Modification Help / New colorset
« on: April 12, 2014, 02:49:19 PM »
Me and a friend of mine wanted our own colorset, so while toying around with RGB hex code and what not
I'd like some input before I post the DL for it and all, I might edit it a little more here and there.

relocated from GD,
I'm not releasing it for another day or two.

which, to clarify, there is a Glow FX on them (the bricks), which was in the hopes of removing any shadows, but I can look into getting a picture with shadows later

Help / Zone events are admin only?
« on: March 29, 2014, 03:30:59 PM »
I've got a few players who are trying to use zone events, and they've had difficulty using them, with the error saying that "Zone events are admin only." I previously had an issue with onActivate, but fixed it by getting rid of Event_owner. I've disabled all of my JVS & related content, but that had no effect on it.

I've included my console log, if there are any questions I'll do the best I can to try to answer them prompty.

Off Topic / Bad joke thread
« on: March 20, 2014, 09:16:39 PM »
Personally for me, bad/corny jokes have always been my favorite. I run across them on a daily basis, but I never write them down or anything, so I figured why not see if I can start a thread for it? I don't have any good material with me sadly (aside from one), but hopefully we can get some good jokes flowing.

I was on the stuffter earlier, finishing my business and what-not. I flushed the toilet, when all of a sudden the tub gurgled, scaring me enough to jump off the seat. Needless to say, I was scared stuffless.

You do know that the BF3 weapon pack is up there, right?
I guess you could say he was

I received my Eagle in October and aged out in November of 2014, and I can say with complete faith that getting my Eagle was one of the best decisions I ever made. And now I want to be able to take the leap, to go over the edge. I've got two years experience with rock climbing, and this is a once in a lifetime experience that I've always thought I'd never get a chance to do. Provided I can reach $500 in donations, I'll be able to do just that, but ultimately I'd like to be able to help give back to BSA by raising $1000. I hope you'll help me reach my goal!

Short and simple guys, my local council is doing a fundraiser, where if you raise $500 you get to repel off the side of a 15 story building. I'm trying to put this in as many places as I can so I can raise enough money to be able to go over the edge, but the entire reason is to raise money for BSA so they can continue to teach young boys how to later become well-equipped men. As someone who has been a member of BSA since I was 7, I can fully attest that a lot of the people who enter BSA and achieve their eagle, end up being really solid, stand-up guys.

Provided I am able to go over the edge, I'll see if I can aquire a go-pro or some way to film me repelling off the side of the building. If that's still not possible, I've got some friends who have some high-grade filming equipment and I'm close with one of my CTE teachers at school, who would probably PAY to see me fall to my death repel off the side of a building. All funds will go to BSA, which then affects future generations of scouters. I'll see about setting up some way to track how much money I've raised as things progress, but at the moment I don't really have a lot of information to share with you guys.

Click below to see the letter I got notifying me of the event!

Pardon the goofy helmet, I'll see about getting a selfie tomorrow to replace that. I really don't have a lot of pictures of me...

Games / Thinking of buying Banished

Link for those who are unfamiliar: LINK

Is it worth it? I know it's $20 but I'd rather not end up spending another $20 on a waste of money (for example, cube world, having not been updated in like 7 months, and still in alpha...)

Watch TotalBiscuit's review. Made me not buy it.
Yup, not buying. Good review to watch in terms of gameplay

Off Topic / What constitutes animal cruelty in your opinion
« on: February 02, 2014, 12:30:36 AM »
I'm not gonna sugar coat this but I'm also gonna try to refrain from putting my opinions out there on this one, so I'm gonna try and keep this as factual as I can:

Starter info- My family recently got a kitten, she's about 4-5 months old, social, curious, etc, great cat honestly. The cat belongs to my younger brother, who has wanted a cat for almost two years now, so my parents finally caved (against my recommendations but hey, they're in charge.) The reason I told them not to get him a cat, has two parts:
He's has low-mild autism
he's got a temper issue
Before any of you get butthurt about autism - He's my brother. I'd take a bullet for him, no matter how badly I despise him. But this is like putting Steven Hawking behind the wheel of an F1 Formula Racecar: not a good idea. He (my brother) has little to no social skills, his basic logistical thinking is on par with a 1st grader, and his sense of moral responsibility stops where it doesn't affect him.

The issue at hand- Every day is the same thing in our house: we go about our lives, spend our free time playing video games and all is calm and well. Things go downhill about every 2-5 minutes, or whenever he has a break in his games. For example, just this evening he was playing some farming game, and after his crops were planted and he had to wait for them to grow, he turns in his chair, forcively shoves his arm into the cat's enclosed bed, and acts like his hand is a blender, complete with hissing sounds, "quit biting me stupid cat!", putting his face at the opening of the cat's bed, pulling her OUT of her bed, holding her against her will in his arms (usually for about a full 5 minutes), and then shoves her back in to her bed when his game is ready.

If you want the TL;DR, look at the red
When many of you clicked on this topic, I imagine in your head came images of poor puppies hit by cars and barely alive, kittens blind in one eye from a gun accident, cigarette burns on a rottweiler, etc. But that's obviously not the case here. Where do you draw the line on 'rough play' and then it's 'cruelty'

*side note:
he's fully aware the cat is crying, all three of us (mom, dad and I) have spoken to him about it in varying degrees of seriousness on a daily basis, He knows it's not okay

Off Topic / Building a spud gun: Tips / Tricks?
« on: January 16, 2014, 07:57:46 PM »

POTATO LAUNCHER
SPUD GUN
TATER CANNON
SPUDZOOKA

Call it what you will, but the result is the same: forgetin' AWESOME

Disclaimer: you MUST check your local state and city legislation before even bothering with building a potato launcher. Some states have outright outlawed spud guns (California), whereas some states recognize them as firearms (parts of Florida). If you want to read more, go HERE, but keep in mind that it may not be legal to build, own or fire potato launchers in your area. They should be treated as firearms as well: finger off the trigger until ready to fire, don't point at anything you don't want to hurt, and keep it unloaded until ready to fire.

A lot of people know what a spud gun is already, but JUST in case you don't know, you should probably crawl out from under the rock you're living under here is the definition by wikipedia:
Quote
A spud gun (also known as a potato cannon or a spudzooka) is a pipe-based cannon which uses air pressure (pneumatic), or combustion of a gaseous fuel, to launch projectiles at high speeds. They are built to fire chunks of potato, as a hobby, or to fire other sorts of projectiles, for practical use. The projectile can be dangerous and result in life-threatening injuries, including cranial fractures, if a person is hit.

THE PROJECT
My dad and I MIGHT build a potato launcher modified to launch tennis balls for our dog. We have a couple ideas in mind, and I've been working on putting together information to build it, as well as talking to people who have experience with potato launchers in general. I've created this topic both to learn more about potato launchers, and maybe inspire some members of the BL community to either post their already made spudzookas or create their own. If I do go through with the creation of a potato cannon, I'll see about posting pictures of it. If you have knowledge of pneumatics, potato cannons or air compression powered weaponry, please share it here (for science), and maybe learn something from someone else as well.

If you you're interested in building a potato launcher and want a good place to start, take a look through these links:

Formufit.com  (website specializing in PVC piping)

AdinX's to-do list & planned features:
mounted tennis ball launcher, maximum range of 100ft, below 15lbs, air compression + simple firing mechanism
• complete blueprints for entire project
• purchase materials for entire project (projected cost: $80)
• Assemble quadropod mount for launcher (solid PVC structure, weights in bottom of legs, estimated height: 3')
• Assemble double rotary joints for launcher mount (up-down/left-right)
• Assemble air chamber (preferably max of 300 PSI capacity)
• Assemble release mechanism (probably going to use a sprinkler valve like in the 3rd link)
• Assemble primary barrel
• connect air chamber, release mechanism and barrel
• test fire at 50PSI
• test fire at 100PSI
• test fire at maximum capacity
• go to local park, attach cannon to tripod, take dog off leash, fire at will

Gallery / Survival Map Sample
« on: January 09, 2014, 05:51:43 PM »
So about a week or two ago I was playing on Sord's Zombie Survival server, the usual deal for me (riding around on motorcycle with full gear) and it occurred to me after the 7th time driving around the main land: it's really boring and kinda bland. If for some weird reason, the minigame just didn't work for a good hour or more... How many people do you think would stay? Because honestly, it's not really worth it. A lot of the buildings are focused on brick efficiency, and at 81,960 bricks (as of 6:24pm EST time, 1/9/14) I'd say they've done a pretty solid job.
Could it be better?
Maybe.
But that's not the purpose of this topic.

While I was driving around in circles, it occurred to me that my love for the server caused me to want to create a player made map. I asked an admin if they would be willing to consider a map if I made one, and was referred to Sord (who was, at the time, afk). Long story short, they're not interested currently, but maybe in the future they will consider.

So with that information, I set to work with a couple friends designing a small sample of some terrain I had in mind. It's fairly simple, and we've left trees/crates out strictly so it wouldn't interfere with the bricks that Sord uses.

Cave (no shaders)

Cave (max shaders)

Max shaders (angled shot)

Max shaders

No shaders

Cave entrance (max shaders)

As you can see, the terrain is very steep in some areas, and just a large slope in others. This is where I intend to leave the terrain until either Sord expresses interest, or someone else does (or someone asks for the save.) The ideas that I've discussed with friends of mine in building this small build (roughly 900 bricks) are as follows:
- replace ocean with a huge lake
- use zonebricks to quarantine off parts of the map so it seems endless
- change the environmental settings to a shorter than normal sight distance (mountains, foggy, but bright light)
- the farther down you go, the swampier it gets. Higher you go, more mountainous it gets
- planned civilization: cabins, camps, a summer camp (would include lots of medical goods / simple weapons like bolt action rifles galore, blunt melee and knives), 3-4 towns, no cities, a major airforce base within a canyon area, three military outposts forming a triangle around the base
- include small caves (like the one in the images) as well as a series of tunnels and networks of caves/old mine shafts (possible reason for explosives?)
- possibility of stronger zombies/mutants/undead within caves/at night time
There are a few other ideas we had but I'm not gonna deal a full hand quite just yet.

As you can also see, we re-did the fire pits that Sord has (he probably doesn't have the bricks needed to be able to use them though.)
All bricks fit within a 16x16 cube so it fits within a heat cube

Anyways, it's really only a teaser at best, not a lot of content and I'm not gonna continue unless someone within Sord's team reaches out to me. Feel free to rate, but I would much rather prefer any recommendations/suggestions for how to (possibly) improve terrain.

DISCLAIMER
I'm not creating my own zombie survival game or anything based off of Sord's server. I wish to be able to give Sord a map he can use someday when the time comes to replace his current one. If someone would LIKE to use what I've started, I can give out the download link, but until that day, it will remain within my BL/saves folder.

General Discussion / Mini Empires: Seperating the Kings From the Peasants
« on: January 03, 2014, 09:24:26 PM »

!CAUTION!
This thread is about mini empires! If you are easily offended, don't like being told you're wrong, don't like to roleplay, don't like me, or you partake in jumping on bandwagons (ex. "mini empires sucks because its not even real"), IT IS ADVISED THAT YOU CLOSE THIS BROWSER!
PROCEED AT YOUR OWN RISK

MINI EMPIRES

Quick terms for those of you unfamiliar with Mini Empires:

RP - Role Play. A role-playing game is a game in which the participants assume the roles of characters and collaboratively create stories. Participants determine the actions of their characters based on their characterisation, and the actions succeed or fail according to a formal system of rules and guidelines. Within the rules, they may improvise freely; their choices shape the direction and outcome of the games. Definition courtesy of RagnaTheBroedge
Mini Empires - A game mode much like a freebuild, however with a dedicated theme. Players build miniature-scale THINGS, be it a plane, a crane, a house or a lake, it's always "MINI"
MERP - Mini Empires Role Play. It takes the elements of role playing, and includes mini empires that people often 'control' and interact with. Often times, intra-player interactions are highly common, and most times necessary.
GODMOD - Verb. To godmod is to play mini empires unfairly. Ex. Player1 and Player2 are at war, each have 10 units in the fight. Player1 is winning the fight after 30 minutes of role playing, and Player2 gets mad and doesn't wanna lose, so he spawns twenty catapults and claims that he's the victor, because of his catapults. This is godmodding because the catapults were spawned randomly, irrelevantly, and in the heat of battle when a player was on the verge of losing.

^^ Those are common terms ^^
vv These are less common terms vv

Dwarven MERP - larger sized Mini Empires, the focus is still on 'miniaturized' builds, however everything is made slightly larger than a standard mini empires. This is often the most realistic sizing for mini empires, allowing for high detail and fairly large builds. HIGH BRICK COUNT. This is also the type of MERP OP plays
Host Honor Code - Within MERPs, sometimes hosts take up a code of honor. When a player wishes to be stealthy, sneak attack someone or save a secret weapon, they must notify the host for it to be a valid usage, otherwise it is considered godmodding. The honor code comes in place when it comes to this information: The host cannot give away this information, or use it to their benefit.
Dup Plate - A dup plate is where dedicated MERP players store all of their buildings. The term 'dup' comes in when it comes time to use or play with a dup plate; the player loads his/her dup plate, and 'dupes' their creations into the battlefield/map. This allows for well-made/pre-made units and structures, without the hassle of building everything on the spot.

THE ISSUE AT HAND
Lately within Blockland, there have been increasing amounts of low quality MERP and Mini Empires servers springing up, all attempting to bring in large groups of players, and only lasting for about a day at most.

Here are the problems I've found with this:
• It is a waste of time for everyone. MERPs are much like a book; they require a beginning, a middle and an end. Writing only the beginning of a book leaves a feeling of incompleteness (in most cases) and is a bad feeling to have. When you create a race of sentient beings, and you give them homes and creatures and weapons, and you defend their land against attackers and war, you grow fond of your creation. You create an emotional attachment. Much like how in a book you grow emotionally attached to a character. Except for you, it's an entire mini-country.
• just as evil begets evil and good begets good, building poorly begets building poorly and vice versa. Many hosts put little effort into their servers, mostly with the intent to get involved in MERPs for the first time, and end up catching roughly 10-20 dedicated MERP players. For experienced MERP players, this is like opening up a box of chocolates, to find a big, ripe turd. For inexperienced players, they see this and believe "Oh, this is normal, I should build this way, as this is acceptable." I got news for you; it's not.
• We talk about you. Just like all the furries know eachother in and out of their thread, the MERP players know eachother, and we talk. So when a new player hosts a server, we all check it out, and 80% of the time we leave and laugh about you behind your back about how bad the server was. Want to avoid this? The solution is coming...
• GET EXPERIENCE BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO HOST! This is difficult in some scenarios, I understand. On servers like Gentoo's Mini Empires, he requires players to be knowledgeable of MERPs and fairly familiar with the building style. On other servers, players are much more willing to show new players the ropes of roleplay and how to build. Art is all about developing your own style, but you can't expect to paint a portrait before you can hold the brush.
• They last for 1-2 days, then they quit. We WANT people to join the MERP community! servers full of exotic and attractive empires are fun! Wars with 6 people and tanks and turrets and bombs are EXCITING! And you can be a part of that! But we CANNOT do this if we have seven servers that host every day, and only one or two of them have legitimate builds, and then one at best has some good role-play functionality.

Because I can't address these points any further without actually discussing it between members of the community, I would like to reflect my thoughts on what I most commonly find on other MERP servers in terms of builds. This part* is difficult to do sadly, but I'll do the best I can.

!!DISCLAIMER!!
Not everyone is perfect. Not everyone can paint a picasso. Not everyone can figure out how to event a brick to explode. I know. Everyone has their varying degrees of skill. What ISN'T okay is carelessness, or bigotry in the face of suggestions and improvements.

GOOD SCI-FI TANK                                                                                  BAD SCI-FI TANK
The tank on the left is much more realistic than the tank on the right for a variety of reasons, the main one being scale: The tank on the right can hardly fit ONE person inside, and it would be cramped. The tank on the left has room for your standard tank crew of 3-4, the turret is a seperate unit from the body of the tank, and overall the tank has room for electronics, munitions, engines, etc etc. The tank on the right is a cardboard box with a peashooter for a gun.

GOOD SCI-FI PLANE                                                                                  BAD SCI-FI PLANE
The plane on the left is fairly large and capable of carrying multiple units/light vehicles, has suitable emitters, a smooth and attractive roosterpit, some form of wings/aerial propulsion, etc. The plane on the right is a twig with wings and some flaming engines. Seriously. Stop with the fire emitters. Planes don't emit fire from their engines. Not even jets do that. It's basically fuel leaving a showerhead and then being lit on fire, then re-pressurized with compressed air that pushes the plane. The wings and overall proportion are that of a glider at best. These are too damn common. STOP.

GOOD COLONIAL HOME                                                                                  BAD COLONIAL HOME
The home on the left ACTUALLY FITS A FAMILY. The home on the right is a TOOL SHED. Look at the size of a single unit. If one person takes up a 1x1x2F area, your 2x2x1 'house' cannot comfortably fit 12 people. That's complete bullstuff and you're overcrowding. The home on the left comfortably fits 4-7, and includes other details like a chimney, door, lights/windows and a second floor. Also: VARY YOUR BUILDINGS. Quit duping around the same damn house 100 times!

GOOD MEDIEVAL WALL                                                                                  BAD MEDIEVAL WALL
The wall on the left can actually mount soldiers. It has parapets so soldiers can duck-down to avoid line of fire. It is made of wood and has support beams bellow the tower. The walls are not freakishly large or tall. The wall on the RIGHT... I'm not even going to bother you guys should get the picture by now.

literal side note:
Yes I am still working on CityMod's build, however I like to build and play with my mini empires now and again, if you have any problems with this please message me your complaints and we can sort out a time for you to build an entire city for Vaux and Bran in your free time to meet the expectations of an estimated 200-2000+ players

Off Topic / Old times argument: quantity or quality?
« on: January 02, 2014, 08:37:59 PM »
speed or damage?
SMG or Sniper?
Dual swords or 2-Hand sword?
Rogue or knight?
Wizard or necromancer?

these are often some of the most debated topics amongst MLG and regular gamers alike. Which is best? What instances are best for each? Is it better to be accurate and deal more damage, or be less accurate with an even higher damage rate
this is one of the few times I'm not going to start the topic off, strictly because I'm interested in what others have to say.
Why do you usually prefer being a rogue?
What's so great about the P90 that obliterates the M14?
Why is a necromancer an all around better pick than a wizard (most games I've played, necro is tough and slow, wizard was weaker but fast)
Why should I want a medium tank rather than a tank destroyer

!!Things to keep in mind!!
- not everything is perfect for every scenario. A shotgun is not a sniper rifle, and a knight isn't the best for trying to stealthily kill a target.
- keep it game related. Try not to get Butthurt about others opinions, and try not to explain the quantum physics of a bullet's trajectory which thereby makes your choice of firearm meaningless because either way you die. Keep it simple.
- none of you are MLG don't even try
- explain your reasoning. If someone questions it, form a rebut.
- discuss, learn, GROW
- I'm gonna say this one more time: high DMG/low speed is NOT always the best choice, not is high speed/low DMG. This is simply a discussion about MOST cases and why you think so.

This is a fairly iffy topic and I do realize each classification has it's role. An assassin is better at 1v1 than a knight, but a knight will handle a group of grunts better. A tank destroyer will one shot a medium tank, but a good medium tank might be fast enough and smart enough to eliminate 4 light tanks.

Go forth my children, discuss and share your knowledge
