Gallery / Modern Warfare MERP Dupset
« on: December 14, 2016, 09:09:59 PM »
One of several projects I'll be taking up in the early 2017 year is my mini empires. Unfortunately I lost a lot of files and saves on my old laptop, which was stolen thanks to a third-party roommate. Bullstuff aside, I'm rebuilding my old dup plates first, and revamping some parts and pieces since I have to do it all from scratch.

I'll be posting in this thread from time to time so if you're interested in MERP or my server leave a comment

scale is larger than typical MERP, reference some of my earlier works:

Games / Chronicles Of Elyria- Skyrim+Sims+SimCity+DarkSouls+LOTR
« on: October 05, 2016, 11:13:35 AM »

For the true humble beginnings of CoE, link to the first dev journal entry.
(logo is a hyperlink to main website)
Also people keep asking if Im making this game/being paid by SB, Im just a fan trying to get a BL group on the game for an early start. I'll be playing, people are free to inquire and join me (if I trust them)

WARNING
This game IS NOT DONE. If you pay, you will NOT have a full title until around 2018. On top of that, Soulbound Studios utilizes an interesting business model. The game is NOT Pay2Play, HOWEVER it can very easily be considered Pay2Win (Players may buy jobs/nobility, or in-game currency which translates into high-end items, mounts, land, etc.) Payment aside, each body costs $50 retail value. Your soul is your character, what you log into, your body is a vessel that you control for a maximum of 60 weeks, albeit an average of 40 is normal. For the month of October, a body or 'spark of life' costs $35. THIS ONLY GIVES YOU ACCESS TO THE FULL GAME IN 2018. For $30 there's an 'add-on' you can purchase called "Carriage For Two" that grants the buyer a level 2 cart (requires [2] lvl 1 mounts or [1] lvl 2 mount) as well as a spare 'game.' I don't know if a regular player can purchase this and expect to play the game. I'm going to pose the question on the forum later today or tomorrow. If you want to play as SOON as possible, it's going to cost $200 unfortunately, but that's for the Alpha. Alpha and Beta data will be wiped from the servers before the official launch.

Quick edit: for sake of understanding the poll, 'exposition' is a 3-month head start when the OFFICIAL launch happens. After beta, all data will be wiped off the servers, any premium content will be reimbursed (or I swear to god someone is gonna die cus im spending like $300) and then the game is in a sort of... private launch. 3 Months accounts for 1/4 of average player lifespan, so this can be a very very powerful headstart. On top of that, the buy-ins that I'm referring to grant items to backers, and the higher you buy in the more you get to keep from lower tiers. AKA $200 gets you access to Alpha, Beta, a bunch of items and some free premo currency, as well as the 3-month headstart/exposition.

Chronicles of Elyria is a game by Soulbound Studios, currently in the very early stages of pre-Alpha development (release predicted in late 2017), that seeks to immerse its players in an RPG where decisions finally have actual results and consequences. To list every feature of the game and every discussed possibility would probably go beyond the text limits of the OP, so saying that this game isn't audacious would be kidding ourselves.

Videos:
Snow accumulation tech display 10x snow speed in the video
Biological changes tech demo age and weight at accelerated speed
Combat demo no lock on, no auto-attack. All skill
Pre-Alpha demo graphics nature and village video
Titan's Steepe tour of a city and a village
Nature demo Lots of dev talk about designing environment around food chain these past 2-3 months, this video released Tuesday (10/4/2016) and shows off some animals you'll encounter ingame, as well as what some player civilizations may look like (kinda ghost-towny tho)

I'm currently in the process of moving out of my apartment / preparing for a hurricane, so I'll be updating this page casually as I have free time. I intend on investing in CoE and I'm putting this post here for anyone who may have interest in the title. Beyond that, I may be willing to strike up deals with people (paying a portion of their donation/game access, but I'll be keeping whatever items/kits come with the packs + be planning contracts & business schemes.)

In the mean time, for the full details you can either click this link, or I've copy pasted some of the main text discussing features and some of the animations off of the Kickstarter.

Chronicles of Elyria is the first MMORPG where your character ages and dies, encouraging you to think beyond your character to their role in a larger story.

Fearless in its design, it embraces a character's ability to impact other characters. A closed economy, finite resources, non-repeatable quests, and a fully destructible environment means the world is experienced differently for every character.

Fully destructible world means we'll see some epic sieges.
Each time you log in there is a dynamic world waiting for you. Local, regional, and national conflicts are continuously unfolding, giving birth to repeated opportunities for you to change the course of history.

 •   Aging, Dying, & Souls | An epic 10-year story line invites you to experience your character over multiple lifetimes. With each life you will develop your character and make your mark in the Chronicles. When your character eventually dies, their soul will be reincarnated stronger than before and their spirit and destiny will live on in another character of your making.

In CoE your body ages & dies, but Souls live forever.
Characters age in-game over the course of 10-14 real-world months. During that time your character will grow old and eventually die, leaving their mark on history. But while alive you must choose your actions carefully, as each in-game death reduces your overall lifespan (by approximately 2 days) and brings your character that much closer to permadeath. However, if you're an influential player (the king perhaps), each in-game death is more impactful, leading to permadeath in just 4 or 5 times.

After a coup de grace you'll walk the Astral Plane to return to your body.
 •   Player Skill Matters | It's no longer about getting to level cap and pursuing the best gear. In CoE a player's skill - their timing, speed, and strategy - makes a difference. The combat system requires you to dodge, parry, and manage your stamina - not just spam buttons. Crafting also requires player skill, with mini-games designed to make crafting more than just clicking a button.

 • Offline Player Characters | To maintain realism, your character remains in-game from the moment of creation until permadeath because you wouldn't want to be interacting with a merchant only to have them sign out and disappear from the world. We've solved this with AI scripts to support your character while offline. This allows you to train skills, run your shop, and defend yourself while you're AFK.

•   Non-Repeatable Quests | Tired of killing 20 bunnies destroying a farmer's crops, only to see 50 other characters complete the same quest? We're doing away with NPC quest hubs by enabling other players to give out tasks. That same OPC merchant may run out of reagents, leading them to ask you to bring 10 elixirs back from a far off city, utilizing the contract system to ensure delivery.

•   No World or Mini-Map | Map makers and cartographers have a place in CoE, helping players navigate their world. But watch out, because treasure maps can be faked and locations may be renamed, leading NPCs to refer to a town by the most used name.

Is that a treasure map or will you find bandits ready to attack?
•   Game-Enforced Player Contracts | Implicit and explicit contracts enable you to develop unique, never-before-seen meta content. Signing in-game contracts between players creates a binding agreement so you can safely operate your business. Sign trade contracts to create a shipping business. Employ other players to procure hard-to-find resources. Sell your services as an expert assassin and be confident you’ll receive payment. The possibilities are endless and only limited by your creativity!

TL;DR
Your character can die, souls carry 'exp buff' stats across lifetimes as well as small bits of learned knowledge, there are game mechanics planned or in place basically all the way from chopping wood to contracting an architect for the castle. If you play as a regular player ("Elyrian") the game operates very much like an open-world RPG. If you play as a king, you split your time 50/50 RPG/Sim City with a hint of Civ (Kings set the direction for a country, research and culture and TAXES!). There will be pre-fab cities and buildings, but the goal of the game is player-based development. Combat is not SELECT TARGET, CHOOSE SKILL, FARM, but rather fencing and timing your attacks, footwork, practicing with your weapon and refining player skill. There are no levels or classes, only the skills that we master and the stats we build. Invention is possible through crafting (for some extra resources) AFTER you master a recipe, and you can either copyright your invention or share it with the world. When your player is 'born,' they are given destiny quests: that is, the time of your players conception sets in motion a series of events and activates specific quest/storyline material BASED on those events and the timeline. As you progress through your life, as certain criteria is met quets become available to you and you have the choice to proceed down those paths. But rather than most quests where it is "DO X, HARVEST Y, KILL Z", you could instead kill your quest giver, go burn the fields of Y, marry Z and never do X.

General Discussion / What I miss
« on: October 05, 2016, 10:08:22 AM »

Hello BLC, it's been a while. How are things?

If you're not sure who I am, this 2013 gallery is a good refresher
ninja edit: found out the links on that post lead to the image that represented each album. Couple 100 pictures gone to the depths of the internet. Unfortunately I untag most of my imgur galleries, so that only leaves me with about 5 albums. Here they are...

Space Station Orion: Station Sim + closed RPG map
MERP Dungeon Tileset Experiments (was developing a tiny RPG)
City RPG Tileset / Build Study ( there are also extra images in this gallery from my screenshots folder, I'm not taking them out because I link them in other posts and forums. I didn't build the soccer stadium, jail escape with the Riddler sign, white no-glow 64x64 item dup-plate courtesy of ? (I have to check the BLID when I get on later) )
Sci-fi Prison Escape: Escape From Pluto
Normie Prison Escape: Escape From Blockland

For those that don't know or recognize me, I played BL from 2011 to 2015 up until I moved out of state for college. I wasn't able to bring my desktop (technically the families and not mine anyways,) which sort of threw a wrench into the whole operation: Hard to play Blockland when you have no computer for it. As of yesterday, I'm a GPU, Motherboard and CPU away from having a completed battlestation (I'll release specs when the thing turns on.. IF it turns on.) and I intend on making Blockland the first game to be downloaded to my C:.

So what all has happened in the year or so that I stepped away? I see Eric is still at it with the updates, Drama is still a festering cess pool (good ol' days man), and gallery is still gallery: half mind-blowing, half potato. What are some good servers that popped up? Were there any really great parties? Has Badspit done one of his mail time drama posts since?

I'm not making any promises to any of you jokers, but my boredom has peaked these last few days, and I intend on either re-continuing one of my old projects, or taking up something entirely new. On this end, I leave an open ended question for everyone to supply their own feedback: What kind of server would you like to see pop up in the next week - 2 months?
(I'll put up a poll Friday with everyone's suggestions)

Unfortunately I'm posting this right as Hurricane Matthew is barreling towards Florida, and being in the Orlando area I'm not 100% sure what to expect of power/service while all of this stuff goes down. Internet providing, I'll probably be spending my time indoors jumping back into the community.

Off Topic / Need a Hobby? How About Poi!

FORUMERS OF ALL AGES
GATHER AND SEE!

posted on August 25th, 2015

Hello forum, it's been a while. In my absence from the forums, I've taken up some hobbies, but one stands out from all the rest in how distinct and bizarre it is. Today, I'd like to share my new hobby with you guys: poi! Most people, when I tell them I do poi, have a very puzzled expression and ask "what's that?"

I still don't have a good answer.

What I can tell you is, is that it's a lot of fun, and it's a lot cooler to see it, than it is to hear or read about it. Without too many details (which are provided in this topic if you continue to read...) poi is a form of dancing, a performance art, a light show, exercise (as all dance goes), a therapeutic past-time, and in a way it can be kinda like yoga. 1,000 years ago poi was used by tribal men to strengthen their bodies for war, then women turned it into something that could be choreographed. Now, it has evolved into something so much more.

WHAT IS POI?
Back to Index!

Definition
Quote
Define: Poi
Poi is a Hawaiian dish made from the fermented root of the taro, which has been baked and...
Hold up, wrong poi. Let's try that again.

Quote
Define: Poi
Poi refers to both a style of performing art and the equipment used for engaging in poi performance. As a performance art, poi involves swinging tethered weights through a variety of rhythmical and geometric patterns. Poi artists may also sing or dance while swinging their poi. Poi can be made from various materials with different handles, weights, and effects (such as fire).

History
Poi originated from New Zealand, and although there is no clear indication of how old it is, it has been estimated that the art of poi has been around for close to 1,000 years. The Maori of New Zealand would use poi for a variety of different purposes: Men would use them to build upper body strength in preparation for war, and women would use them for wrist exercises, which eventually developed into dancing for entertainment purposes. In the past 100 years, tourism dramatically increased to New Zealand, and as a result the Maori peoples had an opportunity to earn some income for the art that they had been practicing on their own. People were enchanted by the simple art, and took it back to their own countries, thus the spread of poi began.

Modern Poi Now
Modern poi has taken on a life of it's own in comparison to the Maori people's poi. Now there are plenty of different variations of poi, ranging from flags, to LEDs, to fire. There is also a large difference in price, as well, depending upon the complexity of the poi. For example, the simplest of all, sock poi, can cost anywhere from $5 to $10, and the most advanced poi on the market, pixel poi, can range from $500 to $1000+! Poi has largely become popular at dubstep concerts, Burning Man, clubs, and is progressively spreading (Now it's on the forum!)

One thing I am going to steal from the wikipedia webpage without any form of regret is the following statement-
Quote
Unlike many physical arts, learning poi does not usually involve formal education. Most spinners learn from each other or teach themselves using DVDs or online resources. A strong sense of community and self-teaching are key elements of modern poi.

WHERE DO I START?
Back to Index!

Glad you asked! If you are interested in starting poi, watch this video first. The guy hitting himself in the background is Nick Woolsey, a very talented poi spinner, whom I hope to one day be half as talented as. If, at this point, you are serious about poi, subscribe to Playpoi on youtube, and bookmark http://www.playpoi.com/. Right now.

Once you've done all that, you're going to want to check out Playpoi's beginner series. It goes over lots of the details that you need to know, in order to actually USE poi. At this point, if you are 100% set on the idea that you would like to take up poi as a hobby, you are ready to acquire your own poi! There are multiple sites that sell poi, but I have three personal favorites, which I will list at the end of this section.

! IMPORTANT !
For new poi spinners, I HIGHLY recommend starting with sock poi! They are soft, light-weight, and less likely to hurt than fire poi or an LED poi with a clear PVC case! (They're also dirt cheap!)

Suggestions & Requests / onVehicleTouch - a do-over?
« on: May 14, 2015, 02:00:59 PM »
I've been making plans for a server that would benefit greatly from an onVehicleTouch event of some form. Through search, I found Chrono and Trigun's onVehicleTouch (found -here-, but it was failbinned for a faulty vehicle detection method-
Quote from: trader
This Add-On basically uses a method of vehicle detection that Trigun used previously in an Add-On that was also failed.  It involves running a function on a schedule, several times a second that searches around every vehicle in the server to see if any bricks are near.  There's not even a guarantee that the vehicle is actually colliding with the brick because of the way this check works.  This check is based on the bounding box of the vehicle, which is almost never the same size as the vehicle's collision mesh.  So, not only do you have a persistent schedule running the entire time the server is alive, you also have a detection method that isn't accurate.  The only way to get an accurate, efficient onVehicleTouch event is to have Badspot expose the engine's vehicle collision functionality (onCollision, etc) to TorqueScript.  You're just going to have to wait for him to add this functionality, because I'm going to fail any Add-On that offers an TorqueScript-based onVehicleTouch event.

My understandings of torque is that of a newborn, so I'll just go ahead and ask- 6 years later, is it possible to produce the same add-on, but without the faulty scheduling or checks?

Pardon the edit- I had intended to mention Chrono's onVehicleTouch but it slipped my mind before I posted. Details added in.

General Discussion / Commemorating the life of Thorfin25
« on: April 27, 2015, 04:00:01 PM »

1994 - 2015
BLID 2199*

*His forum acc has a different key because Thor owned 2 accounts. One was for a friend who never used their key

April 23rd, 2015, late Friday night, the Blockland community lost one of our better community members. Thorfin25 took his life late in the late afternoon of Friday. No information has been released in regards to exactly when or how it happened, but perhaps it's best that way.

The above image is clickable and is all of Thor's stats as a forumer. As you can see, help was his most common board.

Thorfin25 was a well known and respected member of the forum as well as the general online community. He went out of his way to help a lot of people, whether building props and content for various servers, offering his services in coding, computer hardware or just general life advice, Thorfin was always happy to help out.

If you knew Thor and have any stories you'd like to share, are struggling with depression, or just wish to pay your respects to his memory, this is the place to do it. If you do not want to publicly post anything in those regards, I will be on the forum as much as I can these next couple of days for anyone who would like to speak privately. If you have any screenshots of you with thorfin25, or just of Thorfin himself, there is a gallery topic set up for people to compile images and remember all the good times that were shared with him.
The link to the topic can be found - HERE -

I knew Thor for the past 7 years. We first met on Blockland, and with time we eventually got around to playing other games together, ranging from League to Warframe. When one of us was working on a project for Blockland, typically the other would join in as well. Thor and I had shared secrets and stories as we grew, spoke of our best and worst times, and had made limitless plans for what we want to do in the future. We had planned to get an apartment together this next year, to custom build our own gaming rigs, to host massive servers, to try out different hobbies and sports. I still plan to accomplish all of these plans, if not for myself then to honor his memory just a little bit.

The day of the incident, I was texting Thor. It was our usually dork stuff, we were just talking about this LARP community I found and talking about all the weapons and armor we wanted to try and make. It was just a normal day. He had to work so we stopped texting, and I went to go play on Blockland. While on Sweatpants mini empires server, I was informed by another friend of Thor's (who will remain anonymous) that he was gone. At first I didn't understand so I texted Thor assuming that the issue was he wasn't on Steam or Blockland. It was an hour later when the reality of what happened finally sank in.

Thor was the closest thing I had to a best friend. He taught me how to build, how to event, has given me life advice on so many different topics, and has always had a smile on his face whenever we skyped or snapchat each other. Now his steam icon is dark grey, his skype is quiet, and his texts don't get read.

This guy is my BF.

This guy is me.

RIP buddy

Was digging through some of my screenshots and found some old work of mine, thought I'd post it cause I forgetin' can for all to enjoy

Each image is clickable for a larger version, it's nothing too fancy. This was mostly intended as an experiment, just because I don't usually do a whole lot of terrain work. The project was supposed to be a zombie-survival map that was 75% wilderness and 25% city/suburb, but after a bit of debate between my two co-hosts and I, we moved onto a different project.

rate/criticize if you like, this may or may not have an effect on the revival said project.

Suggestions & Requests / Symmetry plane for building
« on: April 05, 2015, 01:53:31 PM »
If you play, have seen videos of, or are just familiar with the game Space Engineers, then you may be aware of a specific feature included in the process of building. More specifically, I'm referring to
Planes of symmetry
What this feature does on Space Engineers is it mirrors whatever you place, across the multi-colored frames. This cuts building time in half, by a third, or even 1/4 of the building time, depending on the number of planes used.

Building a giant space station, battleship or even a small fighter can take hours, if not days, to finish depending on the scale of the project. Here on Blockland, it can take even longer. So I'm left to wonder- why do we not have a similar system? Sure, we have the duplorcator and the duplicator, but they can't consistently mirror a build, and require you to actively place them.

One example I can see a very good use for symmetrical planes, would be mini empires builds-

I've dedicated an estimated 15 hours working that ship, and yet it's still not done. Now sure, it's entirely because I've been too lazy to finish, but what if, WHAT IF, I only had to build half of a ship, and the other half was built simultaneously?

What if you're building a bank? a house? TDM Map, car, block art, sculpture, etc? The uses for such a tool are literally endless.

Gallery / Sneak-Peek: New spawns @ Kong's Deathrace
« on: March 18, 2015, 04:10:33 PM »
Now with 30% more moss cow

! - All images are clickable to access a larger version. - !

So over spring break I worked on a couple of smaller projects, one of which being to develop new spawns for Kong's deathrace server. The spawns are scheduled to be finished this afternoon (Wed, March 18), but I thought I'd just share what the general build looks like here on gallery certainly not because people keep telling me to post my builds to increase interest in the server.

Section One - Building the First Spawn

The above 3 pictures are from the original first spawn that was built in order to be duped around for the 4 teams. Changes between this spawn and the last are fairly straightforward- a 4th vehicle spawn was added to each garage, the shop is now closer to the vehicles, there is now a race light to work in conjunction with the countdown timer, and rather than the garage doors just magically disappearing, a 2nd set of bricks will appear when the doors disappear, to create the illusion of the doors opening like a normal garage would.

Section Two - Preparing the Garages

The above 5 images display what the spawns are going to end up looking like, minus a few key details that need to be added this afternoon. All accent bricks have been colored in to represent their specific team color, lights were addedd, JVS fans (which currently don't work) were placed in the walls to add detail, and the race light was fully evented with sounds and color/color FX changes.

Section Three - Finished Product
There's nothing here yet!

Section Four - Spawn Video
There's nothing here yet!

Section Five - Multiplayer Video
There's nothing here yet!

SURPRISE ANNOUNCEMENT
The announcement will go out once all 5 sections have been completed.

Criticism welcome, recommendations encouraged, rating -/10 allowed.

What's that?
It's a bird,
it's a plane
no really, it's a plane, look

INTRODUCING THE C-130 HERCULES

FEEL THE PATRIOTISM

Now includes 200% more freedom!

Fancy plane lighting stuff!

Fancy windows n' stuff!

Totally NOT compensating for ANYTHING!

Now with landing gear!

And enough room to store all of your carrots tanks!
Caution: Blockheed Martin is not responsible for any accidents that occur due to overloading of the aircraft.

Please feel free to rate and provide constructive criticism. Also, if we have any AC-130 Spectre experts here on the forum, if they could point out what I'm missing from the aircraft, I'll sell you my soul be forever greatful.

To do list:
- Create an AC-130 Spectre variant (Circa 2000)
    - 2x 20mm M61 Vulcan Cannons
    - 1x 40mm L/60 Bofors Cannon
    - 1x 105mm M102 Howitzer
        - Event all the weapons to fire because I loving CAN
- Create a C-130 variant from Operation credible sport*
    - JATO system (Jet-assisted take off)
*the video features "fat albert," which is a C-130 that used to (decommissioned?) belong to the Blue Angels, a navy trick team as I like to think of them.
- add in cameras n' stuff, stuff you see on C-130s, but the smaller stuff that you wouldn't notice while in the process of building one.
- Event the lights to work in sequence with eachother
