You decide that you might as well do something. I mean, come on. What else COULD you do? You step out into the hall. At one end, there is another door that goes into your parent's room and at the other are a flight of stairs going down to the first floor.

Check computer desk drawers

You manage to pull the left drawer open, which has a torch in it. Shweet, let's just hope it's got batteries in it. But, you know you can't pull the right one open, so you don't even bother trying. This desk was once your fathers, and he always kept this one locked. He never told you why, but he said he'd unlock it for you when you were old enough. You're pretty sure you're old enough now, but he's just never given you the key for it.

Look out the window

You peer outside the window into the blackness of your backyard. It just seems like there's pinetrees just about everywhere, but out in the back you see the old barn. In the crack of the door, you are able to see a faint light. It's probably your father fooling with the breakers, trying to get the power back.

Well, after punching in all sorts of colorful characters, the computer starts randomly choosing your survivors. It then spits out four, neat plastic cards. You decide you'll just stick these on The Corkboard.

You type "Create" in building anticipation. It comes to a new screen which appears to be a biocard of some sort, asking for a name, a few stats, and a look for your survivor. Oh, and you also get 10 points to sink into your stats at your choosing. It also spits out a small template for you to design your character with. It appears to be a front and back shot of your soon-to-be person. It also asks you to make at least four of these, you're going to need plenty of people!

Oh hey, it's that game you installed but never played! You know, you kind of wonder why you haven't played this yet. You got soooo hyped about getting it.

open up blue folder.

You also decide to fire up the Survivor Maker, it was the other program that installed itself with the game. You haven't fiddled with this, either. Damn, what have you been doing? It's not like you've been creating an forum adventure about a lad searching for a magnificent drink item of some sort or something.
