There are many different scenarios when it comes to being robbed during the night, that is why you have to be prepared.

this is untrue, actually. robbers will often rob during the day when you're at work. less of a chance of getting caught, and if you live in a big city or big neighbourhood people are less likely to report it

Your arm isn't going to immediately  be disabled, you will still probably be able to shoot after getting hit in the arm, of course you won't be deadeye accurate and won't be able to for more than a couple shots but, with the adrenaline pumping through your body the feeling won't be instant.
I'm talking about if someone has a weapon and is inside of your house, there's no reason to kill someone if they're unarmed.

you'd be a hell of a lot less likely to hit center mass and might just graze them or something.

not when your arm is disabled. and in the time it would take to switch your gun to the other hand, they'd have enough time to squeeze off another round

That is honestly one of the stupidest things I've ever heard, if someone is breaking into your house they are not breaking in with good intent and it's safe to assume that they are willing to harm you and your family, I'd sleep soundly after shooting someone breaking into my house.

that's dumb too. use the gun as a way to keep them from bolting until the police arrive. only shoot if they pull out a weapon

You're not going to instantly drop to the floor and die, if you're in a gun fight with someone else, adrenaline is pumping through your body, there is no thought of flight but only fight, you probably wouldn't even notice your first wound if it's in the arm or somewhere like that.

if it's in the arm, it still interferes with the major nerves that are, you know, controlling your arm. that would sure as hell throw off your aim.

Here is the point. Automatic = more bullets flying in less time. If your first shot was on target, then the second and third would kill the target right after the first made contact. With a simple 9mm pistol, someone would easially lose their aim after the first shot. If the first shot wasn't well places and hit like their shoulder of something, the target still can attack them. But if your first shot with the automatic hits their shoulder, there is a good chance that another bullet hit them in neck.

if it hit them in the shoulder, their arm would be hurting too much for them to hit anything. despite what you see in the movies, one bullet isn't a flesh wound. it's still a hunk of metal inside of you, potentially severing major arteries and causing you a stuffload of pain

you're exaggerating. it does not have so much recoil you are literally pointing at the ceiling.

if that is ever created, shoot at his shoes for a headshot. no that's not how it works.

but it's still enough recoil to get you off target. if you can hit someone with an automatic weapon, you can hit someone with a semi auto weapon. and like i said, automatics would cause a hell of a lot more collateral damage than a semi auto.

You're a loving moron. If a criminal breaks into your house, you have better luck of killing them if you have an automatic weapon. The recoil would cause you to drop it, but if you held that trigger for longer than 2 seconds, there is a good chance you landed a shot on them.

do you even know how recoil works? recoil pushes the gun back and up. if you just held down the trigger, you'd be firing into the roof in 5 shots or less. and if your first shot was on target enough to hit him, you didn't even need the automatic. not to mention it would maximize the damage to your house caused from misses.

Not all civilians have proper gun trianing, most likely they will miss their shots with a semi auto. With a full auto, they could just point it in the general direction of the criminal and hold the trigger down.

if you can't aim worth a stuff an automatic weapon helps

if you already can't aim worth a damn, an automatic weapon will do LESS good due to the increased recoil.

If a criminal can get a fully automatic gun while the non criminals can't without going to the black market, they should be sold widely that way civilians can protect themselves from the criminals with automatic weapons.

when one bullet puts you down, in a one on one fight an automatic rifle won't give you any significant advantage over a normal rifle

M16A1, whichever one was used during the Vietnam war. It was a shoddy rifle. Broke down alot. Inferior to the Ak-47 assault rifle. Apparently most would dump it for the Ak.
