time limit or something equally miniscule, you need to edit the scripts and repackage. Even if the gamemode creator added in serverCmds, that's just more hidden config to add to the already loaded up with hidden config game.

Though we should all stop really. Badspot is not going to do anything. Going to have to agree with trinick on the documentation part because we do have the tools we need to get a lot of information. But bugs and the gamemode system are problems and need to be fixed. Additional functionality would just be a bonus and for the most part are just suggestions in attempt to inspire.

Statistics are a real thing and a lot of new players didn't remain long at all. Most likely because of the underwhelming steam support. Right now I understand the average number of players is double what it was before the summer sale, but it's definitely been cut down to 1/3 if you're looking at the number of players during the sale. The community shouldn't have to figure out workarounds to host dedicated servers, nor turn down the game volume to like 10% if they're first-person headphone users.

This is going to screw over a lot of speedrunners that highlight a PB/WR. They're up to the mercy of the copyright system whether or not the audio gets nuked.

The idea behind the gamemode system was to provide a way for creative people to package their gameplay creations and share them with other people.  One of the central complaints by new users is that you just get an empty box and it's hard to know what to do - you can join a server and see some really cool game mode or build, but how do you run something like that?  Well with gamemodes, the people who know what they're doing could package up their cool server config and release it for other people to use.
I wouldn't have minded making or downloading some of these.

But there's one major issue. There is no way to add customizable settings to these gamemodes without jamming them up with invisible serverCmds, on top of all the already invisible default settings and features like colorsets and autoadmin. Even those sickly cashcow F2P shooter games offer settings for their gamemodes. If I were to package some sick TDM right now, every single server would have to use that same setup unless they dig into the files and change it themselves.

And for the most part, I complained about bugs. The one I bring up the most is corner jumping. But lets not forget jetting up through unraycasted bricks, that odd visual anomaly seen on distant ground/water, alarm killing many ear drums in first person, sound channels swapping when looking down sometimes, and let's not forget the obvious collision issues both clipping and networking.
But if I really must suggest some things to add to Blockland, it would definitely be dynamic shapebaseimage coloring without relying on datablocks, as well as particles (seriously, this would cut colorset datablock usage from 7/color to just 7 in total). And maybe some better server-sided audio control. Why is it that we can play sounds on gameconnections but can't stop them?

If I don't do this I lose to even beginner bots help.

How about letting everyone make loving guns. Was there some sort of technological regression that forced every race to get rid of firearms and fight with swords and bows like it's 1066? What kind of sci-fi game restricts you to using only REGULAR melee weapons to fight stuff with? They aren't even power swords or lightsabers or anything like that, it's just metal ingots being shaped into weapons.
You're forgetting that this is Terraria with multi-world servers but with significantly less content.

Ok, I'll have to admit its always good to force dragon / tower but at early levels, especially if you are very low health because its the first fight and its gonna be even you shouldn't risk your life to push a turret if the enemy jungler is present? Early pushing is weak too, and you cant do dragon that early.
Or you could just farm to get a bigger gold/exp advantage.
