Off Topic / Re: blockland rebuilt
« on: July 19, 2023, 10:06:13 AM »
There is no advantage in removing maps. They look bad, but if we're not replacing them with anything what is the point in sweeping them under the rug? Shadows do not look good and in 11 years nobody found a mechanical use for them. Compare that to some of blockland's most beloved servers vanishing overnight because we never got the promised replacement for terrain.
wasn't the replacement for terrain modter?
the idea being that you'd have to build the terrain yourself ingame, instead of needing an external program to create a static/unchanging terrain model.

also shadows/shaders are super nice to have and is what made me prefer v21 over the other versions of the game; lighting means so much for any sandbox game and v20's lighting is awful. it still is awful in BLR with their unfinished shader feature and i'm hoping thats something they can actually fix with whatever decompiled codebase they have.

this was what actually made me aware of blockland in the first place.

if there's any ancient roblox cretins here, you may have heard of clockwork - an intern who worked briefly at roblox
he had a place that was publicly visible on his profile back in about 2009 or so called "clockland", it had literally nothing in it as far as i'm aware, no clocks, no roosters, no land.
naturally theories spawned around this, most notably people trying to say blockland in the comments and getting filtered out because they thought that it was a reference to this game.

so thanks roblox, you ruined my life made my life so much better by indirectly introducing me to blockland.

pretty sure it was this yeah, as it was "ninja edit" originally

thread going fast/your post getting done by soemone else iirc usually just resulted in the poster including the warning message with their post and going "goddamnit" or whatever
yeah that was it lol
i haven't seen it used in a LONG time so i must've got it mixed up at some point.

Extremely old forums meme was if someone posted really quickly while you came up with a reply, you'd see people type something like:

EDIT: Ninja
ninja was used more as a "you said what i was going to say, cunt" rather than just a thread going super fast.
say you wanted to call someone a sick forget for trying to have love with a tuna jar, and as you were writing that another person said the exact same thing and beat you to the punch; that would be a ninja moment.

that wasn't really an exclusive thing to this board too, it was more of forum culture back then.
same with -snip- in quoted posts to remove images so you don't pagestretch and cause the i286 to explode.

another was "Pageloss" - a lot of the time the final post of a threads page would go unnoticed and unread, if that happened then you'd occasionally see that person repost it on the next page.
truthfully, this served no purpose other than showing who was desperate for attention.

You'd think after multiple years of operating on 'borrowed time', y'all would be used to the idea of the gun firing at any minute, but I guess not.
i think that he was planning on putting us out of our misery when writing that, but decided against it for whatever reason - must have calmed down after the post or something.

'borrowed time' at this point means how long he'll put up with self hosting the forums and by extension core blockland servers
we obviously don't make him the kind of money back during the forums and the games prime era(s), especially when registration is permabusted and badspot can't rake in the alt money anymore.
i'd say we've got another year or two before judgement day, the second sign of the prophecy is already here with badspot becoming an inactive lurker for over a year now.

Last two posters are old but also noobs.

I went back and reread and you just misunderstood me lol.

I never said I was going to stop trolling, I was just going to be less edgy when I troll.
Sorry couldn't find the stairs.

K bye. (for real this time)

Please reread the forum rules, category 5, subsection 3.

There will never be another Blockland Forums in the modern internet era of heavily sanitised and astroturfed social media platforms.

Off Topic / Re: blockland: the community that killed the game
« on: January 20, 2023, 12:14:26 PM »
blockland spawned out of pure luck from a throwaway project of badspots, made at the right time in history for online pc games to be released and make lodsemone without the aid of a professional publisher, studio, or team. if blockland happened at any other time it would've never hit such heights that it did during its peak and would have been left in the early v0002 days, with badspot moving to another game project or kickstarting his research business earlier.

every single update that came out for blockland was just a staple onto the initial throwaway project, staples that badspot didn't truly put his effort into or outsourced to actual passionate community members, for blockland or its community were never his passion, it was simply the situation he had found himself into. a situation that made him a ton of money from key sales, and you'd have to be a real clown to throwaway that opportunity when you can exploit said opportunity with minimal effort required on your end.

all of the addons that had been produced over the years were the only real thing keeping this game alive, and once that dries up, once the engines limits are reached, once the sole developer and moderator is intentionally MIA, and when the last talented addon maker moves on from the game, then what?

that is the position blockland finds itself in now, and we're on borrowed time until another hardware failure happens on the fossil that is the blockland server machine.
either that or he just drop kicks said machine out the window after one of you goons sends a carrot or brick to his mailbox.
