This isn't directed at anyone specific, but I just wanted to explain that Terrains are never going to be brought back into the game. Things have to update over time. Again if Microsoft loved Windows 98 so much, that they felt they didn't need to update. That is what we would be using today. Just because shaders won't work on your Amiga 4000, doesn't mean that they must be removed in place of low-quality, ugly terrain. Would you rather have this:

But if you want maps so dearly, just play an older version. Sure, it won't have optimization or any players, but that's why things need to update. If you want both maps and shaders, well you're stuff outta luck. But, no matter how much you threat:
