Use Elementary OS, or Debian.Is there anything specific that causes the scenario where installing/uninstalling packages to break other packages? I've literally had to reinstall distros over this problem and I wish I could know what causes it.

At least its not now utterly useless where it would be before with Windows. So, a free piece of software, allowed the paid-for hardware to become functional again. That is a legitimate reason to use Linux so you can keep hardware for longer just incase you need it.
